It's a 'Win Win' Situation for Tom McCarthy

12 December 2009 6:25 PM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

The popularity of The Visitor has surely helped secure financing for his next project -- another independent film drama titled "Win Win" which according to Pw, is due to begin filming late February in New York and New Jersey. McCarthy filmed The Station Agent in several parts of the garden state. Look for more details to trickle in next month. - Overture Films were all too happy with the results of writer/director Tom McCarthy's The Visitor. The socially conscious, post 9/11 commentary, lite drama starring Richard Jenkins and Hiam Abbass drew in audiences -- the film remained in theaters for a seven month stretch and accompanying 9 million dollar plus box office take. Pretty darn good for an indie pic. After appearing in Lukas Moodysson's Mammoth, Duplicity, 2012, The Lovely Bones, David Schwimmer's Trust (currently filming), it looks like McCarthy is going to begin to put the emphasis back »

'Let Me In' Adds More Cast Members + A New Promo Poster

3 November 2009 10:40 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

In a press release, Overture Films announced the start of principal photography of Matt Reeves' Let Me In, the American adaptation of last year's acclaimed Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. While we're not usually big on the announcements of the first day of production, this press release also revealed a new promotional poster (check it out after the jump) as well as adding Elias Koteas (Shutter Island), Cara Buono (of HBO's "The Sopranos") and Sasha Barrese (The Hangover) to a cast that already includes Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) and Chloe Moretz (500 Days of Summer). If you're unfamiliar with the Swedish film on which Let Me In is based, it may help to know that both films are based on a novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. The story follows an alienated 12-year-old boy (Smit-McPhee) who befriends a mysterious young newcomer (Moretz »

Elias Koteas, Cara Buono, and Sasha Barrese Join Remake Let Me In; Principal Photography Begins

2 November 2009 8:21 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Principal Photography began today on Matt Reeves’ “Let Me In”, the remake of Tomas Alfredson’s acclaimed film, “Let the Right One In” which was an adaptation of the John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel of the same name.  It’s difficult to find a fan of Alfredson’s film who is excited for this remake since the Swedish landscape is such an integral part of the film’s tone and overarching themes.  Couple that with the tendency of American films to avoid ambiguity and relationships which may make audiences uncomfortable and you can see why the reception of its production is (appropriately) chilly.

But actors Elias Koteas (”Zodiac”), Cara Buono (”The Sopranos”), and Sasha Barrese (”The Hangover”) are giving the film a chance and joining stars Kodi-Smit McPhee (”The Road”), Chloe Moretz (”Kick-Ass”) and Richard Jenkins (”The Visitor”).  Hit the jump for more details.

7 Directors Who Could Handle ‘Dune’

28 October 2009 5:38 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

With the riveting news that Peter Berg is hopping off Dune and with Paramount's search for a new director come the names Neill Blomkamp and Neil Marshall being tossed around. Clearly, Paramount is contractually obligated to hire a director named Neil (which explains why Berg probably left). However, we here at Fsr are never content with the obvious. Instead, we'd like to throw out a few directorial talents we think could turn the new adaptation of Dune and make it something special. Hopefully, a few of the names will surprise, and you should be warned that we haven't consulted the Bene Gesserit with any of these names. So here they are, in no particular order: 7. Martin Campbell The Pitch: Despite not being named Neil, Campbell blew everyone away with Casino Royale. So much so that he nabbed the job directing Green Lantern, and people still don't realize he directed GoldenEye. He's »

Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Pushed to 2011

12 October 2009 3:02 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The Cabin in the Woods, a twisted and unusual take on the usual formula, was written by Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Serenity's Joss Whedon and directed by Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard. The movie was initially set for release on February 5, 2010, but ShockTillYouDrop reports that MGM Studios has decided to push the movie back to January 14, 2011.

The good news is MGM claims the response to the movie has been "phenomenal," and will take the next six months to convert the movie into 3-D. The bad news is that Whedon fans will have to wait another year for the highly anticipated horror flick. To make matters worse, Cabin actor Brian White (Fighting) told Moviehole the movie is terrific.

