Yes. Boy A is the title of a 2004 novel by British writer Jonathan Trigell.
"Boy A" is the story of a child criminal released into society as an adult. The title is based on the court practice of concealing the identity of child defendants.
Mostly Manchester, England. If you're familiar with Manchester and you watch carefully, you may be able to recognize some of the landmarks. For example, early on you see the Big Bang monument outside the City of Manchester stadium as a reflection in the car window and, on the rooftop after the party, you can see the big red "palace" sign. There is also a scene under the bridge near the Gmex. The final scenes are shot in Blackpool at the end of the North Pier.
The author says that Boy A is a work of fiction, but many viewers see similarities between the story and the murder of three-year old James Bulger by two 10-year old boys in Merseyside in north western England.
