There are some pretty great, and some pretty awful movie titles out there. From something long like Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, some titles just don’t work. Luckily, a few good screenwriters feel the same way, and bring us Hot Tub Time Machine.
The premise sounds pretty much like bliss once you hear the names involved. Four guys decide to bond on a ski trip and party hard all night on Red Bull and Vodka. They continue the night in the house’s hot tub, which transports them to 1986, where hi-jinks then ensue.
The aforementioned names involved are John Cusack, Craig Robinson (The Office, Zach and Miri Make a Porno), Clark Duke (Sex Drive, Superbad), and Rob Corddry (What Happens in Vegas, Harold and Kumar 2). The film basically looks like The Hangover meets Back to the Future, with a little

Summit Mulling Best Ways to Turn Fourth Twilight Book Into One Billion Twihard Dollars

Two weeks and $480 million later, Summit Entertainment -- the small indie studio who prior to Twilight mania was best known for modest filmed entertainments like Never Back Down and Sex Drive -- are now left with a two-headed challenge: one, finding a place to stow that obnoxious amount of New Moon money, and two, figuring out the best way to make even more. The series's third chapter, Eclipse, is already in post-production, where it will eventually receive its finishing coat of vampire glitter and be buffed to a high sheen before rolling off the assembly line this coming June. (Yes, June. It will be a good half-decade before you'll not be hearing which team is up or down in the Northwestern Hunky Monster Conference.)

Let's be honest, without Twilight we probably wouldn't even be talking about Summit Entertainment any longer. They have, of course, been around much longer than most of us realize with films such as Memento, American Pie, Mr. and#038; Mrs. Smith, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as part of their production company cred. However, as distributors they have Twilight and the modest hit in Knowing (which they handled domestically and not internationally). Beyond that what are we really talking about?
They managed to squander what I understand to be a rather entertaining teen comedy in Sex Drive, Push bombed, Astro Boy is still in theaters but you wouldn't know it, Sorority Row (a teen horror with the promise of nudity) earned $11 million and the sin of all sins, Summit's 17%-Rotten Tomatoes rated Fly Me To The Moon made more money at the box-office

Summit Finds a New Thriller: The Cold Light of Day

Some of the early big pictures for Summit Entertainment was involved in were thrillers: Memento, Vanilla Sky and Insomnia. But the company has courted kids lately with Twilight, Sorority Row and Sex Drive. But the company hasn't ruled out making fantasy films for adults -- Summit has just picked up a script called The Cold Light of Day, by writers Scott Wiper and John Petro, which the company will co-finance and distribute.
Variety reports that the film follows "a young American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain. He's left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets." That's a lot to do in just a few hours; hopefully there's a guidebook to government conspiracies laying around. Like I said: a fantasy film for adults. No swords and orcs required. Granted, with that logline the movie

‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Red Band Trailer

Horror and comedy are two of my favorite genres and just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I like when they are combined. Last month, Screen Rant writer Ross Miller did a series on horror films that were combined with other genres. One of those combinations was horror plus comedy and the movie he choose was Shaun of the Dead. Other great examples are the always popular Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness with Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.
Well today, courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting, we have a new trailer for the upcoming horror/comedy film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. If the film is half as funny as the trailer then I am really looking forward to seeing it. The movie stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dodgeball) and Tyler Labine (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) as two redneck hillbillies that want to do nothing more than enjoy

#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
1. Michael Jackson's This is It
I won't act like I feel great about this prediction. But it's where I'm at, $15k per theater, nearly 3,500 theaters domestically. You guys had predictions ranging from $30m - $50m last weekend, does Wednesday's $7.5m make you reconsider? I don't think it can go much higher than my call, but I could see something in the $40s happening if all the rabid fans see it before the weekend even gets here.
Estimate: $52.2 million
2. Paranormal Activity
$66m and rising. So let's talk Oscar nom! No, just kidding. But still, nice job by everyone involved.
Estimate: $18.2 million
3. Law Abiding Citizen
And then there were the rest of the movies. Some folks out there don't have the top twelve making $100m, but I've got it cracking $115m. So I suppose I'm bullish?
Estimate: $7.7 million
4. Couples Retreat
The bottom eight films

Last week, the "Twilight"-loving Internet was set ablaze when the news broke that Rachelle Lefevre, who played Victoria in "Twilight" and the upcoming "New Moon," would be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in "Eclipse," the third movie in the series based on Stephenie Meyer's popular book series. As you might imagine, Twilighters had some things to say over the weekend at the annual TwiCon gathering. See for yourself:
You Twilighters here on the MTV Movies Blog had plenty to say yourselves too. In fact, that's why I'm here today. I figure if we're going to highlight TwiCon goers on video, I can at least highlight some of you commenters here on the blog. So keep reading for some of your own thoughtful responses to the Lefevre/Howard controversy. By the way: kudos to you all for keeping things relatively civil and respectful.

Amanda Crew Helps Zac Efron See Ghosts

Amanda Crew, your ship has come in. She was part of the excellent ensemble of the surprisingly good raunch comedy Sex Drive, but even though that movie didn't take off, it's led her to something even bigger. Crew will star opposite Zac Efron in Charlie St. Cloud, Universal's adaptation of Ben Sherwood's novel about a cemetery caretaker who communicates with the dead.
According to THR, Efron will play the young man, who has weekly conversations with his dead younger brother and also meets up with a young woman (Crew), who is either missing after a sailing accident or, alas, also a ghost.
I'm a staunch supporter Efron in all things, and I like the idea of this drama so long as it goes in some weird directions, not Five People You Meet In Heaven sentimental crap. I know Crew is more than possible of taking material and making it better

Weekend Report: 'Bruno' Not as Brawny as 'Borat'
13 July 2009 3:08 PM, PDT
| Box Office Mojo
| See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news
»
Bruno strutted to the top of the box office but wasn't quite in vogue, leading to a relatively slow July session. Overall, the weekend was the least attended for the timeframe in 17 years and down five percent from last year.
Striking approximately 3,400 screens at 2,756 venues, Bruno donned a solid $30.6 million, which was less than I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, another "gay panic" comedy from July 2007. Despite a higher-grossing debut, Bruno didn't make a statement like Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen's previous mockumentary. That picture opened to $26.5 million at only 837 theaters, and then made $28.3 million in its second weekend, when it expanded to 2,566 theaters, culminating in a $128.5 million final tally.
Breaking the weekend gross down, Bruno had one of the steepest Friday-to-Saturday drops on record, slipping 39 percent from $14.4 million on Friday to $8.8 million on Saturday. For the most part, movies with such Saturday slides do not hold up well in the long run,
