‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Red Band Trailer

2 November 2009 12:36 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Horror and comedy are two of my favorite genres and just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I like when they are combined. Last month, Screen Rant writer Ross Miller did a series on horror films that were combined with other genres. One of those combinations was horror plus comedy and the movie he choose was Shaun of the Dead. Other great examples are the always popular Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness with Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.

Well today, courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting, we have a new trailer for the upcoming horror/comedy film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. If the film is half as funny as the trailer then I am really looking forward to seeing it. The movie stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dodgeball) and Tyler Labine (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) as two redneck hillbillies that want to do nothing more than enjoy »

Jessica Biel is “Engaged”

29 October 2009 6:54 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Oh dear. The teenage boy within me loves this story, and I’m sure this movie will make a lot of moolah specifically for that reason.

Jessica Biel has signed on to star in F***ing Engaged, based on a script by Julia Brownell (it’s unknown if the asterisks were actually in the original script, but I’d bet my bottom dollar after the debacle that was Zack and Miri that the title gets a facelift). Brownell is new on the scene, so this is her big break in Hollywood.

The film revolves around a couple who make a pact to have sex every single day up to the date of their wedding.

With a log line like that and Jessica Biel in the cast, you’ve got money in the bank.

Brownell worked on the script with producers Dan Halsted, Cameron Bunce, and Michelle Purple.

The Official Game of Poovie (Poop + Movie)

17 October 2009 10:51 PM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

I am not the creator, I am just the messenger.

I just learned about a new game.

It’s called “Poovie.” Poop + movie.

The Rules of Poovie:

1. Come up with a movie title that can make you think of poop or pooping.

2. No commenter can go two times in a row.

3. You can only give one movie title per turn.

Need some help thinking? Here are some examples –

Operation Dumbo Drop

Five Easy Pieces

The Firm

Something’s Gotta Give

The Big Easy

Grease

Deep Impact

Gone in 60 Seconds

I originally heard of this idea from an interview by Justin Long. Yes, the kid from “Ed” who is dating Drew Barrymore and starred in Live Free and Die Hard, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and Drag Me to Hell has done something perhaps even more impressive than any of those flicks.

Enjoy the game.

Kevin Smith On His Video Pitch To Weezer: 'They Wanted Something Good, I Gave Them Something Me'

12 October 2009 8:24 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

The video for Weezer's new single "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" (from their forthcoming seventh album Raditude) will be premiering soon, and no matter what was happening with Weezer's music, they have always been a top-shelf video band. In fact, they first gained national attention with the groundbreaking clip for "Buddy Holly" (which was directed by Spike Jonze). Along the way, they've worked with some huge directors (Jonze, Mark Romanek, Sophie Muller and Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris) on some cornerstone videos ("Say It Ain't So," "Hash Pipe" and last year's "Pork and Beans" among them).

One director they never worked with was "Clerks" and "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" mastermind Kevin Smith. But it wasn't for lack of trying — the band actually hit up Smith for a video treatment for "Keep Fishin'" back in 2002. "Weezer asked me about doing a video, »

Kevin Smith’s at it Again…Sort Of

8 October 2009 8:22 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Good and bad news for fans of director Kevin Smith: he’s got a couple of projects in the works. If you’re a fan of Smith’s, this should be good news, so what’s the bad? Smith is going in a different direction than what we’ve all grown used to.

When Kevin Smith released Jersey Girl in 2004, he veered drastically from the type of films that had given him a name in film-making. From movies that centered their comedic value around sarcasm, crassness, and marijuana, Smith went to the opposite extreme, giving audiences sweet, yet fairly drab, family comedy. His subsequent films, Clerks II and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, while not quite the caliber of his first films, seemed like Smith was making a return to his former style. But alas, it was not to be.

Instead, Smith is working on a buddy cop flick, »

Kevin Smith May Have Funding for ‘Red State’

8 October 2009 4:40 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Cult filmmaker Kevin Smith may have finally found the funding he needs for Red State.  What the hell is that you ask?  Well, allow me to rewind the timeline, sir.

Smith announced the then untitled movie at the Wizard World Chicago event in 2006.  He initially resisted giving details, but a fan shouted a rock, paper, scissors challenge and Smith accepted.  After all, a real man never backs down from hand-based duels.  After besting the fan in two out of three, Smith said he’s always wanted to try a horror film to a raucous response.  Interest in the movie was born.

Then the writer/director got around to finishing the script in 2007 and offered more info.  Red State is a controversial sort of “horror flick” about religious fundamentalists in Middle America inspired by a Fred Phelps-like monster.  It goes without saying this a major departure for the typically comedic filmmaker. »

Failure of Zack and Miri Changed Keven Smith's Habits ... But Not How You Might Expect

7 October 2009 2:41 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Considering Kevin Smith's dearth of stoner comedies, it may surprise you that he recently admitted to the Huffington Post that pot smoking wasn't a past time he regularly enjoyed. He decided to change his pot smoking ways after Zack and Miri Make a Porno bombed at the box office, though. Smith says he took the movie's failure hard.

