20 Ways to Get Your "Arrested Development" Movie Fix*

5 November 2009 7:09 PM, PST | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

*Until they actually make the movie

Forget Scientology or Heaven's Gate. Today, the biggest cult in our country may very well be the teeming masses anxiously awaiting the return of "Arrested Development." After years of rumors and dashed hopes, it seems the beloved TV show will finally, for real, this time, be reincarnated on the big screen.

But don't break out your Cornballers yet: the film isn't set to hit theaters until 2011. How will you last that long? While you can treasure your DVD collection of all three seasons (or, for that matter, catch re-airs on IFC), you'll probably want to vary things up in the year-plus before we get sweet relief. Off the top of your head, you might know to watch Michael Cera in "Juno," but where can you find Judy Greer in a role as crazy as Kitty Sanchez? Will Arnett as a man as bumbling and self-involved as Gob? »

John Singleton Tackles Comedy Concert Film With Comedian DeRay Davis

4 November 2009 2:56 AM, PST | The Humor Mill | See recent The Humor Mill news »

We have just discovered from our sources that director John Singleton has his next project and its not the A-Team as reports would have lead you at one time to believe- even though they are filming that movie now; but is a comedy concert film.

We discovered that Singleton has decided to film comedian DeRay Davis’ stand-up performance (yet to be titled) and release it nationally, and not as a DVD for the video store but as the first stand up film in years to be released theatrically. As of this writing, rumor has it that the film will be shot next month.

Davis, you may recall, recently featured his comedic performance in Shaq’s Comedy All Stars on Showtime and was in several films such as Imagine That (starring Eddie Murphy), Semi-Pro (starring Will Ferrell) and Code Name: The Cleaner (with Cedric The Entertainer) just to name a few »

The Blu-Ray Review: Land of the Lost

3 November 2009 7:55 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

If you'll pardon the pun, Will Ferrell's movie career has become a decidedly hit or miss proposition. He still churns out successes like 2008's Step Brothers, but he also stars in duds like that same year's Semi-Pro.

Plop 2009's Land of the Lost in the "bomb" category. Given its huge budget and summer blockbuster expectations, Lost definitely disappointed. $49 million isn't total disaster territory, but it's far below the levels achieved by the average summer hit. I like Ferrell, so I hope he rebounds soon. A loose remake of the 1970s Sid and Marty Krofft TV series, Lost introduces us to paleontologist Dr. Rick Marshall (Ferrell). He advocates the existence of time warps and touts them as a solution to energy problems.

His peers view him as a crackpot, but it turns out that Marshall's tachyon amplifier actually works. Down on his luck, Rick doesn't believe in himself of his invention, »

Steve Carell on Par for Rick Reilly Golf Comedy 'Missing Links'

26 October 2009 5:50 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

While I admit that I do still love the curly haired comedic force that is Will Ferrell, his recent foray into nonsensical off-the-wall sports comedies (e.g. Semi-Pro) is beginning to lose its appeal. Thankfully he's moved on and seems to be passing the reins over to Steve Carell, as THR's Risky Biz Blog reports that the actor will star and produce Missing Links, a comedy set in the world of golf about a player angling for a better place to drive his balls. Okay that sounded dirty, but we've all seen 40-Year-Old Virgin so I think we can handle it. Writer Jay Lavender (The Break-Up) adapted the script from a novel by Espn’s Rick Reilly. More specifically, Reilly's novel "tells of a group of bumblers who, after playing for years at a run-down municipal golf course in a working-class Boston neighborhood, concoct a series of schemes that they »

Paul Rust to Star in TV Comedy Series About Working at Wal-mart

21 October 2009 11:12 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

How does this show not exist yet? Oh, sure, there are workplace comedies. But America's big-box and discount chain stores, of which Wal-mart is the rarely-disputed and ready to be deposed king, haven't played home to a sitcom that targets what it's like to actually work for one of the stores day in and day out. Actor Paul Rust (Semi-Pro, I Love You Beth Cooper, and glimpsed in Inglourious Basterds) worked for Wal-mart after college, and now he's sold NBC on a half-hour sitcom based on the experience. The show, which Variety says is as yet untitled, won't take place at an actual Wal-mart, which is unfortunate. Allowing that to happen might show that the company has a sense of humor. Instead it will be set in a 'fictional big-box' store, and hopefully at the end of one of the show's seasons we'll get to see it burn. "This is »

Rumored to be on the top of the list to portray villainous Sinestro in "Green Lantern", Jackie Earle Haley delivered a different story when attending Spike TV's 2009 Scream Awards. On Saturday, October 17, the Rorschach of "Watchmen" confessed to MTV, "I just heard about this, literally."

