Enjoyable, Albeit Middle of the Road Simpsons,
24 September 2016 | by See all my reviews

Pranks and Greens is a great Simpsons episode with a well written plot and plenty of very funny scenes. It's certainly enjoyable as we see Bart looking up to a fellow prankster, Andy Hamilton, who was a legend back in his Springfield Elementary days. Andy is given a very impressive arch, as we see him back in his glory days and later as an unemployed young adult. It gave guest star Jonah Hill a lot to work with, rather than merely playing himself for a cameo.

The side story is very weak, Marge struggling to make the Simpsons a healthy family never really takes a interesting turns. It is all very filler. I think it would have worked out as a better episode if they had stretched out the main story.

The last ten minutes are the best, as we are taken in to Krusty Studios, it's when the episode starts to have fun, move quicker and really deliver on its potential. The dynamics between Andy and Krusty were terrific and its what brought this from a seven to an eight for me.

It shows that putting a guest star in a lead role, playing a character, is normally a much more entertaining route to go in, I believe its more fun for the writers, the actors and the viewers. Funny and enjoyable, Pranks and Greens may not be groundbreaking Simpsons, but its a good watch.

Bart is determined to seek out the best prankster in Springfield Elementary's history in order to learn about his legendary practical jokes.
