In the new comedy The Layover, two best friends discover the lengths they’ll both go to when a man gets between them. Directed by the incredibly talented William H. Macy, the film stars Alexandra Daddario, Kate Upton and Matt Barr. This sweet, and occasionally crude, comedy is a funny tale, and the film’s stars are very engaging. Let’s be honest, it would be impossible not to be a little taken with both Upton and Daddorio on-screen. Recently, we spoke to both... Read More »

William H. Macy landed at “The Layover” premiere at the Arclight Hollywood in Los Angeles on Wednesday with co-stars Alexandra Daddario, Kate Upton, Matt Barr, and Matt Jones.

In the road-trip comedy, directed by Macy, Daddario and Upton’s characters are on a flight heading to Fort Lauderdale that gets rerouted due to hurricane warnings. The best friends find themselves in St. Louis fighting over the same guy, played by Barr.

Macy told Variety that he’s a big fan of slapstick humor and romantic comedies. “I thought bringing my sensibilities to this might result in something good,” he said. “The script is unexpected, which is what I think comedy needs.”

Dicks Before Chicks: The Toxic Romantic Comedy Sub-Genre That Just Won’t Die

14 July 2017 8:58 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.

Sandwiched in between the summer’s biggest blockbuster offerings and superhero tentpoles are a pair of outrageously funny outliers — comedies that, for all their raunchy gags and wild behavior, center squarely on women and their friendships — in the form of “Rough Night” and the upcoming release “Girls Trip.” Although both films lean hard on their comedic trappings, often in the form of booze-fueled bad behavior from their leading ladies, they also both find unexpected heart and charm in their deeper explorations of the relationships between the very different women that populate them.

But even with films like “Rough Night” and “Girls Trip” hitting the multiplex with a welcome dose of girl power, it seems that even this summer isn’t immune from the most tired and toxic of lady-centric comedy tropes: the dicks before chicks sub-genre. »

Official Trailer for Comedy 'The Layover' Directed by William H. Macy

13 July 2017 5:03 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"I want him!" "Not this time..." Vertical Entertainment and DirecTV have released the first foul-mouthed trailer for a comedy titled The Layover, directed by actor-turned-filmmaker William H. Macy (his second film after Rudderless a few years back). The spunky comedy stars Alexandra Daddario and Kate Upton as best friends who get stuck in St. Louis on an extended layover. Along the way they meet and fall for the same guy, played by Matt Barr, and end up battling for his affection. The full cast includes Matt Jones, Molly Shannon, Kal Penn, and Rob Corddry. This looks mildly entertaining, but also very cliche and generic, but I'm not surprised. Don't really think this is for me, but I'm sure some people will love it. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for William H. Macy's The Layover, direct from YouTube: When their airplane is rerouted due to a hurricane warning, »

Somewhat surprisingly directed by William H. Macy, the movie centers on two besties, who find themselves competing for the same guy during an extended layover in St.

‘Office Christmas Party’s’ Rob Corddry Reflects on His Early Career

6 January 2017 10:00 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Before he was a “Daily Show” correspondent (from 2002 to 2006), or created the world of “Childrens Hospital” (starting in 2008), or took a dip in “Hot Tub Time Machine” (in 2010), Rob Corddry appeared in “The Manchurian Candidate,” an Off Broadway production (or, as Corddry remembers it, “more like Way, Way Off Broadway”) directed by John Lahr. The show was reviewed by Variety on July 18, 1994. Although he is listed in the cast, Corddry was not singled out in the review. The production from Art & Work Ensemble was panned, but Corddry survived and has enjoyed a varied career as an actor, writer, and producer ever since. After starring in Paramount’s “Office Christmas Party,” his upcoming projects include the crime thriller “Shimmer Lake” and two comedies: “The Layover,” directed by William H. Macy, and Ken Marino’s “How to Be a Latin Lover.”

Do you remember much about “The Manchurian Candidate”?
