Blade in the McU, Fast & Furious star quitting franchise, Deadpool 2 casting and more – Daily News Roundup

It Would Be Cool

Ever since Marvel Studios reaquired the rights to Blade, there has been a lot of chatter about the Day Walker entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some capacity, with rumours of a Netflix series and even a female-led version. Original Blade actor Wesley Snipes even hinted at a return. In a new interview with Arrow to the Head, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has said it would “be cool” to have Blade in the McU, but there are no plans at the moment. “My tenure at Marvel started 17 years ago, and there were two things that sort of launched the modern era,” he said. “One was X-Men, which was the first thing that people said, “‘Oh, there’s life here.’ But a few years before that, there was Blade. A character nobody had heard of at all, had only appeared in a few issues of Tomb of Dracula or something, »

Outsider Pictures Handling Sales on Small is Biutiful Title ‘1,200 Souls’ (Exclusive)

27 June 2017 5:50 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paris — Paul Hudson’s L.A. based Outsider Pictures has boarded “1,200 Souls,” a fantasy thriller set in the high Pyrenees, and one of the highlights at the 10th Spain-Ile de France Small is Biutiful in Paris, a prestigious boutique Spain-France co-production forum which unspooled June 23.

Outsider Pictures is handling international sales rights on “1,200 Souls,” the latest movie from the Zaragoza-based producer-director tandem of Marta Cabrera and Pablo Aragues whose “Novatos,” also repped by Hudson, was a Netflix worldwide distribution pick-up.

In his first two features, Aragues tackled sects (“Vigilo el camino”) and hazing (“Novatos”). Backed by the Aragon Film Commission, “1,200 Souls” is set in a small town in the lap of the Pyrenees, to which a young woman, Carla, returns to scatter her mother’s ashes, only to be confronted by violence, deaths and the seemingly supernatural, such as spontaneous combustion.

‘Life’ 4K Blu-ray Review

25 June 2017 8:11 PM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

For Sony Pictures, the meaning of Life is determined by tenaciously throwing massive amounts of money at a B-movie horror flick script.

Even under the weight of its often illogical script, Life manages not to flatline in spite of a series of rather idiotic decisions made by supposedly intelligent people. I'm even curious to see where the story might go next; if Life ever did find a way again.

The term "life" refers to the historical discovery of an initially microscopic living organism brought back to the International Space Station (Iss) by a exploratory spacecraft sent to Mars. It's such a momentous occasion for mankind that grade school children give the organism a name: Calvin.

While the scientist charged with examining Calvin grows fond of his rapidly growing subject, other members of the six-person crew grow concerned. Before you know it Calvin is on the loose following the film's most gripping scene, »

New Han Solo director, Jurassic World 2 title revealed, Avengers: Infinity War set photo and more – Daily News Roundup

Go Direct A Star War

After the shock news that Phil Lord and Chris Miller had been fired from their positions on the Han Solo spin-off movie, it was revealed yesterday by Disney and Lucasfilm that Ron Howard would be taking over. Ron Howard has a lot of connections to George Lucas, appearing in the director’s American Graffiti and he was even approached with the chance to direct Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Read more here.

Just One More Thing

Looking ahead to Star Wars: Episode IX and it has been revealed that director Colin Trevorrow made a small request of Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson. “It wasn’t an adjustment, it was just ‘Could you shoot this one extra thing while you’re in this place on this day?’ And he did, which was great. But, y’know, it’s part of the collaborative process that exists – everyone is in communication.” Just what could that small thing be? Read more here.

Life Finds A Way

Speaking of Trevorrow, and the sequel to his 2015 dino smash Jurassic World was given an official title and poster yesterday – Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Pretty badass, eh? Check out the poster here.

Jumanji Connections

Keeping with the sequels theme now, and we should be expecting our first look at Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle any time soon. In an new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, star Jack Black has been talking about the film’s connections to the original. “We’re exploring this jungle and trying to conquer the game; it’s life or death, but while we’re there, we find clues left behind by [Robin Williams’ character Alan Parrish],” states Black. “He built up a full-blown jungle house, similar to a Swiss Family Robinson situation. It’s like he’s there helping us without actually being there… [In the original] you never got to see the inside world, but this one takes place primarily inside the jungle of Jumanji. That’s the coolest part of the film — we’re able to transport the audience to that secret and wondrous land, with the danger and the beauty.” Read more here.

Inside The Sanctum

Following the super-cool behind the scenes photo of Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange and Wong, former McU helmer Scott Derickson has shared another image from the Avengers: Infinity War set – this time from his old stomping grounds of the Sanctum Sanctorum. Check out the image here.

Transformers: The Last Knight isn’t looking to do so well at the box office this weekend, which won’t be a good sign for the Bumblebee spin-off. Although according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the solo film is going to be very different from what we’ve seen so far from the five Bay-directed movies. “The objective of that movie is to develop more time with less robots in a way, and to go back to 1985 and go back to sort of the original heritage if you would of the Transformers,” he said. “So it has a very distinct idea in it, and then whatever is gonna happen with the chemistry is what’s gonna happen, but it really is a young female lead opposite Bumblebee.” Read more here.

First Deadpool 2 Image Features A Very Familiar Location

19 June 2017 11:30 AM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Deadpool continues to be a fascinating superhero. Unique from the moment he first appeared in the page, the live-action marriage between the character and Ryan Reynolds has been so seamless that the two don't seem like a married couple at all, but, in fact, one single entity. Try reading Ryan Reynolds' tweets without picturing the Merc with the Mouth expressing the same darkly hilarious ideas. Good luck reading any one of the current running Deadpool titles from Marvel Comics without hearing the salty-sweet voice of Reynolds in your head. I give more credit to all the wonderful promotional material than the first film itself, for this symbiosis between actor and character. As marketing was unveiled for his first go-around, we had Deadpool action left and right, from Deadpool explaining testicular cancer to men to even appearing on his own Honest Trailer.

Lots of actors have stories of auditions that went badly, but “black-ish” star Anthony Anderson has a story that’s absolutely delicious. It’s hard to deny that Blake Lively lives a pretty charmed life. Aside from the international fame and string of hugely successful films, there’s also her enviable collection of red carpet couture gowns (and the stunning multi-million dollar mega carat jewels that go with them), not to mentioned her equally A-list husband Ryan Reynolds, and their two small daughters, all of which makes a serious case for women having it all. Diana Keaton was surrounded by her famous friends when she was honored with a Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in La on Thursday night. Aside from serenading Diane, on and off stage, the comedians put their bromance on full display when they locked lips at their seats. Perhaps they're trying to give Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield, who famously shared a smooch at the Golden Globes, a run for their money.
