Storyline

Years ago, Krypton was about to explode and Kal-El was sent to Earth to escape that fate. However, his older cousin, Kara, was also intended to accompany the infant as his protector. Unfortunately, Kara was accidentally diverted into the timeless Phantom Zone for years before finally arriving on Earth decades later and found by her cousin who had grown into Superman. Years later, Kara Danvers is a young professional adrift in a thankless job until a fateful crisis ignites a sense of purpose using Kryptonian powers she had long hidden. Inspired, Kara decides to emulate her cousin's superheroic ways, only to find her foster sister introducing her to the secret Department of Extra-Normal Operations, dedicated to fighting alien menaces including those Kara inadvertently led to Earth. Now with such help, the Maid of Might takes her place as Earth's newest champion with new friends and enemies challenging her world. Written by Kenneth Chisholm (kchishol@rogers.com)

Trivia

In addition to acting, Melissa Benoist, Jeremy Jordan, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks David Harewood and Laura Benanti all can sing. According to Melissa Benoist, the idea of a musical episode became "a kind of a running joke" among the cast due to this. A crossover musical event was announced in 2016 between this show and The Flash (2014), starred by Grant Gustin who is also a singer. See more »

It's about a girl
14 September 2016 | by (Krypton) – See all my reviews

In case you couldn't tell from the title of the show, super girl is about a girl. She's a girl and she isn't a man. Even though you know this, the show will constantly remind you that you're watching a show in which the main character is a girl. Why? Because girls can do everything guys can do. If you didn't know this, you will be reminded. This a man's world and women have to work twice as hard as men to succeed and be respected. Don't forget that. This show will remind you if you do. Sometimes someone will criticize Super a Girl during the show. Obviously it's because she's a girl as there is no other reason to caution a girl or critique her. Super Girl makes sure to call these men out and make sure they know that she's a girl and is as capable, no, more capable than a man. Even superman. Anyway, one of the first villains is an obvious misogynist who hates women, (aka, a typical man). Don't worry, Super Girl puts him in his place and proves that girls can beat up men and save the world from sexism because they're fully capable of anything a a man is.

Anyway I think I've summed the show up and if you skimmed through here's all you need to know: the show is about a girl who like all girls is as capable and more capable than men.
