How Guillermo del Toro’s version of Pacific Rim 2 was originally going to end

The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 mecha-kaiju-brawler Pacific Rim has come a long way from its humble beginnings. The movie was originally helmed by Del Toro until he ultimately decided to step down. The reason for this seems to boil down to scheduling: due to Legendary Pictures being sold to Chinese company The Wanda Group, production needed to be delayed by nearly a year. It was then that Daredevil’s Steven DeKnight took over directorial duties. Since then, the film has undergone a massive makeover, which is clearly evident in the first trailer.

So, what would have Guillermo’s film have looked like? Speaking to Collider. Paul Austerberry — who served as production designer for the original Pacific Rim — revealed how Pacific Rim 2 was originally going to end:

“And then of course I think we finished in the west coast, I think it was San Francisco that we were gonna end up in.

Universal has crossed the $5 billion mark at the global box office for 2017

Universal has arrived at the significant mark of $5 billion at the global box office.

We reported last week that Warner Bros. had managed to eclipse the impressive $5 billion figure at the global box office, and now their rival studio, Universal, has also achieved the feat.

This is the second time in Universal’s 105 year history that they have reached $5 billion in a year and has managed to do so thanks to monster hits like The Fate of the Furious and Despicable Me 3.

The total includes $1.605 billion domestically and $3.398 billion internationally, helping Universal join Warner Bros. and Disney at the box office milestone.

The Fate of the Furious was Universal’s biggest draw with $1.23 billion worldwide, which happens to be the 11th highest grossing figure of all time and is only the sixth film to cross $1 billion at the international box office (outside North America).

Despicable Me also pitched in

Google Confirms Wonder Woman As Most-Searched Comic Book Movie Of 2017, But It Takes Home Top Prize

Wonder Woman is many things to many people – a modern feminist icon, an inspired tale of heroism, Gal Gadot’s launch pad to superstardom…you name it.

It’s also the highest-rated comic book movie of the year, according to Rotten Tomatoes, which placed Wonder Woman in the same bracket as Logan, Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming. But Patty Jenkins’ critically-adorned origins movie reigned supreme in another ranking: Google’s Year in Search for 2017.

And so, after crowning Avengers: Infinity War as the year’s most popular trailer, Google has revealed Wonder Woman to be the most-searched comic book movie of 2017. And we can’t say we’re surprised.

Back in June, the Patty Jenkins-directed period piece took the world by storm with its heartfelt story and instantly likable characters – the chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine was arguably worth the price of admission alone – while word of

Dwayne Johnson’s Busy Slate

Dwayne Johnson’s Busy Slate
One of the most in-demand actors in the biz, Dwayne Johnson’s slate begs the question, “How does he have the time?”

This past year, Johnson had starring roles in three major films, including the box office smash “The Fate of the Furious,” and he’s not slowing down. His IMDb page boasts more than 10 titles with projects ranging from his own “Fast & Furious” spinoff to the development of a “San Andreas” sequel to a rumored role in the “Suicide Squad” sequel.

One of Johnson’s biggest recent successes was Disney’s “Moana,” which became one of the year’s top-grossing films of the year, with more than $640 million at the box office. So it makes sense for sequel rumors to begin swirling.

“I am only interested in a ‘Moana’ sequel if the entire movie is solely based on my character Maui and that he has no friends except his tattoos and loves singing Lin-Manuel Miranda songs

Dwayne Johnson on His Rock-Solid Empire and Walk of Fame Honor

Dwayne Johnson on His Rock-Solid Empire and Walk of Fame Honor
It’s midnight and my phone rings. “Hey, E-Wag!” exclaims a deeply masculine, yet comforting and chipper voice.

It’s Dwayne Johnson. The pro wrestler-turned-superstar is calling from the car in Hawaii on his way to catch an overnight plane from the first stop of his “Jumanji” press tour to the next leg of the global gabfest in Paris.

Despite squeezing in a call during his only 45 minutes of free time, in transit, nonetheless, Johnson’s enthusiasm and focus is magnetic. His personal greeting to this reporter is perfectly in line with how he interacts with his 175 million followers on social media every day, and is evident of The Rock’s unique knack to form a genuine connection with everyone from fan from studio executive. His commitment to a simple phone interview is exemplary of how he attaches himself to each and every project — and there are a lot of them.

Robert Rodriguez explains Alita: Battle Angel’s anime eyes

While James Cameron messes about on Pandora, he has handed the directorial duties of his years-in-development Alita: Battle Angel over to Predators director Robert Rodriguez. When the trailer debuted the other day, amongst the most striking features of the sci-fi epic were the rendering of Rosa Salazar’s eyes.

Speaking to Empire about the trailer, Rodriguez addressed the creative choices behind giving Alita such prominent features:-

“It was always Jim’s intention to create a photo-realistic version of the manga eyes that we’re so accustomed to seeing. We really wanted to honour that tradition and see that look standing next to any human character. To have the right person to emote behind it was really essential. Her origins are in the film and you understand why she looks that way. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, we have some pretty big windows. You can see a lot going on in there!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi tracking $425 million global opening

Last Jedi Targets Massive $425M Worldwide Box Office Debut

Last Jedi Targets Massive $425M Worldwide Box Office Debut
There is no question that Disney's Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be be a massive box office hit, with analysts predicting a $200 million opening weekend at the domestic box office, but it's shaping up to be an even bigger hit overseas as well. A new report reveals that Disney and LucasFilm are eyeing a roughly $225 million overseas opening weekend for a global opening weekend haul of $425 million. While that is far from the current record, it is among the top 5 of all time, and one of the biggest reasons it won't contend for the record is that it won't be opening in China right away.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens held the all-time global opening weekend record of $529 million, including the domestic record of $248 million and the overseas debut of $281 million, for a year and a half, until Universal's The Fate of the Furious broke that record with an impressive $541.9 million,

By the end of today, Disney and Pixar's Coco will have won the weekend for the third weekend in a row, beating out competition from Justice League, The Disaster Artist, and Wonder. This places the animated delight in a somewhat elite club of 2017 titles that have held court for three weeks straight at the box office, alongside good movies (Split) and bad (The Fate of the Furious & The Hitman's Bodyguard). At the end of its run in theaters, Coco will likely be in the top 20 box office hits of 2017, in the same area as …

As The Last Jedi looms, Coco wins the box office and The Disaster Artist excels

Joining an illustrious list of movies that have topped the Us box-office for three straight weekends in 2017 (Split, The Fate of the Furious, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard), Disney-Pixar’s Coco managed one final week at the summit, before a certain little independent movie about disgruntled family members waving around glowsticks attempts to break records.

That movie is of course Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens on 4,100 theatres from December 14th, and is aiming at a figure north of $220 million for the weekend.

Until those monumental figures arrive, we’re left to cast our eyes over a moderate weekend at the Us box office, where Coco took its tally to $135.5 million with a weekend haul of $18.3 million.

That kept the day-of-the-dead success ahead of Justice League, which floundered with $9.6 million, for a total of $212 million in 24 days. To put that in perspective, the $300 million budgeted movie is currently running
