Another poor movie from Cage! 3/10

Vengeance (2017)

Plot: Niagra Falls police detective and Iraq war veteran John Dromoor (Nicolas Cage) is flagged down by a 12 year old girl after she witnesses her mother, Teena (Anna Hutchison), being brutally attacked and left for dead by a group of local men. When the men are caught, their parents hire slick criminal defence attorney Jay Kirkpatrick, (Don Johnson) who puts the focus on Teena's credibility, based on her sobriety and promiscuity. Shockingly her assailants are exonerated and released, even though the daughter's testimony should have alone been enough for a certain conviction. In the aftermath of the verdict Dromoor grows increasingly close to the victim and her family, who he then discovers are being taunted and stalked by the freed men. The injustice becomes too much for him to take and fuelled by a sense of vengeance and his own personal demons, Dromoor sets out on a lone campaign to serve the justice the men deserve.

Review: This is another one of those poor movies coming from Nicolas Cage, who has taken on a lot of low budget movies, which are not doing his career any good. In this movie he plays a cop, who is seeking revenge for a woman who has been gang raped by a few of the locals. She tries to get justice in court but a high flying lawyer, played by Don Johnson, tears her apart in front of everyone in the courtroom. This is when the vigilante, John (Nicolas Cage), comes into play but the acting is quite poor, and the low budget doesn't help this deep story, which could have been much better. It really lacked emotion, but the victim, Teena (Anna Hutchison), and her little girl, wasn't bad. It was good to see Don Johnson back on the big screen but Nicolas Cage was acting the same as he does in a lot of his movies lately. In all, it's just another bad day at the office for Cage. Poor!

Round-Up: This movie was directed by Johnny Martin, 54, who also brought you Delirium, Case#13 and the TV movie Skeleton Man. Judging by his track record, he hasn't had that much experience behind the camera, and this poor movie won't boost his career but he did take on a delicate subject matter, which had a couple of touching scenes. As for Cage, he has really reached the point of no return, which is quite sad because he can act. As my expectations wasn't that high for this movie, I wasn't that disappointed but after spending so much time not typing reviews, this really wasn't a great start.

I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/thrillers, starring Nicolas Cage, Anna Hutchison. Talitha Bateman, Don Johnson and Joshua Mikel. 3/10
