- John Cleese takes over the role of Dreyfus from Kevin Kline. Cleese and Kline appeared together in Silverado (1985), A Fish Called Wanda (1988) (for which Kline won his Oscar), and Fierce Creatures (1997).
- The Pink Panther is actually the name of a diamond that is stolen in The Pink Panther (1963), The Return of the Pink Panther (1975), Trail of the Pink Panther (1982) & The Pink Panther (2006). The diamond has become synonymous with these films, even though there is actually no connection with the other films that use the Pink Panther in the title.
- The very first scene of the movie is the scene between John Cleese and Geoffrey Palmer. They both have appeared in James Bond films. Cleese appeared in The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002) and Palmer appeared in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). The previous movie in the series The Pink Panther (2006) spoofed the character of James Bond
- Shawn Levy, director of the previous film, chose not to helm this entry, serving instead as executive producer.
- Despite a rather extensive publicity campaign, a predominantly French setting, its hero being a French detective and the presence of one of France's most popular actors (Jean Reno) in the cast, the film was a huge commercial failure in France, lasting merely one week in most major multiplexes.
- Apart from Jean Reno, two other famous French people can be seen in the film. Indeed, actress Judith Godrèche has a small cameo and Milliken is played by Johnny Hallyday, an extremely popular pop/rock singer and sometime actor.
- Steve Martin immediately accepted to reprise his role for this sequel because of his love of the character and the opportunity to do very physical, burlesque comedy.
- The filmmakers chose to show a postcard version of Paris in the movie, inspired by such films as Madeline (1998), Le ballon rouge (1956), Jacques Tati's films and Ratatouille (2007). As such the film takes place in modern, but slightly anachronistic Paris.
- The Boston area doubled for Paris in some scenes.
- Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel were hired to perform an uncredited rewrite/polish of the script in January 2007.
- Jean Reno chose to reprise his role due to the good experience he had working on the previous film, his friendship with Steve Martin, his joy at working with Alfred Molina again after The Da Vinci Code (2006) and his pleasure at working between Paris and Boston.
- Aishwarya Rai quickly accepted the part of Sonia Solandres as she grew up watching the original films and Steve Martin's previous films and she knew families would enjoy viewing it and have a good laugh, especially her husband Abhishek Bachchan's niece and nephew.
- There wasn't a lot of improvisation in the film as it didn't suit this type of comedy well. Improvisation was instead mostly done during rehearsals.
- This is the first Pink Panther sequel to have a number in it's title, after The Return of the Pink Panther (1975), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), Trail of the Pink Panther (1982), Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) and Son of the Pink Panther (1993).
- Director Harald Zwart puts affects from his hometown in all of his movies. In this movie you can see a flag for the Norwegian soccer team Fredrikstad FK in the rucksack of Pontons sons. It is visible when the sons and Inspector Clouseau are comparing their medals.
- Ponton's 10th wedding anniversary coincides with the last heist pulled off by "The Tornado." In real life, France adopted the Euro and Desmond Llewelyn (007's Agent "Q") died in 1999.
- In this movie, the Pink Panther Diamond is kept at the National Museum in France. In the previous movies, it was kept in the National Museum of the fictional country Lugash.

- SPOILER: Steve Martin decided to have his Inspector Clouseau character marry Nicole at the end of the movie because he claimed that all of his movies that ended with weddings became commercially successful.
- SPOILER: When Clouseau is shot by Sonia, Dreyfuss says that he wished he was the one who shot him. In the previous movies, Dreyfuss (as played by Herbert Lom) was obsessed with killing Clouseau.
