Is Aarti Chhabria of Interest to the Nia?

18 November 2009 7:33 PM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Bollywood actress Aarti Chhabria, recently seen in Death At A Funeral and Toss, has denied having dated alleged American 26/11 terrorist David Headley after having been introduced to him by Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul. David is currently being held and questioned by America's FBI. "I stay a few blocks away from Shyam Nivas but I have never met this man Headley," Aarti says, "I didn't even known that Rahul Bhatt was working out in the same gymnasium with the man."

That's fairly categorical but a source from India's National Intelligence Agency (Nia) suggests that the two met at a party and were frequently seen about town together as well as both being members of the same gym. Although no one is suggesting that Aarti has done anything wrong, Union Home Secretary Gk Pillai has suggested she - and possibly other actors - will be questioned by the Nia and Crime »

Daddy Cool Movie Review

29 August 2009 12:42 AM, PDT | GoBollywood | See recent GoBollywood news »

Cast: Suniel Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani, Aarti Chabria, Aashish Chaudhary, Kim Sharma, Sophie Choudhary, Rajpal Yadav, Tulip Joshi, Javed Jaffrey, Prem Chopra; Director: K. Murli Mohan Rao; Rating: 0.5 out of 5.

Director K Murali Mohan Rao’s Daddy Cool is a misguided copy paste job of Frank Oz’s incredibly funny ‘Death at a Funeral’, if you’ve seen the original avoid the remake, and if you haven’t, avoid it like plague.

An ex-vj, popular model, singer and also an actor, Sophie Chaudhary would next be seen as a 'hottie in red' in this Friday's release Daddy Cool. So far she has been seen in supporting roles in films like AA Dekhen Zara, Shaadi No. 1 and Pyaar Ke Side Effects. In this remake of Death At A Funeral though, Sophie would be pretty much seen as a leading lady who promises to bring in 'fun' and 'confusion' to the plot of this situational comedy. 27 August 2009 3:46 AM, PDT | RealBollywood.com | See recent RealBollywood news »

In his new film Daddy Cool Sunil Shetty had to deliver a long speech in memory of his dead character’s father.

Sunil for the first time dug into his own emotions and thought of his own father. “It was a rousing moment for me. I forgot I was acting a part. I became my own father’s son while speaking of my character’s father.”

Though Daddy Cool is an official remake of Frank Oz’s 2007 comedy Death At A Funeral, Sunil Shetty who plays the role of the elder son at his father’s funeral (played by Matthew MacFeyden in the original) says the emotions have been completely changed. »

Labute to direct art-based thriller

19 August 2009 12:20 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Neil Labute has been announced as the writer/director of an adaptation of author Chris Willeford’s Burnt Orange Heresy, a crime novel combining the world of art with the world of, well, crime. Think The Thomas Crown Affair, but on Palm Beach and you’re probably not that close. We’re reliably informed that the plot will centre on a shady art critic (the brilliantly named Jacques Figueras) desperate to get an interview with a reclusive but distinguished painter. Believe us when we say that hunting down publicity-shy interviewees isn’t actually that exciting – but with the novel promising Mr Figeuras carrying out ‘blackmail, burglary, fencing and assassination‘ to get what he wants, may be there is film potential in the seedy underbelly of Floridian art criticism after all. Both big Willeford fans, William Horberg (Kite Runner) will be producing alongside Labute, working together again after their Chris Rock »

Charlize Theron Is Florence of Arabia

29 July 2009 1:01 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Charlize Theron is developing a film version of Christopher Buckley's Florence of Arabia, a comic satire about the Middle East. That may sound like a contradiction in terms, and certainly we suspect that this one could be controversial, but it does have potential. The story concerns Florence Farfaletti, Deputy to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near East Affairs in the Us State Department. A friend of hers who is married to an Arabian prince (of the fiction state of Wasabia) is executed on flimsy, sexist charges, and Florence conceives a plan to tackle women's rights in the Middle East - or at least the fictional Wasabia.Based in the neighbouring, and more liberal, state of Matar, she and a crack team that includes a hit man, a PR guy and a gay Foreign Service officer try to shake things up via the medium of television.Theron is developing the »

Peter Dinklage Joins Death At A Funeral Remake

23 March 2009 10:06 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When we reported the cast list a few weeks ago for Chris Rock's planned remake of the British farce Death at a Funeral, I wondered who would be taking over the role that Peter Dinklage memorably, hilariously played in the first film. Based on the cast list I thought it might be James Marsden, but Production Weekly seems to have told us who will be taking over for Dinklage: Peter Dinklage. The actor's name was added to the cast list in the most recent issue, and if they've got it right, that means they agree that no one can top Dinklage's performance in the previous film. The only American character in the film, Dinklage's role was the man who showed up at the funeral threatening to reveal a secret about the dearly departed father and throwing the entire funeral into turmoil. Well, the whole thing was crazy to begin with, »

Chris Rock Picks Cast For Death At A Funeral

9 March 2009 8:03 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It's hard to top the cast of the original British farce Death at a Funeral, which wasn't particularly star-studded, but was absolutely hilarious. Chris Rock must have known this when he decided to remake the film with an African-American cast, so he's signed on about as many promising names as you can get. Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan will be the headlining stars with Rock, and Danny Glover, Regina Hall, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, Loretta Devine and Ron Glass will round out the cast. The THR announcement doesn't say who's playing who, but does suggest that the Neil Labute-directed version will keep the same plot as the original. The British film, directed by Frank Oz, centered around a British family gathering to bury their stuffy old father, only to discover that one of the guests is their father's ex-gay-lover, threatening blackmail. Given that Marsden is the only »

Chris Rock Up For Death Of A Funeral

8 March 2009 10:48 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, and Tracy Morgan have signed on to star in the American remake of Death At A Funeral. Yes, that Death At A Funeral. The British black comedy directed by Frank Oz that came out not even two years ago.It was charming enough, and good enough to garner a three-star Empire review, but tanked in the States, with audiences unmoved by the prospect of a dark farce starring Matthew Macfadyen, his missus Keely Hawes, Alan Tudyk and Daisy Donovan. There should be no fears about the remake suffering the same fate – although Rock has never really had a massive solo hit as a movie star (he took supporting roles in the likes of Lethal Weapon 4 and The Longest Yard), he’s still a huge attraction. Morgan, so wonderful as batshit insane superstar Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock, is making a concerted effort to break into the »

Martin Lawrence joins Death At A Funeral

Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan have joined the cast of comedy remake Death At A Funeral, which Neil Labute is directing. Taking its plot from Frank Oz’s 2007 British-set comedy, the film will relocate to the States for the tale of a family gathering for a patriarch’s send-off, only for old tensions and new blackmail to bubble to the surface. A man gatecrashes the wake, claiming to be the deceased’s gay lover. We’re not sure who will be replacing Peter Dinklage in that role, but the cast has come together... .

Neil Labute remaking Death At A Funeral

Filmmaker Neil Labute has grabbed a two-film deal with Sony’s Screen Gems arm, with his first project planned as a remake of Death At A Funeral, including Chris Rock as the star. The original Death, which Frank Oz directed in 2007 (which must make this one of the quickest remakes ever), featured the likes of Alan Tudyk, Matthew MacFadyen and Peter Dinklage in a tale of family secrets and comic misunderstandings. Rock co-wrote and will star in the new, Americanised version, which deals with similar family dysfunction and old... .