I was depressed, man. I wanted that movie to do so much better. I'm sitting there thinking "That's it, that's it, I'm gone, I'm out. The movie didn't do well and I killed Seth Rogen's career! This dude was on a roll until he got in with the likes of me. I'm a career killer! Judd [Apatow]'s going to be pissed, the whole Internet's going to be pissed because they all like Seth, and the only reason they like me anymore is because I was involved with Seth! And now I f**kin' ruined that. »

Kevin Smith Preps to 'Hit Somebody' Next

6 October 2009 2:01 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Kevin Smith is always up for promoting his goods and with a new book out and post-production on A Couple of Dicks underway his latest discussion was with the folks at The Huffington Post. Peppered within scores of curse words and self-loathing Smith shared some details on his planned hockey-based feature Hit Somebody.

Hit Somebody is based on a Warren Zevon song about a hockey enforcer. As HuffPo's Katla McGlynn puts it, "the song adaptation tells the story of a guy who wants more than anything to be in the NHL, but is only good at one thing: beating people up on the ice." What may sound like the first ten minutes of Happy Gilmore is actually, according to Smith, something akin to a Forrest Gump of sports movies, but not as ambitious.

The film is expected to be a more serious feature than the Jay and Silent Bob style »

Kevin Smith Updates On Ranger Danger And Hit Somebody

5 October 2009 10:13 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

If you.ve listened to Kevin Smith's semi-weekly podcasts, you know that after the box office flatline of Zack and Miri Make a Porno the director went through a sort of mid-life crisis. It.s that mid-life crisis that.s driven him away from making the more personal, interesting movies we all expect from him into making A Couple Of Dicks, a standard buddy cop flick written by someone else. In an extensive interview with Huffington Post Kev talks about his change in midset (brought about in part by becoming a total stoner) and about what he.s up to next. What he.s up to next is ditching everything fans have been excited about for years now in favor of doing a hockey movie. In particular Smith addresses Ranger Danger, the much luster after sci-fi adventure comedy which he.s teased several times over the years. Where.s »

Kevin Smith: 'Weed helps me write films'

Kevin Smith has claimed that smoking marijuana has made him a better filmmaker. The Zack and Miri Make a Porno writer/director admitted to smoking cannabis joints up to three times a day after star Seth Rogen introduced him to the drug last year. He joked to the New York Post: "I know you're supposed to tell kids not to do drugs, but, kids, do it! Do weed! Don't do the other stuff, but weed is good... What you want to do is what I did, build a movie empire and, at age 38, smoke it all away." Smith went on to confess (more) »

Believe it or not, Kevin Smith didn’t smoke weed until recently—and the drug helped him along to an epiphany after his Seth Rogen-driven Zack and Miri Make a Porno bombed . "It started as sort of a midlife crisis thing but it wasn't that,” he tells the Huffington Post. “It was sort of me saying ‘You can't write like that anymore Kevin, you can't write like a fucking slacker, you can't write dick and fart joke movies anymore.’” Thanks to that realization, Smith says his career has turned a corner. “It’s sad when you realize you can't be the... »

Kevin Smith Talks Judd Apatow, Weed, And His Post-'Zack And Miri' Depression

5 October 2009 6:31 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Today it seems every leading man in a comedy is a nerdy, awkward, social deviant trying to get laid. But it wasn't always like that. Kevin Smith's iconic films of the 90's brought the often overlooked slacker to the leading role in this decade's films, offering comic book geeks everywhere the chance to see themselves represented on the screen. Now in his late 30s, Smith's fame has almost surpassed that of his films, and he's in a period of transition. I recently sat down with the filmmaker/writer/pop-culture godfather to talk about his new book, his upcoming projects and the heartbreaking realization that he's not the slacker he was 15 years ago. When I arrived at Smith's hotel room, he opened the door wearing a long, black bathrobe, reminiscent of Silent Bob's trench coat. After we sat down on... »

Kevin Smith does better with weed

Kevin Smith says smoking marijuana makes him a better filmmaker. The 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno' director-and-writer has smoked cannabis-laced cigarettes up to three times a day since Hollywood funnyman Seth Rogen introduced him to the illegal drug last year and thinks it had improved his scripts. He quipped: "I know you're supposed to tell kids not to do drugs, but, kids, do it! Do weed! Don't do the other stuff, but weed is good... What you want to do is what I did, build a movie empire and, at age 38 smoke it all away." 'Surrogates' Arrives In Theaters: Here's What You Need To Know!

