Unseen Prequels, More Pixar Costumes And M.I.A. In Today's Twitter-Wood

3 November 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Simon Pegg came a little late to the "Unseen Prequels" meme that's been bouncing around Twitter this week, but I stuck his "Star Wars" proposal along with Jon Favreau's submission up at the top of the list today just the same.

Also discovering a trend late today appears to be "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli, who's been exploring new Bluetooth headset technology. He and his "Eclipse" director David Slade show up in the Twitter-Wood report today, as does Facinelli's co-star Alex Meraz. Check out their posts after the jump, along with some more Pixar costumes from Lee Unkrich, and an M.I.A. performance caught by Nicky Hilton during the Jimmy Choo shoe debut for H&M. It all happened in Twitter-Wood, and it's in the report for November 3, 2009.

Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead (DVD Review)

21 October 2009 9:39 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Next time you get a hankerin’ for nasty cannibal chaos, pop in Wrong Turn 2: Dead End. When you’re in the mood to watch a group of chained convicts argue and fight in the woods for the better part of 90 minutes, check out Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead (just out on DVD and Blu-ray from Fox). A very frustrating flick, this third installment of the popular series trades Turn 2’s madcap freakishness for machismo gibberish.

Wrong Turn 3 focuses on a stranded busload of jailbirds going up against “Three Finger” (Borislav Iliev), the only remaining mutant from the franchise’s warped hillbilly family.* What could’ve been a muscular, all-out war of Bad vs. Bad winds up being not much more than a gaggle of cookie-cutter characters walking through the forest, bitching and threatening each other in scene after scene. When the gore gags come, they’re typically accompanied …

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen I know I shouldn't be surprised the Blu-ray, 2-disc DVD and single-disc DVD are the numbers 1, 2 and 3 best-sellers at Amazon this week, but for some reason I would have thought all the negative talk about this film surrounding its release would have discouraged folks to throw to down their hard-earned cash to endure this pummeling one more time. However, I can say it is nice to see prices on Blu-rays are dropping slightly, so much to the point the Blu-ray edition of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is actually $3 less than the 2-disc DVD, at only $19.99. That's all I really have to say about this one. Monsoon Wedding (Criterion Collection) I just reviewed the Blu-ray edition of this one (read that here) and was really impressed with the entire package, which not only includes Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, …

Exclusive: Joe Lynch and his 'Knights of Badassdom'

16 October 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Phobia Friday: Metathesiophobia- Fear of changes. We caught up with Wrong Turn 2 Director Joe Lynch the other night in La at the Reaper Awards and just had to ask him about his next - curiously titled - project, The Knights of Badassdom. FEARnet: What can you tell us about The Knights of Badassdom? Joe Lynch: The Knights of Badassdom...we are casting right now, we're designing the creatures right now with…I can't say exactly who yet but they are one of the biggest effects companies in the world and I am humbled and honored that they would be doing it.  It's a dream come true.  So between casting and crewing up and making some of the most killer creature effects I've ever seen …

Captain Lou Albano Remembered, Simon Pegg Reads 'Twilight' And More Halloween Costumes In Today's Twitter-Wood

14 October 2009 4:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Celebrities retweeting webcam pics of fans dressed as them may officially be a trend now, following yesterday's Fred Durst incident. Now Rainn Wilson has received a pic from a Dwight super-fan, and his shock defies language.

