Trivia

In Mark Poirier's original screenplay of Goats (2012), the lead character played by Graham Phillips searches for a special Christmas gift for his friend "The Goat Man" played by David Duchovny. In a scene at Smash Records in Washington DC. he finds the gift , and it's a cd of The Squids "4 Floors Of Whores - The Squids Collection" In the original script Graham Phillips line is something like "Oh wow, The Squids 4 Floors Of Whores cd, I can't find it anywhere on the internet." He holds it up and buys it and later in the movie gives it to The Goat Man. See more »

Goofs

Where's the 'tofurkey'? There is a big build up for the appearance of 'tofurkey' on Wendy's Thanksgiving dinner table out on the terrace but it never makes it on camera. What an odd omission? I know 'Oz' the asst. property master who prepared the Thanksgiving meal baked half a dozen 'tofurkey' rolls in the craft service trailer and at least 4 were carved for the scene and delivered to the table as part of the action. Quotes

[first lines]
Ellis Whitman: Goat Man took me on my first trek when I was eleven. Not long after that he taught me how to do bong hits. It doesn't matter where we go on these treks, we just wander. Goat Man says it's the journey that counts, which I know is cliche. In a few days I leave for the prep school my father went to. Goat Man's calling this my farewell trek. He says I should suck up as much of the Sonoran sun as I can, but he's the one doing most of the soaking.
Goat Man: Whew! You won't have all this at Gates ...

User Reviews

Brilliantly casted, nicely executed and a good story to boot
29 January 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Great cast with chemistry delivers an engaging performance of an coming of age tale. The story revolves around Ellis, a teenage boy trying to carve out his own life despite having the enormous weight of raising his new-age mother. His troubles are further compounded by his father figure, Goatman, a full blown stoner/gardener who seems mentally stuck at the age of 17. Be prepared to laugh out loud.

Set in Tucson, AZ, the movie also features some of the most beautiful images of the Sonoran Desert. No fake landscapes and plastic saguaros, Tucson's authentic glory is on display in this film. The feel of the town is real.

Although I appreciate many independent films, there are few I want to see over and over, and this is one that I follow from the big screen, to the cheap-theater, and all the way to blue-ray.