"Surrogates" hits theaters today, and Jonathan Mostow's adaptation of Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele's graphic novel already received a positive review from our very own Kurt Loder. As longtime readers are well aware, we've been covering this film since it was in its earliest stages, bringing you news about the film's cast, story, potential sequels (both on-screen and in comics form), and many of the differences between the film and its source material.

In an effort to get you up to speed on all things "Surrogates," I've compiled a roundup of "Surrogates" coverage from the Splash Page archives featuring lots of things you should know (and a few things you don't need to know, but are cool anyway).

Just over a year ago, we spoke with Venditti, the writer of "The Surrogates" graphic novel, who explained why Bruce Willis was perfect for the lead role in the film. »

DVD Review: Observe and Report

23 September 2009 1:30 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Colin reviews the DVD for Observe And Report.

On paper, 2009's Observe and Report looked like a stinker. It came from writer/director Jody Hill, the "mastermind" behind the awful Foot Fist Way, it starred the seriously overexposed Seth Rogen, and it featured a plot that seemed like little more than a rehash of Paul Blart: Mall Cop. How could it not suck?

Perhaps my low expectations were a factor, but I must admit I liked Observe more than I expected. The film takes place at Forest Ridge Mall, where a chubby pervert (Randy Gambill) causes havoc: he routinely exposes himself to shoppers in the parking lot. This greatly offends chief mall security guard Ronnie Barnhardt (Rogen), who makes it his mission to stop the flasher.

Already pretty intense, he becomes even more focused when the perv traumatizes makeup girl Brandi (Anna Faris), the girl over whom he obsesses. Ronnie »

Ashley Greene Joins Twitter, An 'Eclipse' Pic And Tom Felton's Birthday In Today's Twitter-Wood

"Twilight" was out in full force today in in the Twitter-Wood feed, with David Slade providing his usual posts -- this time with a behind-the-scenes pic -- and Ashley Greene joining her fellow "Eclipse" cast members by registering a verified Twitter account. Needless to say, she has been added to our follow list.

In non-"Twilight" news Tom Felton had a birthday today, and it sounds like he had a good time watching "Entourage" and hanging out at the beach. Elsewhere, Tyrese Gibson posted an old shot of himself with Tupac Shakur, and Elizabeth Banks explained a disturbing dream she had last night about Matthew Perry. Read them all below. Q&A: Kevin Smith on His Wife, Horny Twilight Moms, and His Own Lack of Talent

18 September 2009 3:07 PM, PDT | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

Kevin Smith is a rare breed of filmmaker. Unlike almost every other auteur with name recognition and a loyal audience—Quentin Tarantino, Woody Allen, et al—he has become more popular than his own movies. His films do O.K. enough at the box office, but nothing like the monster business of his comedy soul mate Judd Apatow. Smith’s last flick, the Seth Rogen-starring Zack and Miri Make a Porno, grossed $31.5 million domestically, a career high for Smith but only a few million more than another Seth Rogen sex comedy, Knocked Up, made in its opening weekend alone. While Smith has yet to direct a bona fide blockbuster, he’s done pretty well for himself as a cult of personality. He’s one of the few movie directors—hell, maybe the only movie director—who can consistently sell out an auditorium. Could Martin Scorsese captivate a crowd for »

Taylor Swift Support, Kanye Condemnations And The Chicago Bears In Today's Twitter-Wood

14 September 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Editor's note: There were apparently some technical difficulties last night, as Twitter-Wood never ran. So in lieu of today's Daily TwitPic, here's a special morning edition of Twitter-Wood for 9/14/09.

The Vma's trended nearly as well in the Twitter-Wood feed last night as they did on Twitter, and if you've had any internet access over the last 24 hours you probably know that a lot of that was provoked by Kanye West's unexpected interruption during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. Elizabeth Banks, Kat Dennings, John Stamos and others contributed to the online conversation that followed, expressing their thoughts on his interjection.

Football was pretty popular last night as well, and if you didn't know that Ashton Kutcher was a Bears fan, you do now, thanks to Demi Moore's photo tweet of her defeated fan-husband after the Green Bay Packers stuck it to Chicago in the fourth quarter. Check out all of those posts, »

Edward Norton visits ABC's 'Modern Family'

Edward Norton is probably high atop the list of serious actors you'd never expect to sign on for a TV comedy guest spot, but the two-time Oscar nominee is set to cameo on ABC's "Modern Family." ABC announced on Thursday (Sept. 10) that Norton will play Izzy Fontaine, a  "famous" (ABC's quotes, not ours) musician hired by Julie Bowen's Claire as an anniversary gift for Ty Burrell's Phil. Burrell, savvy entertainment fans will note, co-starred with Norton in "The Incredible Hulk."
