Nazis? Action figures? Behind the scenes of Jackboots On Whitehall!

14 August 2009 4:22 PM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

What if the nazis won the second world war? Then we might get a vision like Philadelphia Experiment II (which I loved), but this takes it much further: they use action figures and models! Written and directed by brothers Edward and Rory McHenry and voiced by Ewan McGregor, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Spall and Rosamund Pike, Jackboots on Whitehall follows a group of heroic villagers as they fight against the Nazi invasion of England and rescue Churchill.

Kent, 1940. Our heroes, a group of villagers from a quiet part of the English South Coast, seem blissfully unaware of the impending doom that sits across the Channel. But Chris, a young farm worker, dreams of the chance to join the army and fight in exciting new lands rather than be stuck in the slow paced village life he has grown up in. His chance comes when the three top Nazis, the enormous Goering, »

The ex-Crystal Maze host told Digital Spy that he had recorded his dialogue for the part of SS head Heinrich Himmler in the animated puppet comedy some time ago. O'Brien said: "I have no idea what's going on, or what the storyline is, how it's shaped up. I just enjoyed playing a horrible Nazi. We all like to play a bit of a nasty (more) »

Jackboots On Whitehall Starts Shooting

15 July 2009 12:11 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Imagine a world where Germany defeated England in World War II. Once you've stopped screaming, imagine your country's saviours in the form of a band of Scottish villagers coming down to London to stomp on the Führer's face and kick him and the rest of the Bosch back over the Channel. Well, that's the story of Jackboots on Whitehall, a new animated film that's started shooting today.Voiced by the likes of Ewan MacGregor, Richard Griffiths, Richard E. Grant, Timothy Spall and Rosamund Pike, this has been described as "the British version of Team America" directed by newcomers Edward and Rory McHenry, and it's shooting in the capital.A project that's been on ice for a few years now, this stop-motion-cum-puppeteering-animatronics-fest is set for release sometime in 2010. Let's hope it looks as barmily interesting as it sounds. »

What's the Story with 'Jackboots on Whitehall'?

10 June 2009 5:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

You know, James Cameron isn't the only one inventing technology for his movies. There's also Jackboots on Whitehall, a sort of stop-motionesque project where "specially made 'Action Man' type action figures" were made so that the action could frolic without the need for stop motion, strings, or animation. And that's only part of the reason it's so cool.

In this alternate cinematic World War II, the Battle of Britain becomes a victory for Hitler, who sashays his proud tuckus to the UK, only to get it handed back to him by the Scots. And it's voiced by names like Alan Cumming, Timothy Spall, Tom Wilkinson, Richard O'Brien, Richard E. Grant, and Rosamund Pike. Sounds awesome, right? (It can't be just me!) Well, it's been in stasis for forever, but might be (finally) moving forward, if vague news bits are to be believed.

I first wrote about the film »
