The Notable Films of 2010: Part Two

16 December 2009 3:18 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Case 39

Opens: January 1st 2010

Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley

Director: Christian Alvart

Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.

Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out as the lone release on New Year's Day for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Lead star Renee Zellweger also scored personal criticism to a level rarely seen in film reviews outside of comments about Nicole Kidman

Border Crossing Horrors Abound in Chris Peckover's Undocumented

15 December 2009 1:37 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

There are plenty of real life horrors out there to go along with the made-up stuff that we hold near and dear. In fact, there's probably more. Constant jokes are made about Mexican border-crossers, but the way our country is going ... pretty soon the shoe is likely to be on the other foot. Director Chris Peckover is taking the subject of "illegals" and adding a horror twist to the affair.

Bloody-Disgusting scored the skinny on Peckover's new film, Undocumented, which tells the tale of a documentary crew who accompany a group of illegal immigrants crossing the border but run afoul when they're captured by a gang of sadistic radicals in New Mexico.

The film, said to be a cross between Paranormal Activity and Saw, was shot on location in New Mexico and stars Scott Mechiowicz (Mean Creek), Alona Tal (Night of the Living Dead: Origins), Greg Serano (Terminator: Salvation), Kevin Weisman, …

14 December 2009 4:59 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A few weeks ago I got to see about twenty minutes from Screen Gems upcoming movie Legion.  While I didn’t see enough footage to say if the final film is going to be worth our time, one of the clips they showed us was great, and it just so happens Screen Gems released a clip from the scene today.  Since I’d rather not spoil it, hit the jump and check it out.  But I will say it involves a grandma named Gladys…

If you enjoy the clip, watch the trailer further down the page as it has a bit more from the scene.

If you’re not familiar with Legion, it’s a supernatural action thriller where an out-of-the-way diner becomes the unlikely battleground for the survival of the human race.  When God loses faith in Mankind, he sends his legion of angels to bring on the Apocalypse. …

Priest Arrives Earlier, Resident Evil Afterlife Later

7 December 2009 9:24 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

According to the boys at Styd, Screen Gems have shuffled their schedule a tad, and have now set Scott Stewart’s “Priest”, his follow-up to “Legion” to arrive in theaters two months earlier than expected in August 2010, “Resident Evil: Afterlife’s” originally planned date. The Milla Jovovich horror sequel will now move to January 14, 2011. Why the shuffling? Blame it on the 3D. The studio apparently realizes that Paul W.S. Anderson, who returns to helm the fourth installment after producing the previous two (he directed the first), needs more time to finish the 3D work on “Afterlife”. Styd also reports that “Afterlife’s” delay will put it in direct competition with Joss Whedon’s own little horror movie, “Cabin in the Woods” in early 2011. They speculate that this could mean a move for MGM’s “Woods”, being that “Afterlife” is a juggernaut of a franchise, and let’s face it, Whedon …

Legion Images: Paul Bettany Wants God Dead

2 December 2009 3:46 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Legion will be an early contender for the title of most blasphemous movie of the year when it hits theaters on January 10th of next year. Paul Bettany plays the Archangel Michael who, when God decides to wipe out humanity, grabs a machine gun and flies down to earth to help mankind kick Almighty.s ass. And you thought the Catholic Church hated the Da Vinci Code. Between this and his stint as Charles Darwin in the controversial biopic released earlier this year, can there be any doubt that Paul Bettany hates Jesus? This can.t be a coincidence. Jesus must have slept with his mom or something. Sony has just released the first three official stills from Legion to go with the insane poster released awhile back. When the Apocalypse comes, angels will come to earth with Ak-47's. Legion doesn't star any weak, sissy angels. They have the muscle packed badassness that is Kevin Durand to carry the heat. Of course, there's Paul Bettany as the archangel Michael in charge of saving humanity. At first, I didn't really know what to make of this, but after seeing the trailer at the movies I was sold. It's a wonderful story of God being done with our entire planet, and saying, 'F*ck it, let's start over.' …