Tweets trickles in from all over Twitter-Wood throughout the rest of the day to remember wrestler and actor Captain Lou Albano, whom you may remember from pay-per-view events, as well as from "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" where he portrayed Mario. Read those rubber band memorials after jump along with Simon Pegg's reaction to the "Twilight" books, Shaquille O'Neal's mama joke to Ashton Kutcher and BooBoo Stewart's plans for Halloween. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for October 14, 2009.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (Blu-ray Review)

11 October 2009 9:36 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Dare I say it? I mean thousands of horror fans everywhere may launch back it me. I’m going to risk it and say it- I think Wrong Turn 2 is way better than the first Wrong Turn. Yes, I know….sexy Eliza Dushku and what-not. But really, I love Wrong Turn 2. Let me take a step back even further and say that I just love the whole cannibalistic-mutant genre in general. Be it The Hills Have Eyes, Raw Meat, and especially C.H.U.D., I’m a sucker for misshapen heads, bulging eyes, and three toes. So I was very psyched when I received my copy of Wrong Turn 2 on Blu-ray.  Directed by Joe Lynch, it is easy to see his early Troma roots (actor- Terror Firmer) shining through in this quirky feature. I can only hope we soon see more from Lynch. Where as many …

Child’S Play, Wrong Turn, Wrong Turn 2 Blu-ray Reviews

10 October 2009 9:23 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Universal has already issued their horror releases for Halloween, and I’ve already reviewed them, so I’m reviewing half of the 20th Century Fox releases for Halloween. Child’s Play, and Wrong Turns one and two. At least two of these movies are pretty good. My reviews after the jump.

Tom Holland is easy to underrate as he fell off the map. But with this and Fright Night, he’s definitely one of the masters of 1980’s horror. Alas, his follow ups were not as promising or entertaining. But Child’s Play works because it’s a Twilight Zone episode brought to life. There’s not a lot of fucking around, and it sells that the dolls is animated, which is the feat with a show like this. Catherine Hicks stars as Karen Barclay, whose son Andy (Alex Vincent) is a huge fan of Good Guys, a TV show …

DVD Review: Ghost House Underground 4-Pack

7 October 2009 1:55 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I wasn't sure what to make of the stack of Ghost House Underground DVD releases. While I tend to be a fan of B-horror movies, there's a fine line between a bad-good one (something like say Wrong Turn 2) and just a flat-out bad-bad one (like another sequel, the unwatchable Lake Placid 2). The balance between absurdity, nonsense and gore has to be just right, and if it is even just a tiny bit off any chance of enjoyment is thrown out the window as quickly as a bloody severed head.

As for an outright good one? I tend not to hold my breath on that front. Just look at those continuing After Dark Horrorfest releases. I can think of maybe one or two of those (2008's The Broken, 2006's Wicked Little Things) that I can admit to having enjoyed, and as far as Ghost House Underground has been concerned …

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Platinum Edition) I just posted my review of this one (read it here) and I tried to keep it as short as possible all while managing to gush all over it. Seriously, this baby is packed with goodies and the film simply looks spectacular as Walt Disney's first feature length animated film comes to life in high definition. Snow White is 72-years-old and boy does it age well.

I reviewed the two-disc edition (or three-disc if you count the included DVD version of the film), but there are a ton of additional versions to buy including the collector's pack featured in the image to the left and then one that comes with a bunch of stuffed toys. Oh, and if you buy it at Amazon you can enter the promotional code Snowhite and …

Swampy Updates on Boggy Creek and Muckman

23 September 2009 3:46 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

We've been following the progress of two new swamp monster movies in the works, and today we can bring you new news on both. More plot details have emerged on the Boggy Creek non-remake. The first image giving us a good look at swamp thing on the prowl in Brett Piper's Muckman is now available for gawking at. Put on your galoshes; things are about to get swampy.

It seems almost strange that more and more information about this Boggy Creek flick is coming via local newspapers in the areas where the film is shooting rather than Internet horror websites. That truly is the mark of an old school indie film production. Another surefire sign is when you're actually filming in a town named Uncertain.

Last month I reported on news courtesy of a Texarkana newspaper, and this month our Boggy Creek news comes via the Marshall News Messenger. …

[DVD Review] Wrong Turn 2: Dead End

22 September 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

I’d say, like most of today’s slashers, Wrong Turn 2’s biggest fault is that it’s just a hair too long. Fortunately, the length seems justified given the respectable amount of hardcore in director Joe Lynch’s debut. From its opening scene, Lynch lets you know he means business. This is a dirty film that revels in getting under its viewers’ skin and marking its territory. A meaner, more vicious slasher film hasn’t appeared that I’ve seen in a long while. And rarely has one been more fun.

