Dennings to join Thor

24 November 2009 4:18 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Kat Dennings has been announced as a late addition to the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Marvel’s Thor.

The news was leaked when Natalie Portman let slip in an interview with MTV that she was looking forward to working with her “good friend” and “amazing actress” Dennings in the new project. Portman, however, was not forthcoming in details regarding the role that the Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist star would take. Whilst it has been announced that Portman will play Jane Foster, nurse to Thor’s human alter-ego Donald Blake, and that Jaimie Alexander is set for the role as the Asgardian warrior Sif, there has been no official confirmation as to the part Dennings will play in the project.

Although speculation has been rife that Dennings could be playing any number of parts ranging from a rogue Norse goddess through to the younger sister of Portman’s character, »

Idris Elba Joins the Cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor as Heimdall

19 November 2009 9:54 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

So it looks like Marvel plans to continue to drop hints about what to expect storywise in the Thor movie by announcing more casting and giving us a taste of who the most important characters are. THR's Heat Vision reports today that Idris Elba has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Thor. Elba will play Heimdall, the guardian of the mythical world of Asgard, who stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from intruders. Boy does he look like a badass guardian. But does this mean Asgard going to be attacked at some point in the movie? Is that the hint Marvel is dropping here? Any more revelations? Idris Elba previously starred in Obsessed, The Unborn, RocknRolla, Prom Night, American Gangster, and he also appears on "The Office". He's a fine actor and I'm glad to see him join this cast as well. I »

7 November 2009 2:23 PM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

Another film we caught a promo trailer for was And Soon The Darkness, a really stylish film from director Marcos Efron that features two of the hottest babes in horror, Amber Heard (Mandy Lane, Zombieland, The Stepfather) and Odette Yustman (Cloverfield, The Unborn). Set in Argentina, the remake tells the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them goes missing, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized. The original was set in France and tackled the idea of how vulnerable a stranger in a strange land can be. Adriana Barraza and Karl Urban also star. Check out new details and first stills below! »

Amber Heard: In Step With the Horror Genre

15 October 2009 3:29 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Being chased and terrorized by a rage-driven psychopath around and under a house would seem to be a pretty stressful situation, even if it’s just for a movie. But for Amber Heard, the young actress who co-stars in Screen Gems’ new remake of The Stepfather, it was all in a day’s work. “You know, it’s just like any aspect of my job,” she says of taking part in such cinematic mayhem. “It could be very weird, but because it’s so weird so often, it becomes very, very…unweird, if that makes sense. My job is funny that way, in that I come to set every day and there are plenty of crazy things going on. That’s not really one of them that sticks out.”

This statement won’t surprise anyone who has been following Heard’s career over the last few years. After attracting a »

The Book of Eli Theatrical Trailer

27 September 2009 6:22 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Simply judging from the looks of this latest trailer for the Hughes Brothers’ The Book of Eli, we might have our hands on the best post-apocalyptic action film since Mel Gibson took the leather gear off in the 90s.

The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis, centers around Washington’s lone hero Eli, who has in his possession what looks like the biblical book of Genesis, on his quest to reform society. Standing in his way is a small town villain in the form of Carnegie (Gary Oldman), who won’t stop until the book is in his possession.

At this point, The Book of Eli has enough stacked in its favor that I’ll be there opening day. I love this genre, and with Oldman in the villain role, you can do no wrong, and Washington is a proven edgy hero. The Hughes Brothers »

The Ghost Rides A Second Time

24 September 2009 12:41 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Columbia Pictures fills up its schedule, putting together a sequel for the Nicolas Cage 2007 film Ghost Rider. In talks to pen the script is scribe David Goyer who previously worked on The Dark Knight and The Unborn. Actor Nicolas Cage will be reprising his role as the motorcycle riding demon, no word at all if Eva Mendes will be adding onto the cast list. Through a spokesperson, Goyer said he hadn’t signed on yet. But plans are already under way to base the sequel on a “Ghost Rider” script written years ago by Goyer (Variety).

The sequel adds onto the never ending list of Marvel properties that continue to make their way onto the big screen. Currently several projects are in development which include Captain America, Ant-Man and The Avengers. Twentieth Century Fox at the moment is in the middle of rebooting their own Fantastic Four franchise while DC »

Marvel Still Working on Ghost Rider 2, Daredevil, & Silver Surfer

23 September 2009 2:54 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

An interesting update has hit Variety today regarding Marvel and specifically some of the upcoming comic book projects Fox has in the works - such as Ghost Rider 2. The article primarily mentions that Columbia Pictures has begun moving forward with the Ghost Rider sequel and brought on David Goyer to create the story and supervise writers (even though Goyer said "he hadn't signed on yet"). Goyer last directed The Unborn but is probably better known for writing the Blade trilogy as well as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The plans are to apparently base the sequel on a Ghost Rider script that Goyer wrote years ago. The article also includes a mention about other projects Fox has in the works, including: Fantastic Four with writer Michael Green and producer Akiva Goldsman, a Wolverine sequel and several X-Men spinoffs, and a new version of Daredevil and a Silver Surfer film »

FlashForward: David S. Goyer’s 5-Year Plan

3 September 2009 5:41 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

ABC’s upcoming new show, FlashForward, will be premiering on September 24th and it’s based on the 1999 novel by Robert J. Sawyer where all of humanity passes out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds.  During the blackout, everyone gets a glimpse of their future, 6 months down the road.

Screen Rant’s Kofi Outlaw has seen most of the premiere episode and calls it “Lost meets 24.”  (I presume that means they have cell phones whose batteries never die!)

But what I didn’t know was that David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, The Unborn, Ghost Rider) says he has a long-term plan for the show…

His plan includes a story that can last for 5 full seasons, yet he’s not without back-up plans.  The story can be shortened to a mere 3 seasons or even lengthened beyond 5, depending on the marketability (ratings) of the show.

It’s fascinating that he at least has plans… »
