low budget Spanish rock'n'roll black comedy horror flick, 21 September 2008
Author: TheatreX from Louisville, KY
This is a rather strange film, about a rock star (called Belcebu) that has sold his soul to the devil, but that storyline pretty much takes a backseat for a good part of the film because it focuses on Mani, a junkie who went to jail for holding up a pharmacy. Mani has now been let out of jail, and she returns to the only profession at which she could earn money, which is prostitution.
Now, once upon a time, Mani & Belcebu were an item, but something happened & they parted ways. Maybe the devil worship thing? Who knows. Mani is also searching for her sister, who was last seen hanging out with these degenerates. Belcebu is also somewhat despised in general, since his song have supposedly driven plenty of young folks to suicide. So much for repeat customers for their albums, I guess.
We also have a young man named Angel, who is a squeaky-clean cameraman who has gotten a job working for some pornographers at a company owned by Belcebu. He's also Mani's neighbor. Despite his squeaky-cleanness, he's beginning to like his job. Perhaps a bit too much.
There's plenty of hooking, plenty of drug abuse and just plain despair, culminating in an insanely bizarre party at which there is human sacrifice, and widespread mayhem. Chick-on-a-stick, anyone? Ick.
For the low budget, this isn't bad, but it has its faults, number one being the sound, which is tinny and seems to echo...don't know if that's how it was made or if that's courtesy of Troma's release. This does have a rather complicated plot, for a horror movie, but there's also some bizarre black comedy thrown in here & there. And this was made for TV? (That is, according to IMDb.) Yeow! A good addition to my collection of those 80's devil-worshiping metal band movies, of which I have a few. But definitely not for a very wide audience. 6 out of 10.
nice attempt to make a roughie, 15 September 2009

Not that much on the net about the director Sergio Biasco. I mean, were can you find his movies. Yes, Belcebu is easy to get but he made other ones. For example, Burrp, this was one of his first gore attempts. The story line is as usual, people get intoxicated and becomes zombies. The army comes in to kill the zombies. It's a slow movie with some gory parts. Especially the part were they remove a guy his "belongings". It's a short movie but it fails to keep you attracted but due that it is one of his first attempts I give it a 4. Further on I watched Mas Carnaza. That one is already much better especially the effects, there is more gore in it and he starts to put some nudity in it. It's more a slasher with gory elements. But still it fails somewhere to keep you avoiding to reach for the fast forward. Give it a 3. On the other hand he also made an arty farty movie Lilio, also a short movie. This one is the best one, due the effects used while editing. Both movies contains a lot of nudity, male female. His full length, Bel Cebu or Belcebu is his best known feature. Here he tried to make a roughie but fails due the fake XXX scene's. Were roughies used the real stuff it's clear that this is the weakness of the movie. There's a lot of nudity and so called XXX scene's and some gore but again, it all happens a few moments in the movie, the last 10 minutes contains the gory stuff. I can't tell were the lack of interest lays but somehow there's a bit too much blah blah instead of action. But still, it's better then some overrated German splatters.
Its a mess...but its entertaining., 1 July 2009

Belcebu is a low budget movie from Spain acquired by the Troma Team Video. It have lots of Troma elements (nuduty, bizarre sex, blood, black comedy). The plot here is very difficult to follow, the main problem is that there isn't a main character and the story is focused in three or four sub-plots. A shy porno movies camera operator, some junkie hookers, a satanic heavy-metal singer... Well, the plot is a mess but at the end we have a great orgy of sex and blood that makes this movie worth. Its low budget but it manages to have some really good fx (blood, make up and some car stunts. Ibdb list this movie as "made for TV", i don't think this is a TV movie, it is too hardcore for television. The only chance is that its a made for a Porno channel movie, but this isn't that hardcore. If you like low budget, no brainier and full of sex movies, watch it. 6/10
