Storyline

Oliver's next target is Scott Morgan, a power executive who jacks up prices for electricity when people most need it. John Diggle suggests they go after the gang of bank robbers that recently wounded a police officer during a daytime heist. Oliver is not so keen but John isn't the kind of guy who gives up very easily. Oliver quickly identifies one of them as a high school acquaintance, Derek Reston - and learns that Reston may have turned to crime because of something Oliver's father did. Tommy meanwhile isn't having much luck with his hoped for romance with Laurel. He seeks Thea's advice. Flashbacks show Oliver's doubts about his survival on the island. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

When Tommy shows up at Laurel's office, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) sarcastically asks him if he will take her to Monte Carlo next. This is a reference to Monte Carlo (2011) in which she played a major role. See more »

Goofs

In previous episodes, Oliver has shown sufficient hacking skills to illegally transfer money to several recipients whose bank details he could not have known in advance. However, in this episode, he requires Felicity's help to do simple web searches. See more »

Quotes

Oliver Queen: My father made mistakes. He hurt people. When people are hurt, people are in trouble, they tend to make the wrong choices. Right, Derek? But those choices don't have to define you. They don't have to define who your family will be. Because there's always one moment when you can turn it all around. If my father had another chance, I think he'd do things differently, but time ran out for him.
Derek Reston: How poetic. That doesn't help me get my house back, now does it?
Oliver Queen: No, it doesn't. No, all I can offer you ...

It Just Keeps Getting Better!

This episode is the best one of the show so far, and brings a decidedly different tone to "Arrow". The antagonists here are not as black-and- white as the corrupt businessmen Oliver has been taking down. For the first time, Oliver deviates from the list, and it's a direction Diggle is intent on leading him down. We are beginning to see the makings of a hero in the hooded vigilante.

While the aforementioned criminals must be dealt with, of course, they took a backseat this week to the exploration of relationships between the characters. For the first time, Ollie's interactions with Thea and his mother seem truly believable, and they play off each other nicely.

"Legacies" did a fantastic job of making me actually care about the characters I've been watching on the screen for the past few weeks. Tommy Merlyn finally got some decent screen time here, and I've gone from finding his character shallow and annoying to enjoying his presence and looking forward to his appearances.

After last week's great "Damaged", I thought the standard had been set, and I wasn't sure how much better the show could get. "Legacies" eliminates any concerns I had about the future of "Arrow"; it is easily the best episode thus far, and sets the bar even higher for what is already turning out to be an amazing series.
