  • Continuity: When Ed and Carter are discussing marriage in the hospital, Carter puts on his glasses. When the camera switches, his glasses are off and in his hand. When the camera switches back his glasses are on.

  • Continuity: Everytime the list is shown it's a new one. One can see differences in the line drawn in previous scenes. One of the most obvious is when SKYDIVING is stroked out with two lines but in the following scenes the list is shown there's only one line. The three lines over "Get back in touch" are at different places each time the list is shown also proving there are different lists.

  • Continuity: In the race track scene, the body damage on the cars after the collisions is not consistent.

  • Continuity: In the race track scene, Carter always looks to his right when he talks to Ed who is in the yellow car to his right. When Carter races away towards the end of this scene, their cars are on the wrong side. Ed's yellow car is to the left of Carter's red car.

  • Continuity: When Carter is in the bubble bath, the bubbles switch from being under his bandage to covering them up every other time the camera is on him.

  • Continuity: When Ed and Carter are in the restaurant in France, Carter's arm is alternately up or down while they are having their dinner conversation.

  • Continuity: When Carter is in the bubble bath watching Jeopardy, the number of categories that are available for play change. Mainly the middle two columns go from being partially played to having never been selected

  • Continuity: When Edward and Carter are arguing in front of Edward's daughter's home, the back of Edward's shirt collar changes back and forth from being inside or outside his jacket collar.

  • Continuity: At several scenes in the hospital ward, the monitoring-equipment shows exactly the same status on both men; blood-pressure, pulse, blood/oxygen level. And they don't change either, same pulse at both, same blood-pressure at both and so on constantly.

  • Continuity: When Ed and Carter are discussing the existence of God while flying over the North Pole, Ed's glasses disappear as it cuts from an over the shoulder shot to a frontal close up.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): On the top of the pyramid, Carter says that Egypt is the place where the only dog to be struck by lightning occurred, but this is wrong. The actual trivia fact is that Egypt was the location of the only dog to be fatally struck by a meteor.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Edward skydives, the image, geography surrounding Sun City, is reversed

  • Errors in geography: While both men are sitting on the top of the Great Pyramid and are facing South a shadow of the second pyramid is seen. Actually a shadow can't be cast in that direction (South East-South) on this latitude. Even if it could the shadow would be much longer.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: In the scene where Cole angrily tears up the list. Later, in the hospital, Carter dramatically takes out the intact list, crosses out "Laugh until I cry," and then hands the list to Cole asking him to finish the list. However, the list is also quite clearly taped back together, but it doesn't look like it have been teared into pieces like what Cole did back at her daughter's lawn.

  • Revealing mistakes: When leaving the hospital, Jack Nicholson's character has normal length hair. However, according to the dialogue his head was shaven just 3 weeks earlier, ahead of his surgery.

  • Continuity: When the doctor finishes his first post surgery follow up with Cole, he proceeds to raise the side rail by Cole's right arm. The next scene reveals the side rail as being down, while the next scene after that shows the rail as up.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: At the beginning of the conversation in the restaurant in France about caviar, Carter's mouth appears to be eating caviar instead of saying the words he is speaking before cutting to the close up scene where the conversation is continued normally.

  • Continuity: The very first thing on Carter's list is "see something majestic." At dinner, above "see something majestic" he writes "get back in touch." When Edward crosses that off, his pen is in the middle of the paper, and not at the top where "get back in touch" is written.

  • Plot holes: After the restaurant scene in France, Carter goes to take a bath and Thomas reads the revised itinerary aloud. He says the next stop is Cairo, and then Tanzania, however in the first scene outside of France they are in sub-Saharan Africa watching animals and singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." The next place they visit is the Pyramids, which of course is in Egypt. This not only means the itinerary was wrong, but it means they had to fly well south of Egypt, then go back there, and afterwards double back on their way to India.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The Mustang referred to as a "350" by Carter is not an indication of engine size. He was referring to a Shelby GT350, actually equipped with a 289 cid engine.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: While motorbiking across the Great Wall, obvious body double for Jack Nicholson.

  • Factual errors: SPOILER: It is in fact impossible to have a conversation while skydiving just like they did on the movie. Not even if shouted words could be understood. (This was proved by Mythbusters.)

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: SPOILER: In the film's final scene, Thomas has made it to the mountaintop, and although it's supposed to be extremely cold, and even though he's bundled up to the hilt, there's not the slightest hint of steam emanating from his mouth or nose when he breathes. However, this is because you need air humidity to be able to see your breath, and the Himalayas are so cold that there is no moisture in the air. Both in the movie and real life, you do not have visible breath on top of the Himalayas.
