The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Hfpa) announced their nominees for the 67th Annual Golden Globes and before I comment on the nominees, I first have to explain something about the Globes. The Globes are not really an indiciator of the Oscars. Critics lists and awards from various guilds are far better predictors because the Globes are ultimately bought and paid for by the studios. The Oscars are as well to some extent, but the Globes are just ridiculous. However, it doesn’t mean they’re not a lot of fun and that they’ll take chances Oscar won’t.
But the big movie nominee was a safe choice with Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air grabbing six nods followed by Rob Marshall’s Nine, which racked up five. But looking through the nominees, there are some absolutely bizarre inclusions: Julia Roberts for Duplicity (this one makes sense when you »

Chicago – The nominees for the the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards were revealed today and the George Clooney dramedy “Up in the Air” and the Daniel Day-Lewis musical “Nine” led the way in the film categories with six and five nominations, respectively, while acclaimed new show “Glee” led the way in the television category with four nominations.
Films with more than three nominations include “Avatar,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Invictus,” “It’s Complicated,” and “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire”. Double nominees include “(500) Days of Summer.” “Brothers,” “Crazy Heart,” “The Informant!,” “Julie & Julia,” “The Last Station,” and “Up”. As for snubs, the highly acclaimed “An Education” and “Where the Wild Things Are” only registered with one nomination a piece and “The Road” was completely unrecognized.

The folks over at Cinematical were good enough to be up early this December morning to update folks in real-time with the 67th Annual Golden Globe nominations. Things are officially gearing up to the Awards season early next year, all leading up to the “big ones” – the Oscars. The Golden Globes are arguably the second-biggest awards out there, and we have this year’s nominations right here.
I’d say for the most part that the nominations are quite predictable. Not that that’s a bad thing – if it’s clear to all what the best movies, performances, scores etc are, then it should result in them getting nominated (that’s the way it Should work, anyway – hey-oh! ). Before I get to some of my thoughts on who’s been nominated, check out the nominations list yourself, again thanks to Cinematical (as well as GoldenGlobes.org):

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced its nominations this morning for the 67th annual Golden Globes Awards. "Up in the Air" received six nominations including Best Picture, Drama, while "Nine" received five noms including Best Picture, Comedy (huh? "Nine" is definitely Not a comedy!).
"Avatar," "Inglourious Basterds," "The Hurt Locker," and "Precious" are also Best Picture, Drama contenders, while "(500) Days of Summer," "The Hangover," "It's Complicated," "Julie and Julia" complete the Best Picture, Comedy list.
Sandra Bullock received two acting nominations. One for drama for "The Blind Side" and one for comedy for "The Proposal." She's really having a terrific year!
Meryl Streep is also having a terrific year. She's a double contender for Best Actress, Comedy or Musical for "Julie and Julia" and "It's Complicated."
I enjoyed "Nine," but didn't love it, and I suspect many voters felt the same. The nominees from the film are certainly deserving especially Marion Cotillard (Best Actress, »

Ricky Gervais is hosting the 2010 Golden Globes on January 17, 2010 and the nominations have been released. There are the usual suspects, like Michael Emerson for Lost, Jeremy Piven for Entourage, Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock, Tina Fey for 30 Rock and Mad Men, Dexter and Big Love have all been nominated as well.

Below is a list of all of the nominations. I've even thrown in the movie nominations so you don't have to go searching elsewhere for them.

Veteran actor David Warner has spoken about his role in the new Doctor Who animation Dreamland, which features the David Tennant incarnation of the Time Lord.
Warner played Ed Dillinger (aka Sark/Master Control Program) in 1982's cult sci-fi classic Tron and voiced the villainous Ra's Al Ghul in the Batman and Batman Beyond animated series.
He's also starred in films such as The Omen and Titanic and next year is set to reprise his role as Kenneth Branagh's father in BBC series Wallander.
In Dreamland - which is on the BBC website and airs on BBC2 this Saturday, December 5 - the 68-year-old voices the evil, cockroach-like alien Lord Azlok, as you can see in our exclusive sneak preview images below.
Warner (pictured right), a former Warwickshire actor, revealed it's not his first voyage into the world of Doctor Who, as he's previously done audio adventures playing the Time Lord. »

Broadcasters are taking the safe option by commissioning literary adaptations that guarantee an audience
"In these difficult times there's a little more security in adapting a book than in commissioning an original script," says Liza Marshall, head of drama at Channel 4 and soon to be head of film and TV at Ridley Scott's production company, Scott Free. "Although you couldn't run your drama department purely from the bookshop, books do have an epic scope and a strong author's vision which can really help a channel in tough times."
The rest of the TV industry seems to agree. The next six months sees the small screen looking like a branch of Borders. Sky1 is filming Chris Ryan's Sas thriller Strike Back for transmission next April, alongside a version of Terry Pratchett's Going Postal. The second of its Martina Cole adaptations, The Graft, goes out next summer, while David Morrissey »

A Single Man, The Weinstein Company's Oscar bet this year, is a fascinating study of characters. Based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood, it depicts one day in the life of George, a middle-aged gay Englishman who works as a college professor in Los Angeles and whose lover, Jim, has recently died. - - -
- - - Playing Kenny, "a pretty-boy college student who appears to be stalking George (Colin Firth)", is Nicholas Hoult. During its La Press day, tMF was able to secure a phone interview with the young British actor. It must have been a tiresome day for Nicholas Hoult, but I never noticed, even once, any indication. Hoult was quite charming, seriously answered all my questions and even volunteered to add a few tidbits or two. What's so interesting is that he's very courteous, unlike some of the young actors based in Hollywood.

Star power seems to be a necessity for comic-book movies. The trend started back in 1978 with Superman: The Movie, when the formula was to find the right actor to portray Superman (as opposed to finding a star and putting him in the costume) and then surround Superman with big name talent—in that case Marlon Brando (Jor-El) and Gene Hackman (Lex Luthor).
It worked, and it worked brilliantly.
Nowadays there seems to be a greater emphasis on ensuring that all the major players — even the lead — have some name recognition, and to that end, Kenneth Branagh is apparently about to cast some big-name talent in his comic book-to-feature adaptation of Marvel's Thor. AICN reports that actor Matthias Schweighofer (Valkyrie) has revealed to GQ magazine that he is in the running for a role in Thor and that both Jude Law and Robert De Niro have already joined the cast. »
