That depends on your definition of sequel. The events of this film take place alongside the events in Night of the Living Dead (1968) (even though the new film is set in 2008). What's certain is that Diary of the Dead is the fifth film in George Romero's series.

Like The Blair Witch Project (1999), this film is shot entirely on hand-held video cameras; and what we see had been shot by the characters in the film. Some people are calling it Cloverfield with zombies. Others compare it to [Rec] and the PS2 game survival horror game Michigan.

Yes. They are just as slow as they were in Night of the Living Dead (1968) and adhere fully to the Romero rules.

We don't know, but George Romero hopes for a full release. The Weinstein Company gave it a limited release in the US on Feb. 15.

Anyone who dies comes back as a zombie, unless his brain is destroyed. It doesn't matter if the dead person had suffered a gunshot wound, a car accident, a paper cut: anyone who dies with an intact brain will reanimate a short while later. The 'Dead' movies never explain why this is so--although the characters in the movies have their theories.. Theories from fans include: radiation from a crashed satellite, alien bacteria from a crashed satellite, a chemical spill, an airborne virus, and the judgment of God.
