'Dead Of Night' Moving Under the Radar

7 December 2009 9:40 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Could Dead Of Night be the sleeper hit of 2010?

A recent MTV.com poll asked readers to pick which of next year’s comic book movies they’re most looking forward to, and the answer wasn’t all that surprising. Iron Man 2 garnered 53% of the vote, while Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World netted 11% each.

But logging in at a respectable 7% was Dead Of Night, based on the comics starring Dylan Dog, a London-based supernatural investigator whose adventures have been translated into more than a dozen languages. While that may not seem like a big number, what makes it impressive is Dead Of Night had been left off the poll, meaning the 7% was the result of fan outpouring and a write-in campaign.

Despite its initial disadvantage, the Kevin Munroe-directed film, which stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) as Dog, took a larger percentage of the vote than The Green Hornet, »

'Superman Returns' Star Brandon Routh Joins 'Chuck' Cast

28 August 2009 6:03 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Just because Brandon Routh isn't scheduled to return to blue and red tights anytime soon doesn't mean the former Superman hasn't picked up his share of new skills.

In addition to his roles as nightmare investigator Dylan Dog in the upcoming "Dead Of Night," as well as evil, vegan-powered rocker Todd Ingram in "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" the actor will now allegedly be able to add spy skills to his resume on the upcoming third season of NBC's "Chuck."

According to EW.com's Ausiello Files, Routh will appear in a multi-episode story arc beginning with the fourth episode of the upcoming season.

Routh will reportedly play a mysterious new spy heading Operation Barwoski, the mission named after Chuck's head full of downloaded Central Intelligence Agency secrets. This position could make Routh's character both Chuck's spy mentor and romantic rival when he sets his sights on handler Sarah. »

Dylan Dog Is 'Kind Of Like Han Solo,' Says Brandon Routh

6 August 2009 12:22 PM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Actor Brandon Routh is all over the geek scene lately, whether it's playing the Man of Steel in "Superman Returns," taking a more indie turn as Vegan musician Todd Ingram in "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" or his upcoming role as Italian comic book hero Dylan Dog in "Dead of Night." And as if that wasn't enough geek cred, he's even a "World of Warcraft" gamer, too.

When I sat down with Routh during this year's Comic-Con, I'll admit being a little unfamiliar with his character in "Dead of Night." Luckily for me, Routh was able to describe Dylan Dog in terms I (and I'm guessing a lot of readers here) will understand — simply put, he pulled the "Star Wars" card.

"That's what's cool about Dylan Dog, he's kind of like Han Solo," Routh said of his "normal, every day guy" character. "He just has his swagger and his charisma »

Brushing Off the Dust of Comic-Con 2009 Part 3

We shut Dick's down. As some of the party moved towards the Hard Rock, we decided to call it a night. It was the only sleep I got the entire trip, as I was to be up and going at it full bore on Thursday with no plan of stopping for a second. 10:00 am was the Masters of the Web panel. Paulington was at the table, and all the guys arrived in their tway Twilight gear. Kevin Munroe, director of Dead of Night, moderated the presentation, kicking things off with an open discussion directed towards the audience. The framework of this verbal essay was on par with what we've seen in earlier years. The same old hobo backwash about running your own site, getting paid, and not getting laid. »

Set Visit: We Creep Into the Dead of Night with Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington!

29 July 2009 2:18 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

"I think of it as a comedy, action, thriller, horror. It is all of those things. There are some funny-scary moments, but I am not a huge fan of horror in general. Dead of Night is riding a fine line, which is why I think this film is so unique. It is many things. I don't think you could place it in just one genre. I think it is Ghostbusters for this generation." - Brandon Routh

Things that go bump in the night. Devils, demons, werewolves, and the living dead. An angry vampire and a mummy. These are all minor nuisances to the supernatural private investigator Dylan Dog and his trusting, zombified sidekick Marcus. Clad in his signature red shirt, this challenger of the unknown and his faithful undead companion roam the Louisiana bayou looking to thwart any paranormal oddities out to wreck havoc on our unsuspecting daily lives. CC2009: Masters of the Web

23 July 2009 3:47 AM, PDT | doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news »

It's tough getting to be a Master of the Web. I say that half joking but still with a deal of seriousness, as the big names in blogging and movie news talk about how long and tough it is to get and stay at the positions they're in.

It's a large audience, lots of people want to be one of the panelists and have a very romantic idea about what it means to start and run a site. The first questions out of the gate were about getting paid, advertising revenue and access.

But the real questions, the interesting ones, the ones that the panelists had good responses over were journalism vs. blogging, dedication and responsibility. .

The journalism question was a dominant one at the panel. There was a big debate across the panel as to if they were journalists, op-ed writers or bloggers. No real consensus -- only tradeoffs. »

Dead of Night, the supernatural thriller based on the best-selling horror comic-book series, Dylan Dog has completed principal photography, Hyde Park Entertainment Group and Platinum Studios announced yesterday.

The Kevin Munroe directed picture stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) as reluctant paranormal investigator Dylan Dog, who finds himself caught in the middle of a war between the demonic undead. Sam Huntington co-stars as Routh’s wise-cracking sidekick Marcus. On the subject of Routh as the iconic Dylan Dog, director Kevin Munroe was all praise:

“Dylan Dog is a character that brilliantly mixes charisma, affability, and hard-driven principles. I couldn’t be happier with Brandon’s portrayal - he meshed all of those aspects into a charming action hero, funny as he was ass-kicking. I can’t wait to share his work with the world.”

Exclusive: ‘Dead Of Night’ Star Brandon Routh Talks PG-13 Rating And Villains

25 June 2009 7:39 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Actor Brandon Routh will complete a unique comic book movie trifecta when he wraps work on “Dead of Night.” The star of “Superman Returns” already grabbed a top-shelf role in a superhero movie, and soon he’ll appear in theaters in a live-action adaptation of “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” based on the hit indie comic.

The third jewel in his comics-movie crown will be his starring role as Dylan Dog in the upcoming film “Dead of Night,” which will round out his résumé nicely with an Italian comics horror property — one which Routh told MTV News his producers might lighten up a bit from its source material.

“The comic property would probably be rated ‘R,’ we’re going for a PG-13 so more people can enjoy the film,” Routh told MTV News regarding the “Dead of Night” adaptation. “It’s [not just] gore and horror, it’s a lot more straight action, »

Gaze Into The Eye Of Dylan Dog!

Expect to be hearing a lot more about Kevin Munroe’s Dead Of Night in these pages over the coming months.  And not just because it’s the live action directorial debut from the director of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature - though that fact pleases me and is certainly not without appeal - but because this is a long awaited film adaptation of Tiziano Sclavi’s Dylan Dog comic books, Sclavi’s books having also served as the inspiration for Michele Soavi’s Dellamorte, Dellamore or Cemetary Man.  This one is rumored to be a much more faithful adaptation than Soavi’s and the very first image of star Brandon Routh as the lead character has just surfaced over at Shock Till You Drop.  Hit that link to check it out.