Despite featuring some of the downright nastiest gore effects in slasher history, Wrong Turn 2’s highlights all center around Henry Rollins. Rollins’ performance is somewhere between Rambo from First Blood and Rambo from John Rambo, teetering on the edge of complete superhumanism and spouting Bruce Campbell one-liners whenever he dispatches an ass-ugly inbred psycho. And man, …

Blu-Ray Round Up: MGM Releases Wave of Modern Horror Classics

22 September 2009 6:16 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Start planning your Halloween marathon now. Last week, we highlighted the Universal wave of titles that included greats like “Shaun of the Dead” and “Army of Darkness” and we’re back with another wave of modern horror classics, including Oscar winners “Silence of the Lambs” and “Misery”.

The Blu-Ray Round-Up, HollywoodChicago.com’s regular column that highlights synopsis, tech details, and special features for titles that might otherwise fall through your Blu-Ray buying cracks, doesn’t usually play favorites, but every good horror fan should have “Manhunter,” “Silence,” “Child’s Play,” and “Misery” in their collection. Whether or not you need to own the “Wrong Turn” films is something only you can decide.

All five titles were released last week, September 15th, 2009. Both “Child’s Play” and “Misery” are presented in a Bd/DVD combo pack with both HD and standard versions of the film.

Boggy Creek Principal Photography Now Underway

21 September 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Is it a remake or not? That seems to be the question surrounding Boggy Creek , a low budget creature feature by Brian T. Jaynes. Principal photography has commenced on the film which stars Texas Battle ( Wrong Turn 2 ), Melissa Carnell, Stephanie Honore, Damon Lipari and Shavon Kirksey. Early reports stated it was a redo of the '72 The Legend of Boggy Creek by Charles B. Pierce. But Jaynes says it's only similar in themes. "It's a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas," he tells the Marshall News Messenger from the set in Uncertain, Texas. "They end up crossing paths with an ancient evil creature that lives in the swamp." He adds that this is his own version of Sasquatch that's …

Albino Farm (DVD Review)

17 September 2009 10:19 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

I should probably hate Albino Farm; the Mti Home Video release has all the ingredients of irritatingly shallow horror. Yet as hard as I try to push it away, I have to embrace it. I should make a disclaimer before we continue: I have a perhaps irrational enthusiasm for the foolish-travelers-meet-awesome-looking-mutants-who-eat-people subgenre. From The Hills Have Eyes to Wrong Turn 2…I love ’em all. When I learned I was being assigned a film called Albino Farm, my eyes lit up with childlike wonder.

I was disappointed. Yet I was not entirely let down.

Joe Anderson and Sean McEwen wrote/directed/produced this tragic tale of four stereotypically ignorant college kids with distinct horror personality types. Stacey (Australian star Tammin Sursok) is the kind-hearted All-American girl. Melody (Alicia Lagano) is the foul-mouthed tough chick; her apparent boyfriend Brian (Nick Richey) is the obnoxious frat-boy jerk. Sanjay (Sunkrish Bala) is the …

Joe Lynch's Latest Episode of Body Count

17 September 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

G4's just posted their latest offering of Body Count , a genre based web series hosted by Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch. In this episode, "Classic Horror Movies for the End Of Summer", Lynch profiles and recommends three of his favorite goriffic horror flicks - Roy Frumkes and Jim Muro's infamous Street Trash , the legendary Hong Kong shocker Ebola Syndrome (Yi boh lai beng duk) and Chris Sivertson's The Lost adapted from the Jack Ketchum novel. Ok, that last one isn't really "goriffic", but it is disturbing and highly recommended, even by this writer. Check out the episode below: Video Game - E3 2009 - Attack of the Show …
