What is more amazing than the movie is the process of how it came about. The Q&A after the Volunteer screening left me smiling as well as speechless. Set against the backdrop of Katrina this is a gritty story about a father and daughter. Not what you expect and the performances of the two will leave you touched. Not what they set out to produce and the actors formed the story. If Oprah doesn't buy this one she is out of the loop. Performances like Precious that are priceless. The movie has a mystical quality. At times I was wondering where it was going. Pulls together social commentary while portraying human emotion. Not a docu- drama.
