Famed Hollywood writer Aaron Sorkin has stepped into the director’s chair. Sorkin will make his directorial debut with the new film, Molly’s Game. The first trailer for the film was released earlier today. Molly’s Game stars Jessica Chastain in the lead role, and is based on the memoirs of Molly Bloom, off of which Sorkin wrote the screenplay. Aaron Sorkin directs for the first time with Molly's Game, a true story of poker, celebrities, and scandal...

It’s easy to say life is little more than a high stakes game. Who wins, who loses, and who gets to take home that pot at the end of the rainbow. For many years, the real winner was Molly Bloom, the subject of Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut, Molly’s Game. For almost a decade she ran an exclusive poker escape for the rich and powerful. It all came crashing down in the end, but now that she is being played by Jessica Chastain in a Sorkin film, it appears Molly will be coming out on top again.

Sorkin, who won an Oscar for The Social Network’s screenplay and has also written the screenplays for Steve Jobs, A Few Good Men, and Moneyball, appears ready to craft »

A Movie About the Legendary Life of Lucille Ball Is in the Works, and It Already Has Its Star

8 August 2017 1:20 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Image Source: Everett Collection Lucille Ball is one of the most legendary actresses from Hollywood's golden era. Not only was she a pioneer for independent women to carve their own career paths and not take no for an answer, but she was also an insanely talented actress whose show, I Love Lucy, is still beloved to this day. It should come as no surprise, then, that a biopic about her life and career is in the works at Amazon. While we've always been apprehensive about movies surrounding Lucy (she's so iconic that it's almost best to leave her story alone), we're actually pretty excited for this one. Not only is the authorized project, titled Lucy and Desi, being produced by Lucille and Desi Arnaz's children, Lucie and Desi Jr., but it already has its star! Keep reading to see everything we know about the biopic so far. The Story »

Lucille Ball movie with Cate Blanchett pressing ahead

7 August 2017 2:17 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

David Crow Aug 8, 2017

Amazon Studios will produce a movie about Lucille Ball of I Love Lucy fame with Cate Blanchett and Aaron Sorkin attached.

Amazon Studios is really starting to leave its mark on moviemaking in 2017. Just this year, they produced The Lost City Of Z and The Big Sick - and they’re already looking toward the future. Generally speaking, casting a screen legend like Cate Blanchett as another one named Lucille Ball seems like a smart bet.

Deadline broke the news that Amazon Studios has acquired the film rights to Lucy And Desi, a long simmering film production that has Blanchett attached to play Ball, the star of I Love Lucy. The project has long been of interest, not least of all because in addition to its Oscar winning star, it also has a screenplay by another Oscar winner, Aaron Sorkin of The Social Network, Moneyball, and Steve Jobs fame. »

Casting is now underway for the actor to play Ball’s husband and screen partner Desi Arnaz. Deadline reports that Javier Bardem is an early contender. Sorkin will be handling screenplay duties and using the memoirs written by the two subjects for inspiration. The couple’s children, Lucie Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz Jr., are involved in the authorized biopic as producers.

The news comes just ahead of a busy fall for both Blanchett and Sorkin. »

‘War Machine’ Review: Brad Pitt Stars In a Shrewd Blend of Wartime Drama and Workplace Satire

21 May 2017 9:00 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

A movie called “War Machine” may not sound like a workplace satire, but that’s the savviest element in David Michod’s tone-shifting character study, in which Brad Pitt plays a naive army strategist lost in the fog of a conflict with no end in sight. As U.S. General Glen McMahon, Brad Pitt plays an overconfident military man tasked with winding down the war in Afghanistan, only to get trapped by hubris and vanity that have nothing to do with the mission. His greatest enemy is the job itself.

This might sound familiar. Set in 2012 in the midst of an election campaign, “War Machine” draws from Michael Hastings’ nonfiction “The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Story of America’s War in Afghanistan,” which recounts the pileup of dysfunctions surrounding his travels with General Stanley McChrystal, whose vocal opposition to the Obama Administration’s desire to wind down the »
