Not as classic as 'TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL'.

'LITTLE EVIL': Three Stars (Out of Five)

The new horror comedy distributed by Netflix, through their streaming site. It was written and directed by Eli Craig, who also co-wrote and directed the 2010 cult classic horror comedy 'TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL'. The movie stars Adam Scott, Evangeline Lilly, Owen Atlas,Bridget Everett, Sally Field, Clancy Brown, Kyle Bornheimer, Chris D'Elia, Donald Faison and Tyler Labine (who also costarred in 'TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL'). The story revolves around a man that learns that his new 6-year-old stepson might be the antichrist. I found the premise interesting, and it's funny at times, but it's nowhere near as classic as 'TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL' is.

Gary Bloom (Scott) feels like he's married the woman of his dreams, Samantha (Lilly). The only problem is her 6-year-old son Lucas (Atlas). Lucas is quiet, but there's also something seriously off about him, besides the fact that he doesn't seem to like Gary at all. Gary soon suspects that Lucas is the antichrist, and that cultists have summoned him from hell. Gary then desperately tries to save his marriage, the child, and the world from Satanists and perhaps Satan himself.

The film has just about every horror movie cliché there is, from movies that deal with a child antichrist (most notably 'THE OMEN'). It's a hilarious idea for a film, I think, and the horror movie satire elements of it are where the film works the best. The somewhat dramatic relationship elements of the movie take themselves way too seriously though. It's cheesy, and not in a very funny way. The movie just seems unbalanced as a whole. Parts of it are good, but too many other scenes leave the overall experience of the film feeling like a disappointment. For me at least.
