Weekend Box Office: ‘Coco’ Takes Top Spot Over ‘Justice League’ & ‘The Disaster Artist’

By the end of today, Disney and Pixar's Coco will have won the weekend for the third weekend in a row, beating out competition from Justice League, The Disaster Artist, and Wonder. This places the animated delight in a somewhat elite club of 2017 titles that have held court for three weeks straight at the box office, alongside good movies (Split) and bad (The Fate of the Furious & The Hitman's Bodyguard). At the end of its run in theaters, Coco will likely be in the top 20 box office hits of 2017, in the same area as …

As The Last Jedi looms, Coco wins the box office and The Disaster Artist excels

Joining an illustrious list of movies that have topped the Us box-office for three straight weekends in 2017 (Split, The Fate of the Furious, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard), Disney-Pixar’s Coco managed one final week at the summit, before a certain little independent movie about disgruntled family members waving around glowsticks attempts to break records.

That movie is of course Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens on 4,100 theatres from December 14th, and is aiming at a figure north of $220 million for the weekend.

Until those monumental figures arrive, we’re left to cast our eyes over a moderate weekend at the Us box office, where Coco took its tally to $135.5 million with a weekend haul of $18.3 million.

That kept the day-of-the-dead success ahead of Justice League, which floundered with $9.6 million, for a total of $212 million in 24 days. To put that in perspective, the $300 million budgeted movie is currently running

The Rock Hypes Big Surprises for Fast and Furious Spin-Off

The Rock Hypes Big Surprises for Fast and Furious Spin-Off
Back in October, after months of rumors, Universal locked down a July 26, 2019 release date for their Fast and Furious Spin-Off, which will star Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, respectively. In doing so, the studio also pushed the release for Fast & Furious 9 from April 19, 2019 to April 10, 2020, which was at the heart of a "feud" between The Rock and Tyrese Gibson. During a new interview, Dwayne Johnson revealed that this spin-off was born through the natural process of his character elevating the franchise, teasing there will be plenty of surprises in store for fans.

"We've got a lot of surprises. It's been a challenging process because I feel like my intention from day one, when I first joined the cast, was to hopefully come in, have fun, and create a character that people will hopefully like and try to elevate the franchise. But in the process of elevating the franchise,

Infinity War Obliterates All-Time Trailer View Record

Infinity War Obliterates All-Time Trailer View Record
Marvel has done it again. The studio finally caved and released the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War yesterday, which fans have been begging for ever since the first footage was shown at D23 and San Diego Comic-Con over the summer. The trailer didn't disappoint and the excitement for the movie is at record-breaking levels. The Avengers: Infinity War teaser trailer was viewed more than 230 million times in the first 24 hours, smashing the previous record.

Prior to the release of the Infinity War trailer, the first teaser trailer for It had the record, with 197 million views in 24 hours. That means Marvel's upcoming Avengers 3 beat that by more than 33 million views. The Fate of the Furious, which is one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, is currently in the number three spot for its teaser trailer. But it's a distant third, as that trailer was viewed 139 million times in its first 24 hours.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle receives positive first reactions

In this climate of remakes, reboots, and exhaustive franchises, there was one film that appeared to be about as welcome as a lump of coal at Christmas, and that was the follow-up to 1995 Robin Williams family flick Jumanji. Only this time it would transfer the board game to the video screen, and star the omni-present Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, rather than the late, great Williams.

Well, it seems we needed to pack our cynicism away, because from initial early screening reactions, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle appears to be a winner.

Was expecting the worst but have to admit the new #Jumanji movie is a lot of fun. I’d even say it is one of the best “video game movies” ever made, maybe under only King of Kong, Scott Pilgrim, Edge of Tomorrow & Wreck It Ralph (none of which are adaptations).

Box Office: ‘Justice League’ Heading for Disappointing $95 Million Opening

Box Office: ‘Justice League’ Heading for Disappointing $95 Million Opening
Warner Bros.-DC’s “Justice League” is heading for a disappointing opening weekend of about $95 million at 4,051 North American locations, early estimates showed on Friday.

The first Friday estimates for “Justice League” are well under the studio’s recent guidance, which had been in the $110 million range. Should it come in at the top of current estimates, “Justice League” might finish the weekend in the same range as “The Fate of the Furious” — which launched in April to $98.7 million as the seventh-largest opening of the year.

The six films that have cracked the $100 million opening mark this year are Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” at $174.8 million, Disney-Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” at $146.5 million, Warner-New Line’s “It” at $123.4 million, Disney-Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” at $122.7 million, Sony-Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” at $117 million, and Warner-dc’s “Wonder Woman” at $103.3 million. A total of 48 titles have topped $100 million in North America in their debut frames.
