Ringo and Freddie, two 16 year teenagers from upstate New York, hitchhike to Florida in 1966, the summer before the "Summer of Love," to see an old girlfriend. They don't make it but they battle with segregation, discrimination, injustice, almost get killed by rednecks, and learn about the LGBT underground community in Balitmore where Ringo falls in love with a lesbian. The commissioner scene took place in a thunderstorm. The director yelled out loud that if he could capture a lightning bolt in the scene he would get religious. Immediately after three lightning bolts were captured at once. He is now a catholic :) He also wished for a train to go by on the old trestle during the scene. One did. See more
