The screenwriter of this anticipated new film talks about the anticipated summer film and his huge slate of future films
Like most screenwriters, Stuart Beattie may not be well known by name (except for people like me), but more for his body of work. If I were to say 'I interviewed Stuart Beattie" to my friends, they would say, 'Who?' But, if I then said, "The guy who wrote the first Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Collateral and 30 Days of Night," they would surely know that I talked to a talented writer. I spoke with Beattie over the phone to discuss his latest film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which is set to hit theaters nationwide on August 7. Russell Crowe is in early negotiations to reprise his role as Jack Aubrey, the British captain in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Crowe has never been a part of a movie sequel.
The 2003 movie was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won two (cinematography and sound effects editing). It was released the same year as The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which swept all 11 of its nominations leaving only two remaining awards for the Crowe starrer. It earned $212 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
The first movie was based on several books from the 20-novel series written by Patrick O’Brian based on adventures at sea during the Napoleonic Wars. A script has been written for another film based on the eleventh book “The Reverse of the Medal.” Discussions are taking place to acquire the rights from the owner (O’Brian died in 2000).

Eric Bana's directorial debut Love The Beast has become the second-highest debut for a domestic documentary in Australia.
The motor-mad Hulk star showcases his love of fast cars in the new film, which features guest appearances by U.S. talk show host Jay Leno, British Top Gear TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson and American TV's Dr. Phil McGraw.
And Bana has scored big at the box office Down Under, with the movie raking in a total of Aus$353,810 ($241,000/£167,955) in its first week of release, reports Daily Variety.
Bra Boys, a 2007 film, holds the record for the biggest opening for a documentary in Oz, grossing Aus$389,040 ($265,000/£184,680). …
