Fun, Visually Beautiful Entertainer but Too Silly At Times, 15 July 2017
Author: mb1456

Jagga Jasoos is an entertainer for sure. Especially the first half of the movie thrills and the movie in general has beautiful cinematography and very good music too. Ranbir Kapoor is excellent in both emotional moments and also dance moves. Katrina Kaif is a subtle actor, and is adorable when she absent-mindedly bangs into things or fall wherever she goes. Saswata Chatterjee as Ranbir's "father" and Saurabh Shukla as a ruthless intelligence officer are great in their support roles. The suspense is good and how the chase scenes are shot while the lead couple attempt to escape the bad guys either in India or Africa are done splendidly. There's a comical element to the confrontations that make it a lot of fun to watch and message about the evils of illegal weapon trade are shared across creatively and in a way children can understand too. Which is why it disappoints when the movie also indulges in few too silly scenes that affects negatively an otherwise very well directed story. How Ranbir or Katrina escape the clutches of Saurabh Shukla, his assassins or cops defy logic which is still fine as they are funny to watch but at times that amusement goes overboard. There's also a twist at the end which is well done and also reveals to us finally who the real villain is but frankly I'm not a fan of movies that hint a sequel is on its way or leaves us with question marks. So, there are some disappointments which surprised me as this is a Disney venture but Jagga Jasoos is still a fun, light-hearted popcorn movie.
