Deadgirl Writer Now Set to Show Us How to Chop

Trent Haaga, writer of recent cult film success Deadgirl, just announced his directorial debut with the independent thriller Chop. Chop, a revenge thriller with a comedic edge in the tradition of Fargo and Oldboy, centers on a seemingly innocent young couple forced by a psychotic stranger to confront their duplicitous past.

Haaga optioned the script from co-writer Adam Minarovich, and polished it to be his first directing vehicle after working on 40 independent films as a writer, producer, and/or actor.

The Chop script was a hot property in Hollywood, nabbing its co-writer, Minarovich, a top agent within weeks of making the rounds. Haaga received offers from numerous production companies but secured independent financing after the 2008 Toronto Film Festival premiere of Deadgirl, allowing him to retain creative control of the project.

Chop is being produced by Chad Ferrin and Jeff Hamilton and stars powerhouse Indian actress Tanishaa Mukherji and newcomer Billy Bakshi. …