He's created a new take on the "Cabin in the Woods" formula and it's incredibly funny, it's gory, and it's smart. Any genre fan is going to really, really going to love this. »

Let the Right One In Remake is Cast

5 October 2009 8:28 AM, PDT | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

The Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In was my favorite foreign film of 2008. It was gorgeously shot, the characters were well-conceived, and the acting was terrific. Like your movies with real bite? You'll like Let the Right One In. Now Hammer Films and Overture Films are putting an American spin on the tale, remaking the Swedish film (based on the bestselling book by John Ajvide Lindqvistas) as Let Me In.

Kodi Smit-McPhee (of the upcoming The Road), Chloe Moretz (from 500 Days of Summer) and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) have been signed up to star in this new take on the vampire tale. Production is set to begin in November in New Mexico on Let Me In, with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves at the helm. Reeves also adapted the screenplay.

Smit-McPhee will play Owen, Moretz is Abby, and Jenkins takes on the main adult character ('Hakan' in Let »

Principal Cast Set for 'Let the Right One In' Remake

2 October 2009 10:14 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Having already heard that Kodi Smit-McPhee from the upcoming The Road was the odds-on favorite to take the male lead in Let Me In, a little more light has been shed on the remake of last year's Swedish vampire movie, Let the Right One In, a film you absolutely should see irrespective of this new Americanized version.

Chloe Moretz, who plays Joseph Gordon-Levitt's startlingly mature pre-teen sister in (500) Days of Summer, has been officially cast as the young vamp, called Eli in last year's film, but in the remake she'll be called Abby. Similarly, Smit-McPhee's character will be renamed Owen.

That's a pretty good young cast for this film, which will roll into production with director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) soon for a 2010 release. But it gets better: The great Richard Jenkins, a recent best Actor nominee for The Visitor will play Abby's kinda sorta father figure/manservant. »

More Cast For Right One Remake

2 October 2009 12:38 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

We already knew about Kodi Smit-McPhee, but now Richard Jenkins and Chloe Moretz have been announced as the co-stars in Let Me In, Matt Reeves' (Cloverfield) English-language remount of Let the Right One In. Smit-McPhee is obviously the Oskar character: you'll be able to check out a Kodi performance when John Hillcoat's The Road is finally released. Richard Jenkins is a reliable character actor (check out the outstanding The Visitor if you've not seen it) who should effortlessly inhabit the tragic role of Eli's guardian.Chloe Moretz, most recently seen in (500) Days of Summer but about to be a kick-ass assassin in, er, Kick-Ass, has a tougher role as a 100-year old vampire in a girl's body, but based on what we've seen of Kick-Ass, we suspect she can handle it. It's a long way from her early roles on Disney TV with Pooh and Tigger, but then »

Meet the Cast of "Let the Right One In" Remake!

1 October 2009 7:21 PM, PDT | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Last July, I told you that I was brokenhearted because one of my fave films from 2008 is being remade! Yes, "Let the Right One In" was being given that good, old Hollywood touch! (Take a look at my Top 10 Best Films of 2008)

And, "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves is going to helm! I don't know about you, but the quiet tone of the original Swedish film is very different from the loud bang of "Cloverfield."

But, I'm giving Reeves, Hammer Films, and Overture the benefit of the doubt. They may surprise us! (Read my original article on the remake right here)

Before we talk about the cast (and it's a good sign, because the cast looks good), here's what you need to know about the remake:

1) Reeves is writing and directing the remake based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist

2) It's now going to be called "Let Me In"

Smit-McPhee, Moretz and Jenkins Cast In 'Let Me In' Remake

from left to right: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins Almost a year ago to the day I asked Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star? and along with names like Emile Hirsch, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shia Labeouf I included the possibility of then 12-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee as he was just about to have his coming out party with John Hillcoat's The Road. As it turns out, it's a year later and we are in the exact same position as The Road is finally making its way to theaters on November 25, but the buzz on McPhee hasn't slowed down and he is now set to become even more of a potential star -- at least among those in the online world.
