Storyline

A hardened, yet psychologically vulnerable, Swedish-born police detective in London struggles to deal with having witnessed the murder of his detective partner. He must come to terms with the loss whilst investigating her murder, helped (and sometimes hindered) by what he calls 'manifests' - the ghosts of both victims and criminals, including the shade of his partner.

Trivia

The character Thomas Cream - the "manifest" of John River's inner demons - is never given a name that is spoken. The poetic hallucination is named after (and closely resembles) nineteenth century serial killer Thomas Neill Cream, also known as the Lambeth Poisoner (and for a time rumoured to be Jack the Ripper), a reference to the character's unyielding attempts to poison River's mind. Nicola singing is the bomb
23 November 2015 | by See all my reviews

Nicola Walker singing. Of course I would love this. She always had too serious roles (not that this one isn't ) but never smiling. I was surprised how she lifts the room when she smiles. Stellan of course is a heavy duty actor so hard to fault him here. As usual British police shows are stories that you have to focus on. And their actors are all top notch and schooled yet they really convey real life quite well. Plus the solution is found in humanity not in the supernatural.

I love the supporting cast. the new partner is not to be dismissed as well.

There is a reason that British show own this genre. Always had.
