Interesting movie with a good message
1 July 2017 | by See all my reviews

Badrinath Ki Dulhania is an interesting movie with a good core message, I was expecting this movie to be more like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, which is why I was ignoring this move the whole time, but somehow I watched it and it proved me wrong, it was actually good. The move takes place in small towns of India, Jhansi and Kota and is about how their youth feels about dowry system of conservative society and how stereotypical families differentiate between genders, value their sons over their daughters, although not everyone does that but harsh reality is that there is still vast number of people in the society who believe in their conservative traditions and values, so it's a good topic to bring up on big screen, some of the critics bashing movie as pro feminist move, but in my opinion the movie is more than just that, sure! Movie has covered most feminist topics but that was not the whole point of the movie, it encourages people to think beyond their horizons of their old traditions, it leaves an open platform for discussion, about how things should take place in order to evolve as civilized society in this modern era.

Director Shashank Khaitan made no mistake in casting game, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were the perfect fit, they had some interesting ongoing chemistry, but felt some lack of energy after interval, directions were also on the track but 130mins of run-time was too much for this movie specially when there are some unnecessary scenes, which almost killed the pace of the movie in second half, but thoroughly was good experience of drama, romance and comedy.
