Storyline

Despite IBM's raid on Cardiff Electric's clients, Joe has convinced those concerned, most specifically Gordon and Cameron, to continue with the PC project. The company is in a much weakened state because of the raid leading to staff layoffs, which an ill-equipped Gordon is responsible for issuing to the affected engineering staff, and the search for investors for the PC project. Joe and Bosworth have differing views on where those moneys can potentially come from. Gordon, with a much reduced staff, is working on the engineering issues Joe wants for the PC, namely that it now be portable and no heavier than 15 pounds. Gordon gets some help from an unexpected source, that help which has repercussions in that person's own professional life. Conversely, he faces a roadblock with another, that roadblock which he sees more clearly after a traffic incident. Cameron, basically living in her "office", is having a mental block in writing the BIOS code. She wanders around the Cardiff Electric ... Written by Huggo

Goofs

Gordon proposes splitting the motherboard in two and stacking them. He gives up on the idea when told that Intel and AMD is not going to redesign their motherboards for them. At the time Intel did not produce motherboards and AMD was simply a second source for processors (they did not have their own version of processor until years later). Motherboard design would have been one of the main tasks that Cardiff Electric needed to do. See more »

Things Really Heat Up
11 August 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

It appears for the time that Joe is all talk. Things are collapsing around him and the company. Now the new computer has to be the salvation. Numerous employees are let go with great bitterness abounding. Gordon and Cameron are out there trying to figure out what to do. As Joe wanders the streets in his sociopathic way, he goes into a stereo store that is going out of business. It dawns on him that portability is what needs to be broached. He needs to have his people invent a laptop computer. The problem is that the motherboard must be way too big. Gordon comes up with the idea of stacking two halves of a motherboard on top of each other, but he is shot down by his friend and co-worker who seems to always be telling him what he can't do (we also get a little shot of his attraction to Gordon's wife and family). There's also a nasty meeting with a potential investor who demands 80 percent of the profits if things work out. Meanwhile, Cameron goes out partying with some Gothy characters and while drunk, comes to some kind of realization. One little bit of criticism of the science is that people seem to have a lot of serendipitous moments.