Commenting more on the rumor, the 48-year-old shared, "I know the guys that are doing it. It's exciting to me. It makes me want to go get the Green Lantern comics and start reading up." While he admitted to have just heard about the speculation, he didn't shoot down the possibility. He said, "I don't know much about it. I'm a comics fan, but I haven't gotten into that one yet. I guess I'd better do my homework."

Will Ferrell

Rush wrote the script, based on a Raymond Carver short story. Ferrell plays a man who loses his job and then gets locked out of the house by his wife. When she throws out all of his belongings, he decides to spend the next four days on the lawn trying to sell them.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce through their Temple Hill Productions company.

Jackie Earle Haley, the Top Contender for 'Green Lantern' Villain

17 October 2009 12:27 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Following confirmation about its production that has been pulled out of Australia, "Green Lantern" is hit with a casting rumor. Ain't It Cool News (AICN) has come up with the story that the lead villain in this adaptation of the DC Comics' superhero may well be portrayed by Jackie Earle Haley.

According to Harry Knowles of AICN, someone "working on the film" claimed that the new Freddy Krueger of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is on top of the actors list considered for the part of Sinestro. The scooper reportedly also spoiled that Superman "will be making a cameo," adding that "all depends upon how... other DC things go."

Sinestro is the former mentor of Hal Jordan and the arch-nemesis of the entire Green Lantern Corps. He was banished from the Corps after using the power of the Green Lantern to instill fear rather than combat it. In the casting call, »

Everything Must Go for Will Ferrell

Another screenplay listed on the 2008 Black List is headed into production. Will Ferrell will topline Everything Must Go, the Dan Rush-penned comedy about a man who, after being kicked from his family home by his wife and finding all of his worldly possessions on the front lawn, starts to sell of everything he owns. Rush will also get to direct the modestly budgeted $10 million dollar production.

"Will is one of the best at making an audience sympathize with a character's ordeal, and the blending and comedy in this script will show a side of him that we haven't really seen before," said Marty Bowen, one of the producers.

Based on a Raymond Carver short story, Everything Must Go could be an opportunity for Ferrell to reprove himself in the eyes of Hollywood. Land of the Lost cost a lot of money to make but proved to be an underperformer »

Screen Rant Invades Fantastic Fest

24 September 2009 12:51 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

[Guest writer (and all around cool dude) Kevin Kelly will be covering Fantastic Fest for us - enjoy!]

Have you ever enjoyed a movie while having dinner and beer… at an actual movie theater? That’s the main claim to fame of Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse. But if that wasn’t enough, they’ve gone above and beyond by creating special programming that caters to the geek in all of us. Things like quote-alongs with The Big Lebowski and Office Space, outfitting an entire audience with Flint Tropics uniforms for Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro, and tailoring their menu to match what’s on-screen. For example, right now you can enjoy root beer extract cookies while watching Mike Judge’s Extract.

How do you top all of that? By creating a film festival made entirely for movie geeks. This year marks their fifth annual Fantastic Fest, which was originally conceived by Drafthouse founder Tim League, among others. It’s an eight day celebration of movies that appeal to the geek in all of us, »

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled 5-0 today that Al Franken won last year’s Senate election, and it didn’t take long for responses to start popping up in the Twitter-Wood feed, including reactions from Larry King and Graham Linehan. Magician and quick-witted thinker Penn Jillette also brought politics into his tweets, pointing out the relevance of his film “The Aristocrats” in a recent Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision.

The conversations weren’t all political though. Rose McGowan showed off a shot a of the new dog she adopted and Demi Moore posted her own puppy shot of Ashton Kutcher rolling around on the set of his new movie “Five Killers.” Meanwhile, “Twilight” actor Peter Facinelli was just innocently trying on a bikini and Russell Brand kept to what he does best, lacing an apology to his neglected Twitter followers with dog-and-leg-humping imagery.
