Pacific Rim Uprising director says a crossover with Godzilla and King Kong is a possibility

23 October 2017 1:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in September when it was first announced that Legendary Pictures were planning a shared universe between Godzilla and King Kong, rumours surfaced about the possibility of the studio bringing Pacific Rim’s Jaegers and Kaiju into the mix for a crossover of monster proportions.

Since then, we’ve heard nothing else about the prospect; however, Steven S. DeKnight, director of the upcoming sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, has revealed to Collider that talks have taken place and there is a chance that the crossover could become a reality.

“I won’t say there’s an Easter Egg but there’s been a lot of discussion about that possibility [of crossing over],” said DeKnight. “Look I think it would be fantastic to have the Pacific Rim universe join Legendary’s Monster Universe, it seems like a natural step. And part of the big overall plan after the third movie we’ve talked about is that could happen, »

Straight Outta Compton” made beaucoup bucks, earned strong reviews, and was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Not everybody liked it, of course — including Marion “Suge” Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records who was involved in a hit-and-run that left one man dead and allegedly began following an argument on the set of the N.W.A biopic. According to testimony that was just made public, he also threatened F. Gary Gray, the film’s director, both over the phone and via text message.

Meet Admiral Holdo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

20 October 2017 10:28 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi arriving in less than two months, the veil of secrecy is starting to be lifted, with a new image surfacing on The Ellen Show earlier this week of Laura Dern's new character, Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. While the actress couldn't reveal any details about her character, she did share an amusing and embarrassing story from her time on the set. Here's what the actress had to say, and what director Rian Johnson discovered when he was editing the film.

"I did have the greatest experience of my life. I felt like I was 7 years old again. Rian Johnson even keeps telling this really embarrassing story, our amazing director, about how when he got in the editing room and I do have weaponry in a scene, I have said that, he literally heard me making sounds. Because I had only done it in my room in childhood, »

Chinese box office is expected to see a strong boost when 2017's final numbers are tallied: up as much as 20% or more to Rmb 55B ($8.31B), according to the state media authority. The growth this year is spurred on by the massive takings of Wolf Warrior 2 and other hits like The Fate Of The Furious and the current Never Say Die. A ticketing fee factored into the totals doesn’t hurt either. The figures were unveiled by Sapprft Vice Minister, Zhang Hongsen, at a press… »

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women movie review: secret identities (#LFF2017)

16 October 2017 2:00 PM, PDT | | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

MaryAnn’s quick take… A sweet, romantic story about the polyamorous triad that created a beloved superhero… and about the power of comic books to speak to our inner lives. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast; desperate for stories about women

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Sorry, all you dudes who may have been expecting something salacious and debauched from a movie about the guy who created Wonder Woman for DC Comics. Cuz you’ve heard that he was into bondage and somehow managed to convince his wife to bring another woman into their lives and their bed: woo-hoo, threesome! But Professor Marston & the Wonder Women isn’t perverted, and it’s not pornographic, not even of the softest-core type. And this ain’t Fifty Shades of Grey, either. Thank Aphrodite. This is a sweet story about people »

Pacific Rim Uprising a “launching pad” for a shared universe

15 October 2017 3:00 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Following the release of the first trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising, Nerdist caught up with director Steven S. DeKnight to discuss the film, with DeKnight revealing that the plan is for the sequel to serve as a “launching pad” for an entire transmedia franchise featuring movies, spinoff films, comics and even an animated series.

“I’m certainly hoping so,” said DeKnight. “I think you’ll definitely probably get more comics. The plan was always to use this movie as a launching pad. If enough people show up to this, we’ve already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise] where you can go in many, many different directions. You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that’s the plan. And I would love »

Digital artist BossLogic is back at it again, this time giving us an idea of what Scott Eastwood could look like as Wolverine. Hugh Jackman has recently retired from the role of Logan after portraying the character 9 times, leaving the door open for the next actor to step in and play one of the best-known Marvel characters in history. When the time does come to find a replacement for Jackman, you can guarantee that there will be a monster of a debate about who played Wolverine better that will last for decades.

Scott Eastwood was recently at New York Comic-Con for the Pacific Rim: Uprising panel and he was asked about playing a superhero during an interview with ComicBook. Without hesitation, the actor blurted out "Weapon X... I mean Logan!" Talks of Scott Eastwood taking over on the role of Wolverine have been rumbling ever since Hugh Jackman announced »

Tyrese Calls The Rock Selfish as Fast and Furious Feud Intensifies

More proverbial shots were fired in the Fast and Furious Spin-Off feud between Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson today, with Tyrese Gibson revealing that he thinks The Rock is being "selfish," because this spin-off was moved forward while Universal pushed the Fast & Furious 9 release date by a full year to 2020, to make room for the spin-off. Here's what Tyrese Gibson had to say, clarifying that he's not mad The Rock actually got a spin-off, but because it caused the Fast & Furious 9 release date to be pushed.

"I don't know what they're doing. Everybody's coming at me, like I'm hating on Dwayne for his spin-off. I'm not. I just wish he was releasing it at a different time. Fast and Furious Spin-Off Eyes Iron Man 3 Director Shane Black

6 October 2017 2:14 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With Universal Pictures officially setting a release date for its long-rumored Fast and Furious Spin-Off, the studio reportedly also has its eye on a director as well. A new report claims that The Predator remake director Shane Black is among the directorial candidates Universal is interested in, although the studio reportedly won't be meeting with any directors until writer Chris Morgan, who has written all but the first two Fast & Furious movies, has delivered the script. With the spin-off's 2019 release date less than two years away, new details have also been revealed about the studio's approach to this project.

This report from Variety also reveals that Universal had always planned to shoot this spin-off in August 2018, to accommodate the extremely busy schedule of The Rock, a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson. This lead to the studio pushing the previously-announced Fast & Furious 9 release date by almost a full year, from April 19, 2019 to »
