Mark Hamill initially believed Han Solo was the lead in Star Wars

46 minutes ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Mark Hamill was once under the impression that Han Solo was the main character of Star Wars.

Recounting the audition process he undertook for the original 1977 movie, Hamill, who will be returning once again for this year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, once believed that Han Solo was the film’s main character and that Luke would be his sidekick.

It was only after accepting the part and finally receiving the script that he learned that he would be starring in the film as Luke Skywalker. Apparently it was the film’s initial title that gave it away, as he explains in a recent interview with StarWars.com.

“But when I finally got the part and they said they were sending the script over, I was living by myself in a one-bedroom on the beach in Malibu. It was before I was married. And I get the script and I sit down, »

Pacific Rim 2 Poster Has John Boyega Ready for War

1 hour ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The long-awaited Pacific Rim Uprising is finally coming, and we have the poster to prove it. Universal and Legendary Pictures have just released the first poster for Pacific Rim 2, officially titled Pacific Rim: Uprising, and it is pretty awesome. The image features John Boyega's Jaeger pilot suited up and ready for battle, standing in front of one of the brand new Jaegers from the movie, Gypsy Avenger.

John Boyega shared the poster for Pacific Rim: Uprising to his Twitter account, saying "next up!" Even though he is still going to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi before the Pacific Rim sequel arrives in theaters, he probably still has some work to do one Uprising. So he could mean that is the next movie he has to work on. Either way, the poster is here and it is a pretty solid way to help kick off the marketing campaign for the movie. »

Has Rey’s Connection To The Prequel Trilogy In The Last Jedi Been Revealed?

2 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Of all the question marks hanging over the current series of Star Wars movies, probably the most hotly-contested is the mystery of Rey’s origins. The various theories about where Daisy Ridley’s heroine comes from range from the highly plausible – she’s Luke or Obi-Wan’s daughter – to the downright head-scratching – she’s possessed by the ghost of Palpatine (or something).

Of course, we still don’t have any concrete answers, and likely won’t for some time, but a new rumour has now been bandied about and it’s pretty compelling. In a recent video, YouTuber Mike Zeroh discussed his latest theory, which puts forth the idea that Rey has a major connection to the prequel trilogy, in that her character is a continuation of an important concept introduced back in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.

“We heard a couple of months ago that director Rian Johnson inserted prequel »

How Does Rey Connect to the Prequel Trilogy in Star Wars 8?

4 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Not much has been confirmed about Star Wars: The Last Jedi at this point. But it is known that the movie contains one of the biggest surprises ever seen in a Star Wars movie. It's a moment that is said to trump that one time, way back in Empire Strikes Back, when Darth Vader told Luke Skywalker the truth about his real father. Impossible? Perhaps. But some new intel has been leaked with just three months to go until Star Wars 8 is in theaters. And it claims the big shock is directly tied into the Prequel Trilogy, which kicked off with The Phantom Menace in 1999. And that Rey is front and center in this scandal.

Turn back now, as there will be spoilers ahead. It is being stated quiet loudly this morning that Rey is directly connected to the events seen in the Star Wars prequels. Which will be interesting, »

First ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Reactions Suggest You Can Breathe Easy

5 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

With apologies to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Steven Spielberg’s “The Post,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest and, obviously, “Geostorm,” the film we’re most intrigued by for the rest of 2017 is “Blade Runner 2049.” In part, of course, it’s because it’s the long-awaited sequel to one of the most beloved and influential sci-fi movies of all time, Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner.

First Pic For Alex Garland’s Annihilation Surfaces From Area X; Director Teases “Strange, Dream-Like” World

5 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Area X is not your average patch of American land.

Over the years, no less than 11 expeditions have crossed the border into Jeff VanderMeer’s preternatural territory, only to return with strange illnesses or crippling cancer. Assuming they returned at all. Undeterred by this horrible track record, the Powers That Be mount an all-female 12th expedition to Area X, featuring a team comprised of an anthropologist, surveyor, biologist, and psychologist.

That is, in a nutshell, the elevator pitch of Annihilation, VanderMeer’s literary trilogy-starter that’s headed for the big screen under the watchful eye of Alex Garland (Dredd, Ex Machina). Pegged for a release in February of 2017, Garland’s adaptation has tapped an all-star cast headed up by Natalie Portman, who can be seen getting up close and personal with the bizarre wildlife in EW’s first-look still.

On board to play the curious biologist, Portman will be flanked by Jennifer Jason Leigh, »

Box Office Crisis: Movie Theaters Try to Dig Out From Dismal Season

6 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When “It,” the adaptation of Stephen King’s best-selling novel about a child-eating clown, debuted earlier this month, B&B Theatres pulled out all the stops. It had ticket takers greet customers in yellow raincoats while handing out red balloons, both images that are featured prominently in the film’s poster. The cinema also offered a special “It”-themed drink, dubbed the Pennywise, a reference to the movie’s villain, made with vodka, rum and peach schnapps.

“It’s showmanship,” says Brock Bagby, vice president of programming and business development at B&B. “It’s about selling tickets. You have to make it an event.”

People turned out in droves, powering the horror hit to a massive $123.4 million opening weekend at the domestic box office. But the movie’s success is an anomaly. Audiences have been largely Awol for much of the year, sending summer ticket sales to their lowest levels in two decades and raising alarms »

Mark Hamill Admits To Being Intimidated By His Star Wars Return

6 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

By this stage in the game, Mark Hamill is practically synonymous with the Star Wars franchise.

