Nine years ago, game developer Jeff Kinney started to write the diary of a boy named Gregg Heffley. A few years after that, he began to publish the story on the website FunBrain.com. Charles Kochman picked it up for the Harry N. Abrams imprint, Amulet Books, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid phenomenon was on.
Since then, Kinney published a sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules and, this month, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do it Yourself Book. A third story, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Last Straw is due in January.
The series has a passionate following. Like Harry Potter, the books attract kids (who may be too young for Rowling’s longer novels) who can’t wait to read them. Bookstores plan parties around new volumes.
Jeff was in Baltimore for the recent Comic-Con, where Abrams sold advance copies of the new Do It Yourself book.

Sunday Urban emerged in London over the weekend, though she stayed snuggled up into mom Nicole Kidman's chest for kisses. Even if we didn't get a peek at her sweet face just yet, this is the most we've gotten to see Nicole and Keith's three-month-old daughter. The couple was spotted leaving the Wyndhams Theatre after checking out a performance of Ivanov on Saturday, while yesterday they watched and cheered at the Manchester United game to round out their busy weekend. The family is in the UK while Nicole shoots the musical Nine with the rest of the eclectic cast. Luckily she has her jet setting baby and husband to make the time in England all the more special. Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman gave sports fans a shock when she graced the stands of a soccer match in the U.K. on Sunday.

Javier Bardem arrived with a smile at the International Film Festival of San Sebastian last night. He stepped out of his car looking perfectly huggable in his t-shirt and jeans at the festival to premiere his excellent Vicky Cristina Barcelona alongside Woody Allen. It doesn't look like any of his gorgeous female costars joined him for his arrival most notably his girlfriend Penelope Cruz who has been in London preparing for Nine. Javier and his sense of humor are always welcome on their own and hopefully soon he'll get over his exhaustion and get to work on learning a new skill. Flynet and Source

Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn looked like twins in their black dresses and blue Lanvin shopping bags leaving a dinner party for the designer at Sir John Soane's Museum in London last night. With the two looking more and more alike these days, Kate landing herself on People's best dressed list this year has to have a little something to do with Goldie's influence. It's sweet that mom came to visit Kate while she's overseas to make Nine, but before we get to see that all-star cast, her new movie My Best Friend's Girl hits theaters this weekend. About making that one she said, "I finally got to swear and say and do certain things that most people say to each other in normal, everyday life. . . I got a little taste of what those Sex and the City girls were up to for so long, which was fun." While it

Nicole Kidman was out and about in London this weekend smiling with baby Sunday on Sunday. Keith Urban took a break from Mr. Mom duties and performed the last concert of his Summer tour in Indianapolis on Saturday. While Keith is one of the Cma nominees this year, Nicole was number one on a not-so-fun list — topping Forbes' Most Overpaid Actors. Hopefully being a part of the star-studded cast in Nine will help get her off that list. The actress is currently in London preparing for the movie, which also stars Kate Hudson and Penelope Cruz (hmm, that can be interesting). Madonna's A-list pals had fans playing "Who's That Girl?" as they slipped into her London show on Thursday night, not long before the lights began to dim. The singer's gym-buddy (and fellow Anglophile) Gwyneth Paltrow was all smiles as she settled in to watch the Sticky and Sweet show next to fellow actress Kate Hudson. Also sitting nearby in London's massive Wembley Stadium: Fergie and Penelope Cruz. In fact, Madonna, 50, had so many famous friends on hand, they filled not one, but two VIP areas. Another all-star box included Nicole Kidman, who – like Cruz, Fergie and Hudson – is in

Madonna took Wednesday night off to help celebrate Guy's 40th birthday, but last night she was back on stage for the last London show of her Sticky and Sweet Tour. As usual Madonna's energy was high as she danced around with a few special guests cheering her on from the audience — Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Fergie. It's no surprise to see Gwyneth there to cheer on her good friend while Kate and Fergie have both been in town preparing for their musical movie Nine. Maybe the ladies learned a thing or two about keeping an audience entertained watching one of the best in the business up on stage. In fact, he says, he relishes his role as full-time dad to 2-month-old Sunday Rose while wife, Nicole Kidman, is filming. "When my wife's working and I've got time off, I'm just Mr. Mom during the day, taking care of the little girl," said Urban, 40, who also called fatherhood "beautiful." The Kidman-Urban family spent time in Australia while Kidman, 40, filmed the Baz Luhrmann epic Australia, and now mom and daughter are in London where Kidman is rehearsing for the movie musical Nine. Penelope Cruz smiled leaving Cipriani's after dinner with Harvey Weinstein in London Thursday night. The Weinstein Company helped with Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which is getting good reviews, and the duo are set to work together again on her next star-studded project Nine. Some of her costars like Kate Hudson and Fergie have already been spotted around London getting ready for the movie, but unfortunately one person Penelope won't be alongside on the big screen is her real-life boyfriend Javier Bardem, who dropped out of the film a while back. Even without hot Jav, it looks like Penelope is having fun with her studio honcho friend Harvey. Flynet

A new album is imminent for Black Eyed Peas but a tour is unlikely. Reports are saying that there is an internal rift in the group that may cost them a world tour in support of the new effort. Member will.i.am reportedly is furious with the only female member Stacy Ferguson aka Fergie for not putting the band as a priority.
A source told New York gossip column, Page Six that Fergie is more focused on her movie career rather than her music career as a Peas. The source said that Fergie "won't commit to a tour schedule to promote the album" and that musical piece "Nine", that starts shooting in Europe, is her "priority right now".
Black Eyed Peas have not released any studio album since the highly-successful "Monkey Business" in 2005. Each member of the four-piece is busy doing solo projects with will.i.am and Fergie spawning successful solo albums.

The Chicago filmmaker is setting up a drama school, where his stars, including Penelope Cruz, Daniel Day-Lewis and Marion Cotillard can work exclusively on their high notes, dance steps and even their dialect.
Spaniard Cruz reveals, "We have a camp in London where you go from the dancing room to the singing room, to the acting room to the dialect coach.
"It's all day like that and I can't wait to get started."

Latest: The role Kate Hudson will play in her movie musical debut was written especially for her.
Her Nine character - a Vogue magazine writer called Stephanie - didn't feature in the original Broadway show
Director Rob Marshall explains, "Her revelatory skills as a singer and a dancer lead to the creation of the role."
Nine composer Maury Yeston has even written a new song just for Hudson.
The actress will join Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Dame Judi Dench and Sophia Loren in the film adaptation of the hit show, inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8 1/2.
Javier Bardem and Catherine Zeta-Jones have already quit the project - making way for Day-Lewis and Kidman respectively.
