The most original film you'll see this year and it's only February.
1 February 2017 | by (UK) – See all my reviews

I'd like to talk about how amazing of a feat it is that this film even exists; rather than talk about the hilariously original plot. If I were you, I'd go into this movie blind (That's what I did personally anyway). If you enjoy the blackest of comedies, this'll be right up your street.

I saw Prevenge at a screening in Newcastle upon Tyne, at Tyneside Cinema. The reason I went to see the movie initially was due to the fact Alice Lowe was going to be doing a live Q and A after the film. I've always been fascinated by live director Q and A's. I had the opportunity to check out a screening of Nina Forever followed by a Q and A session with the two writer/directors last year and it perked my interest.

The main aspect of production that blew me away was the fact that the idea only came about when Alice was 6 months pregnant. She managed to write, direct and star in the film 3 months before she gave birth. Even more incredibly, it was shot in only 11 days on a tiny budget. The determination and willpower of Alice is inspirational.

It's a beautifully shot film, very well acted and most importantly: funny! Obviously the movie isn't perfect, however it's a perfect dose of cynical, pitch black British comedy. The way it jumps between a serious murder taking place and then a one liner or pun makes you laugh out loud. You start to question your own morals after witnessing a man getting his manhood mutilated. It's simply written in a way that makes it hysterical.

Alice is currently working on her next project and has said that it's going to be even more crazy than Prevenge. I believe Prevenge is going to be released on February 9th, check it out!
