Disappointing August 2017 Closed Out the Worst Summer Movie Season in Over 10 Years

20 September 2017 8:18 AM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

As the September box office attempts to get 2017 back on track*the month is currently up 14% compared to last year*the chapter ends on what was a dismal August 2017 at the domestic box office. August was the fourth month in a row to show a decline compared to the previous year, all of which contributed to the worst Summer movie season in over ten years, in which the total summer gross failed to top $4 billion for the first time since 2006. August 2017 wrapped up as the worst August in twenty years with calendar grosses delivering a combined $657.7 million from 225 movies, 35.5% behind last year's gross and failing to top $700 million for the first time since 2000. Thanks to the continued performance of Annabelle: Creation, which just topped $100 million domestically yesterday, the month did deliver a $100+ million earner, a feat that looked as if it might not happen not too long ago. The Dark Tower Blu-ray/DVD release date and bonus features

Kirsten Howard Simon Brew Sep 20, 2017

The Dark Tower is heading for its home release in the UK in December. Here are all the details you need...

Off the back of not very impressive reviews, the first film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower saga - starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey - struggled to gain much traction at the Us box office, only scrounging up $19.5m in its opening weekend. Whilst plans are still afoot for a television series based on the books, there are surely a few question marks over the planned film sequel to this particular movie.

Rick And Morty season 3 episode 8 review: Morty’s Mind Blowers

With season 3 being as excellent as it has been, the occasional goof-off episode doesn't hurt. Spoilers...

3.8 Morty's Mind Blowers

A major problem I had with season 2 is how so many episodes felt like goof-off episodes. There seemed to be little interest in developing the characters or multiverse in meaningful ways. Season 3 doesn’t have this problem; I mean, last week they convincingly built and destabilized an entire new society in 22 minutes. So, it’s okay that Morty’s Mind Blowers is a relatively incidental episode, content to pull off a bunch of good jokes and then close out.

It is a bit disappointing this takes the place of another Interdimensional Cable. Though it moves further and further away from it out of necessity, Rick And Morty’s foundation is built in part on Justin Roiland’s frantic, »

4.10 The Last Stand

And in the end, it was love that saved humanity. Love, and a generous helping of Star Wars allusions.

So where to begin? For the past four years, The Strain has been a capable and consistent horror series. It hasn’t broken into the cultural zeitgeist like The Walking Dead or become as conversation-starting as American Horror Story, but even though it flew under the horror radar a bit, The Strain always delivered compelling and intense storylines and heaped platters of wonderful, wonderful gore. And now, we must bid farewell to our heroes and the strigoi as the final battle with the Master is finally fought as a bunch of broken people save the always-somewhat-broken human race. »

Outlander season 3 episode 2 review: Surrender

3.2 Surrender

Sex scenes, like any other kind of scene in a TV drama episode, should be vehicles for expressing character. Unfortunately, they are usually the same, requisite formula that reveal little about the characters or the plot other than Yep, These Two People Are Having Sex.

In a pop culture age where more ways to watch TV drama exist — from premium cable to streaming services — this is slowly changing, as writers and directors create outside the rigid rules of network television and its Broadcast Standards and Practices. It's hard to imagine Outlander, a show that uses sex scenes in new and different ways — and, above all else, to express character — existing in an earlier TV time. It »

(Aotn) It has already been quite a year for Stephen King fans with the theatrical releases of both “The Dark Tower” and “It” and now we can anticipate the upcoming Hulu limited series “Castle Rock”. “Castle Rock” will be a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, it will combine the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.

Hulu has committed to a 10-episode first season and the project was developed for television by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, who serve as executive producers, along with J.J. Abrams, Ben Stephenson and Liz Glotzer. “Castle Rock” is from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and it is sure to be epic.

Idris Elba Doesn’t Think He’ll Ever Play James Bond

13 September 2017 1:55 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Not for the first time, British thesp Idris Elba has gone on record to debunk any rumors linking him with the James Bond franchise.

Speculation was rife that The Dark Tower actor would assume the 00 license from Daniel Craig in the not-so-distant future, particularly after the latter appeared to display some hesitancy about returning for the untitled Bond 25. Looking back with the benefit of hindsight, though, MGM’s radio silence coupled with Craig’s wry British humor (“I’d rather slit my wrists”) produced something of a storm in a tea cup; after all, the series stalwart has agreed to reprise as Ian Fleming’s gun-toting sleuth one final time.

What’s more, the Powers That Be have already gone ahead and reserved a November 2019 release date for Bond 25, leading to all kinds of rumors about what the next chapter could entail. Last we reported, Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve »

Can American Assassin End It's Reign of Terror at the Box Office?

12 September 2017 10:56 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

New Line Cinema's It remake gave the sagging box office a much-needed jolt after the worst summer season in 11 years, pulling in a massive $123.4 million, which even came in $6 million higher than the original estimate of $117.1 million. The tally easily set a new record for the highest September opening weekend in history, along with the highest debut for any horror movie in history, and provided even more proof that audiences are hungry for edgy R-rated fare. This weekend, Pennywise and The Losers Club will go up against three new movies opening in wide release, Lionsgate's action-packed adaptation American Assassin, Paramount's bizarre drama mother! and Open Road Films' thriller All I See Is You. None of these movies are expected to give It a serious run for the box office crown, with the movie easily expected to repeat atop the box office with $66.2 million.

Did You Catch This ‘Sleepwalkers’ Easter Egg in ‘It’?

Everything is connected in the Stephen King Universe. While this year’s The Dark Tower heavily played up the story’s connection to other King tales, loaded with direct references to everything from Cujo to The Shining, Andy Muschietti’s It didn’t quite take the same approach.
