A father, concerned for his autistic daughter’s health, sees her immediate removal from the hospital as her only option. An elevator break-down prevents a smooth exit and renders them trapped with others. This is only the beginning of their descent into hell. When the doors finally open, the hospital appears mysteriously deserted. As mutilated bodies are found, creatures from a dark world start a frightening attack. It soon becomes clear that the survival of the group may rest solely on the little girl.
The one thing that needs to be known before watching Dark Floors is that this film is primarily a showcase for the Finnish metal band Lordi. Those unfamiliar with the band should consider them like Rob Zombie meets Gwar. The international subtitle for the film is even “The Lordi Motion Picture”. The band, along with the leader Mr. Lordi, came up with the idea for the film,

Gunnar Hansen talks Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre

At the recent Rock and Shock convention in Worcester, Ma, Fango caught up with genre vet Gunnar Hansen and queried him about his latest fright flick, the wonderfully titled Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre. Directed by Julius Kemp (a co-producer on the Lordi vehicle Dark Floors), it’s about…well, exactly what you’d think it’s about.
“There’s a family in it that really resembles the one in Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” the original Leatherface tells us. “They’re called the Fishbillies, ’cause they’re whale hunters,” and they do indeed massacre a group of whale watchers whose boat, piloted by Hansen’s Captain Pétur, has broken down. Despite the camp-suggestive title, however, the actor assures that the film is “played straight; it’s a hardcore horror movie, and very bloody.”
Clearly, the filmmakers knew what they were doing when it came to pitching the project to Hansen, who was actually born in Reykjavik,

Weekly Body Count: Heavy Metal Horror

I'm not sure how the heavy metal and horror movie connection started but it's a match made in hell. The two go together like chocolate and peanut butter. It's a natural pairing. Alice Cooper had been combining Grand Guignol stage theatrics with live music since the 70's. Blue Oyster Cult wound horror and science fictions themes into their lyrics. Black Sabbath took their name from a Mario Bava movie yet the movies and the music maintained a safe distance from one another until heavy metal became the undisputed king of album sales in the mid to late 80's. The two seemed to officially become bed mates in 1986 with Friday the 13th Part 6 when the very same and this time very crazy Alice Cooper provided the synth happy track "He's back! (The Man Behind The Mask)" to the soundtrack. Before you knew it, Dokken was writing the theme song to my

DVD Review: 'After Dark Horrorfest III: 8 Films to Die For'

Chicago – Lionsgate and After Dark Films’ recently released their third collection of “8 Films to Die For” and this year proved to be the most uninspiring octet to date. With fewer risks taken than the last two years and less extreme failures or successes, “After Dark Horrorfest III” is terrifyingly dull.
Overall DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0
What makes this year’s collection rather forgettable is the lack of extremes on either side of the rating spectrum. The first two years produced some truly excellent genre gems including “Borderland,” “The Hamiltons,” and “The Abandoned.” At the same time, movies like “Dead Lake,” “Undead,” and “Nightmare Man” should be buried in a deep hole and never see the light of day again.
I have to admit that I liked the variety in quality of the last two years more than this year, when nearly every film registered as forgettable more than good or bad. There was one notable standout,

We've Seen 'The Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre' Trailer!

Twitch Film scored the trailer for Dark Floors producer Julius Kemp's
latest directorial effort, The Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre (or Rwwm) - and while the title may be a whole lotta silly, there's a lot to like in this clip. The flick stars original Leatherface Gunner Hansen and is described as 'An epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel have just gone bust, and everything goes out of control'. In my opinion this description does Not do the flick any justice. Hit the jump for the artful trailer and let us know what you think! Worth checking out in your opinion?

The deeper I delve into writing, the more movies and literature I digest. My biggest obstacle at this point is not finding the material, it’s finding the time to watch it, and the money to purchase it all. After consistently emptying my bank account on countless DVD’s and books over the last few months, I really started to ask myself one question: How the hell can I pick all this stuff up quickly and affordably? Well, an obvious solution occurred to me - why not seek out box sets?
While Ebay is my one stop shop for books (I recommend it to all), DVD’s are not always as easy to track down, so I decided to highlight 15 cool box sets which will enable you to beef up your collection without breaking your pocket book.
Omen: Pentology is a five disc DVD set (UK Release) which features the
