Belgium's Finest....

Oh yes we saw a lot of interesting Belgian films. If we think of films like: The Child (Dardennes), Man Bites Dog (Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel), Calvaire (Fabrice Du Welz) But everybody nows that all these fabulous films were made in the French speaking part of Belgium. Up until now the tendency in Flemisch part of Belgium was to make dull and navel-gazing films without international appeal. But this film EX-DRUMMER an adaption of a Herman Brusselmans novel(one of the most popular flemisch writers) is a shot of pure adrenaline in the veins of every filmlover. Could this dark and surreal rock&roll flick, that tells us the story of a loser rockband looking for a drummer, be the antidote needed in flemish film culture? I don't know, but it sure is a step in the right direction!
