In real life I like Jay Baruchel a whole lot-- his skinny, twitchy presence is welcome in pretty much anything, and he even played a pretty convincing villain in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. But something about him isn't quite sitting right in the new trailer for How To Train Your Dragon, a DreamWorks Animation movie featuring Baruchel's voice as the scrawny kid in the Viking village who finds himself on the side of the giant reptiles in the epic human-dragon battle. Or, uh, something like that. The trailer spends more time setting up the character and the world than really getting into the plot, which is the way to go with first trailers anyway. You can watch the whole thing in glorious high-res at Yahoo! Movies or in our player below. Even though they quashed the Monsters vs. Aliens sequel, DreamWorks Animation is generally a studio that makes good »

A couple of weeks ago I tweeted about a Brooklyn party I attended for the web production company Dinosaur Diorama and the launch of the latest episode of their hit web series, The Burg. The first new episode in two years, it's titled "Change," and is directed by Peter Sollett, of Raising Victor Vargas and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Here's the teaser, and we'll post the link when it premieres next week. »

I'm not trying to rain on Warmoth's parade in running this Twitter-Wood special report, but this feels newsworthy. Director Oren Peli's "Paranormal Activity" is something of a sensation. Three weeks into its limited release (yet slowly widening) run, the (roughly) $11,000 budgeted found footage horror/suspense flick has earned more than $30 million in box office sales. It's downright staggering.
The success owes its thanks largely to two factors. One: the movie is actually damn good, featuring some well-crafted smoke & mirror and believable performances from the newcomer stars. Two: Paramount has waged an incredibly successful grassroots promotional campaign, built largely on extending the film's word-of-mouth appeal through social networking tools. Micro-blogging service Twitter has of course been one aspect of this campaign, and even celebrities have been getting in on the fun. This Twitter-Wood special edition is all about rounding up those celeb tweets. So hit the jump and enjoy!

Sometimes when director and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst stares into the Internet, the Internet stares back, and when you see what he saw, I think you'll understand why I selected this image as the Twitter Pic of the Day. Plus, if you're still contemplating Halloween costumes for this year, there's some golden inspiration awaiting you.
Twitter-Wood saw some drama in addition to the horror today, though, as Lindsay Lohan vented frustrations about communicating with Samantha Ronson. Those tweets are posted below along with Robert Rodriguez's first-day appraisal of "Predators" filming, David Slade's expectations for "Eclipse" today and Jon Favreau's in-house reenactment of "Couples Retreat." All of that and more lurks below in the Twitter-Wood report for October 13, 2009.

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...

- - - Underrated versus Overrated: If you've watched Jumper, then you'll notice the difference between Jamie Bell and Hayden Christensen - Bell has undeniable screen presence, I can't say the same with Hayden. It could have been different if Tom Sturridge was retained to play Hayden's part. Anyway, who am I to argue? Christensen has more box office appeal than the relatively unknown Sturridge, but acting-wise?

In "Defendor," Woody Harrelson plays a crime-fighting hero who's a little off the beaten path—and possibly a few gadgets short of a utility belt. Last month, we brought you the news that the film—which stars Harrelson and "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" actress Kat Dennings—had been picked up by Sony Pictures, so you might not have to leap tall buildings to find a theater showing it.
When we caught up with Harrelson at the Toronto International Film Festival, we had to ask him about the offbeat superhero tale, and whether he'd had any comic book history to draw from when playing main character Arthur Poppington.
"I'm always playing Arthur," said Harrelson when asked if he approached the film as if he was playing two roles, Arthur and his alter ego, Defendor. "[But] it's Arthur's sensibility of what a superhero is—his take on how a superhero would talk »

"Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" actress Kat Dennings isn't the first name you'd associate with comic book movies, but when we had the chance to sit down with her during the Toronto International Film Festival, she was quick to name-drop an adaptation she'd like to bring to the big screen.
In town to discuss her upcoming, pseudo-superhero movie "Defendor" with Woody Harrelson, Dennings called out action-horror series "Hack/Slash" when asked if there were any books she'd like to play a role in adapting.
"You know who's a cool girl comic book thing?" said Dennings. "Hack/Slash!"
Last we heard from the "Hack/Slash" front, commercial director Fredrik Bond had taken over directing duties on the film, replacing Todd Lincoln. The Devil's Due Publishing series is currently in development with Rogue Pictures, the Relativity Media subsidiary responsible for "Shaun of the Dead" and "Doomsday."

Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, has all the makings of a blockbuster hit. First, there's the whole Drew Barrymore directorial debut thing. And, it stars Barrymore, Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis, Ari Graynor and Zoe Bell.
It's about hot, bad-ass roller derby girls. And, of then there was the Marie Claire photo shoot involving some Barrymore/Page straddling and lick-locking. Unfortunately, however, there was no actual romantic girl-on-girl action in the film, which Ari Graynor (Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) tells New York Magazine she was bummed about.
When the interviewer points out the fact that the "very open lesbianism in the real derby world is kind of soft-pedaled in the film," Graynor, who plays derby captain Eva Destruction, says:
I was pushing for Eva to be a lesbian seductress, hitting on all the girls. I tried to push the envelope a little on stuff that didn’t end up in the film. »

'Celebrating cinema's emerging talents' - That's our new slogan, and I think tMF has come a long way, but of course there is still room for improvement. I think we're lucky that our viewers care enough to tell us both our good and bad points. The October edition of the Top 50 Hitlist will reflect all these... In the meantime, tMF puts the spotlight on today's rising stars - these are the guys who really made a lot of buzz - grabbed plum roles despite intense competition and would be working with the industry's topnotch filmmakers, and more.
Find out who they are - you've certainly heard some of them and a few might be unfamiliar names, but take a closer look - you might be missing some names who are still 'under the radar' but would soon be rockin' the scene!

"Twilight" covers pretty much turned into the Sports Illustrated cover of hand-modeling gigs, but Kimbra Hickey snagged it, and actor Justin Chon earned my photo pic for the day with his candid TwitPic of her from the weekend. Chon, Peter Facinelli, and Christian Serratos all posted over the weekend, and Serratos contributed her own TwitPic, which you'll find below.
Moving on down the feed, Miley Cyrus appears to have had a good time and a Britney Spears concert, and the two performers exchanged Twitter gushes when it was all over. Ice-t, meanwhile, was not gushing in his criticism toward public reaction Saturday when Jenny Slate dropped the F-bomb on "Saturday Night Live." I'm @brianwarmoth, and you can check out all of those posts, along with more Rose McGowan fan artwork(!), Dane Cook with Andre Agassi and what Amanda Bynes wants in a boyfriend. A night of excessive drinking can lead to hangovers or worse for most people, but for actress Ari Graynor, it's brought nothing but a wealth of career opportunities. After playing the ultimate drunk girl in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Graynor's been booking gigs left and right, including a role as the blond bombshell Eva Destruction in Drew Barrymore's Whip It and a multi-episode arc on Fox's Fringe. Graynor's fall season was originally supposed to get even more crowded with the release of the Michael Cera comedy Youth in Revolt (where she plays the young, bikini-clad girlfriend of Steve Buscemi), but that film's since been bumped to 2010, a year Graynor already has four other films set to bow in.
Finding time to talk to the busy 26-year-old wasn't easy, but Graynor managed to squeeze in some time between shoots to dish with Movieline about tormenting Ellen Page, making out with Steve Buscemi, »

In the original 1980 version of Fame, the gay character of Montgomery (Paul Crane) is a depressed, shy young man tortured by his sexuality. Given that nearly thirty years have passed since then — marked by huge strides in gay visibility and gay rights — it's to be expected that the remake of Fame would drop the tortured gay storyline for its gay teen dancer.
But the new version of Fame still has a gay character, right? Not according to Paul McGill (pictured below), the actor playing the part of Kevin, a student attending the performing arts high school in which much of the movie takes place.
During an exclusive interview with McGill, AfterElton.com asked about Kevin being gay. Said McGill, "Originally, in the original sides, in the original script, he was gay. But it’s not the case anymore. That's not in the movie. That’s false information, actually, that’s on your website. »
