Three Fox films offer stunning VFX: “War for the Planet of the Apes,” which advances its visual effects technology over the last Matt Reeves installment featuring Weta Digital’s astonishing array of digital apes led by performance capture master Andy Serkis as Caesar, could win Weta’s Joe Letteri (“Avatar,” “King Kong,” “The Lord of the Rings”) his fifth Oscar. Another visually sumptuous sequel is Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049.” And Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” is also impressive.

Two Warner Bros. blockbusters, Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic “Dunkirk” and Patty Jenkins’ World War I superhero origin myth “Wonder Woman,

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Has a Record-Breaking Runtime

Star Wars: The Last Jedi's official trailer packs in so much action - Rey getting some intense lightsaber training from Luke, Scarface Kylo Ren struggling to decide if he should blow up his mother's ship, and even a close-up of Supreme Leader Snoke. So, how is the next installment in the new trilogy going to feature all of that in just one movie? Well, director Rian Johnson left himself more than enough time to get through everything. In fact, Episode VIII will have the longest runtime of any other movie in the Star Wars franchise. How 'bout that? While the upcoming film - which AMC's website has clocking in at two and a half hours - isn't even close to the longest runtime ever for modern cinema (that distinction goes to Titanic), it tops the other seven movies in the series. 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens came close

Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, and ‘Star Wars’: Why We’re Excited For the Last Few Films of 2017 (Screen Talk Episode 173)
Every year, we struggle to keep tabs on which movies have yet to screen and how they might shake up the conversations about top 10 lists, awards and the overall quality of cinema over a 12-month period. By summertime, we’ve already got a number of festival favorites and studio highlights to consider, but there’s always a lot more to come from the fall. But even after heavy-hitting festivals like Toronto and Telluride have come and gone, there are usually a few more unknown variables squeezing into the picture before the finish line. This year, that list includes Steven Spielberg’s “The Post,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread,” and Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” (It remains to be seen whether Ridley Scott’s scrambling to reshoot “All the Money in the World” sans Kevin Spacey will make its December deadline.) Star Wars: The Last Jedi Will Indeed Be The Longest Film In The Series

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be long.

How long, you ask? Try 150 minutes, as Rian Johnson has officially confirmed that his sequel will clock in around the two-and-a-half-hour marker.

News of The Last Jedi‘s bum-numbing runtime began circulating back in September, when a series of theater chains posted pertinent details ahead of time. Those listings were swiftly removed at the request of Lucasfilm, but the ‘damage’ was done: Star Wars: The Last Jedi was already being referred to as the longest Star Wars movie in history – longer than even The Force Awakens, which resurrected a dormant film giant with its 135-minute runtime.

John Hoey of Star Wars News Net has relayed a confirmation directly from the horse’s mouth – Rian Johnson, in this case, who was speaking at a press conference in France. Continue after the jump for the official word on The Last Jedi‘s super-sized runtime.