Despite a lengthy absence from Lucasfilm’s prized series, during which time George Lucas and Co. launched the widely derided prequel saga, Hamill appeared briefly in The Force Awakens two years ago, when it was revealed that his Jedi Master had been hiding on the remote backwater planet of Ahch-To.

Fast forward to 2017, and with The Last Jedi looming on the horizon, the series mainstay spoke at length with StarWars.com about slipping back into the Skywalker robes, the wonderfully extravagant Canto Bight, and the sheer scope and scale of Rian Johnson’s long-anticipated sequel. And though one might assume that Mark Hamill was beside himself with excitement leading up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the veteran actor admitted to feeling intimidated and indeed terrified by his Star Wars return.

How Empire Strikes Back Kept Its Biggest Secret from Leaking

6 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Without question, The Empire Strikes Back doesn't just have one of the biggest shockers in the Star Wars saga, it has one of the greatest reveals in perhaps all of cinema. Back in 1980, when the movie was released, it hit with the force of an atomic bomb, because no one saw it coming. The cast and crew were able to keep it a secret. And the truth never leaked. Surprising, the same can be said about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It is rumored to have an even bigger surprise. And while some fans have tried to guess, it has yet to be revealed or leaked. Perhaps that's because director Rian Johnson utilized some of the old tricks learned on the set of Empire. How did Mark Hamill and team keep it under wraps the first time around? It wasn't easy, but it was smart.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi To Show Luke In A Way That He’s “Never Been Seen Before”

8 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Luke Skywalker has seen better days.

Last we checked in on Mark Hamill’s Tatooine farmboy, he had helped conquer the Galactic Empire and restore peace and prosperity to Lucasfilm’s galaxy far, far away. But after his capricious nephew, Ben Solo, ruined any hopes of a Jedi Academy, Luke retreated to the safety of Ahch-To, and has spent the majority of time between Jedi and The Force Awakens in a state of exile – until Daisy Ridley’s Rey shows up out of the blue with lightsaber in hand, that is.

And that’s where Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins. With the vulnerable Resistance still licking its wounds from the battle for Starkiller Base, not to mention the fact that the First Order has beefed up its arsenal quite considerably under the command of Supreme Leader Snoke, our heroes need Luke Skywalker now more than ever.

Leaked Description Of New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Surfaces

19 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Have Disney and Lucasfilm chosen October 9th to be the day in which they unveil the full-length trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Mark Hamill certainly thinks so – or at least, he did, before pulling his Tweet offline last week. To date, there’s still been no confirmation from either studio that early next month is when we’ll see the new preview, but as the radio silence continues, speculation is quickly mounting.

Here to add even more fuel to the fire now is a leaked description of the trailer which first surfaced on 4chan (and has since been deleted) before being picked up by the one and only Mike Zeroh. Yes, we know, that’s a name which causes many eye rolls and groans amongst the Star Wars faithful, and as always, you’ll certainly want to take all this with a grain of salt. For those interested, »

New Star Wars 8 Trailer Description Leaks?

21 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Some of you just can't help yourself. Despite Mark Hamill teasing a new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer drop in just a few short days, you all want to know right this very second exactly what it will show, and how much Rey vs. Kylo Ren action you'll be getting. Well, not much if we're to believe the latest leak. Supposedly someone has seen the very short second trailer for Star Wars 8. And there aren't any big spoilers revealed, as expected. Except that, yes, perhaps Luke Skywalker really is wearing his dead father's Kyber crystal around his neck.

That seems impossible, as it has been officially confirmed that Darth Vader's old red lightsaber was destroyed when Lando blew up the Death Star at the end of Return of the Jedi. Perhaps Luke is wearing his own green lightsaber Kyber crystal. It is red in appearance. Which happens after a Sith Lord bends the crystal, »

Mark Hamill Teases A Massive, Opulent Canto Bight Sequence In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

21 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

One of the new locations of the Star Wars universe that we’ll get to see for the first time in The Last Jedi is Canto Bight. Effectively the opposite of Mos Eisley Cantina, which Obi-Wan memorably called a wretched hive of scum and villainy, Canto Bight is a lavish casino for the wealthiest folks in the galaxy. Thanks to the odd promo still or drip of information, we know that the setting will feature when Finn and Rose venture there on a mission for the Resistance, but that aside, we haven’t been told a whole lot about the place.

Still, from what little we’ve seen so far, it looks like director Rian Johnson and his team have pulled out all the stops with the set design on Canto Bight to make it look suitably ritzy and glamorous. In fact, in a new interview, Mark Hamill had plenty »

Alicia Vikander’s “Tomb Raider” easily topped social media buzz last week with 54,000 new conversations in the wake of the movie’s first trailer, according to media-measurement firm comScore and its PreAct service.

Warner Bros. released a teaser and poster on Sept. 18, followed by the action-packed trailer the next day, and a featurette on Sept. 20. The trailer made Croft’s mission clear: “Close the tomb once and for all.”

Roar Uthaug directed the movie based on a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Daniel Wu and Dominic West also star. The film is adapted from a popular video game. Angelina Jolie played the character in two movies — 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and the sequel, “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” The reboot opens on March 16.

Rian Johnson Has Literally Been Praying for the Success of ‘The Last Jedi’ While Promoting ‘Star Wars’ in Japan
