Continuity: In The Pink Panther (2006), the diamond was set in a ring. In this film, it is just the gem.
Plot holes: In the first film, Beyonce's character, Xania, was allowed to keep the Pink Panther diamond due to some random possession law. In this film, the diamond is on display at a Paris museum without any acknowledgment of Xania donating it.
Crew or equipment visible: Towards the end when they celebrate the closing of the case, during the conversation between the disgraced Clouseau and Sonia, a crew member is visible in the back of Ashwarya Rai's car. The male crew member is visible only through his reflection off the rear-view mirror.
Revealing mistakes: In the shot where Clouseau jumps from the globe to the chandelier, the face of Steve Martin's stunt double is clearly visible.
Miscellaneous: As with the Pink Panther, The (2006), the "based on characters created by" credit does not list William Peter Blatty, who created Inspector Dreyfus for A Shot in the Dark (1964).
Revealing mistakes: Jacques Clouseau is supposed to be a Police inspector, yet his uniform is reminiscent of those worn by the Gendarmerie until the early 1990s. Moreover, the two chevrons on his sleeves would make him a simple gendarme, i.e a non-commissioned officer, a rank nowhere nearly as high as an inspector.
Continuity: As Clouseau and Ponton are loading the car to drive to the Airport they are loading a new model Smart Car. This then changes to an old model Smart Car as they are driving to the Airport (rear lights are different). This then changes again to the new style smart car as they arrive at the Airport.
Continuity: During the finale, when the dumbwaiter opens, one of the plates has a large and decorative napkin on it. When Clouseau jumps into the dumbwaiter, the napkin is gone and a bun is on the plate. When it goes up and he gets out of the dumbwaiter, the napkin that was on the plate earlier can be seen falling out. Lastly, Clouseau's suit is virtually clean of any food and beverage items.
Continuity: In the first The Pink Panther (2006), Jean Reno's character didn't have that thick of a French accent, or even one at all - it was more of a British accent. In this film, he now has a very thick French accent. Likewise, Dreyfus' accent (after being re-cast with John Cleese) has a strong, English brogue.
Continuity: At the beginning of the movie, three items are stolen: the Magna Carta, the Shroud of Turin and the Imperial Sword. Later items stolen were the Pink Panther diamond and the Pope's ring. However near end of the movie, only three items were recovered and the characters spoke of getting three out of the four objects back.
Plot holes: Inspector Jacques Clouseau states that he does not want to leave France because he is afraid that the Pink Panther Diamond will get stolen the second he leaves, yet three months before the plot of the movie begins he burns down a restaurant in Rome.
Plot holes: Being one of the strongest materials on Earth, diamonds cannot be "grinded" or destroyed by a bullet. The suicide note mentions the diamond being destroyed (and nobody finds it odd) and when the fake diamond is shot and pulverized nobody realizes it had to be a fake.
Continuity: Clouseau goes to the airport to travel to meet up with the "Dream Team" in Kyoto, Japan. But when he heads back to the museum, after knowing about the pink panther's theft, the "Dream Team" are somehow already there.
