The Kentuckian (1955)
Looked and sounded more like earlier Walter Disney film
This film somehow gives me a lame feeling about the slow tempo of the screenplay, the soundtrack even a lit bit of annoying like all of the films in that era. Lancaster was so handsome in his prime. I like the dog, so smart and so cute. But I don't like the son character created in this film, more like and half-wit retard, just couldn't keep his mouth shut to get his father and the kind Hannah in trouble. The screenplay is too loose to keep the movie at a faster pace. Watching these kind of films with nowadays point of view, you really need patience to sit tight and watch along. All the bad guys in this film looked more like cartoon characters.
The Tribes of Palos Verdes (2017)
Cruel and Real
This is a very good movie, people and characters in it are all look real. The broken marriages to so many families nowadays in almost every country of the world not only affected so many husbands and wives but also seriously messed up their children. America's social infrastructure is like a broken and shattered glass, so many broken families, so many toilet relationships, so many twisted hardship that kids have to deal with their parents' bad marriage. America has become a weird family tree, its branches and leaves so complicated, either the wives carried their kids to new marriage, or the husbands brought their kids from his first, second or even 3rd marriage to newest wives, while their newer wives or husbands also got their own kids from their former marriages. More divorces simply complicated the family tree's growth and burdened it to unknown, unpredictable and unfathomable abyss. Kids growing up from such broken families many have twisted views almost to everything that ensured them to repeat the same or similar situations of their own marriages, their relationship to their opposite gender. They would become a bad copy of their parents and usually, the 2nd or the 3rd copy will be always worse than its 1st edition.
This is a very cruel but up close and personal film that I could hardly be able to watch to the end. I pity the three young children from two different broken families. The hardships they have to deal with 24/7 are so cruel and unbearable. I felt so sad while watching it and couldn't resist thinking of my elder son's broken marriage, and the grandson jammed in between his mother and father. The hardship my son has to deal with everyday is beyond every word could be described.
This film is just too cruel to watch.....
I Be Geniusen Stuff: Longmire S6 (2017)
Great Series even reaching Season 6
Great series; rarely see a series could be still right on the money after 5 seasons, season 6 as this Series Finale never disappointed me but pleased me a great deal since there're only couple of TV series really serious enough worth watching in 2017 besides "Longmire". A great adaptation from a same titled novel series with great screenplay writing, great dialog, great cast; a thriller also full of mysteries, actions, dramatic turns and twists and a long last subtle romance between Longmire and Victoria(Vic).
We've also seen a lot about the hatred of Indian tribe toward the white people, I don't consider it's a misunderstanding between the two races, and it'd never be water under the bridge. Longmire is one of the greatest characters created by a novelist, then vividly played and acted by a great actor who almost became an icon for what a good person and good cop should be look like. All the actors signed on to play in this series are really really good, they all look like real persons in the real world. People in this series didn't wear fashion costumes, didn't do disgusting make-up or $300 hair-do....everything looked just so normally ordinary.
This is one of the best Netflix productions.
American Assassin (2017)
Bad, really bad
First of all, absolutely wrong cast of Mitch Rapp, stupid casting of Irene Kennedy signed up with a bad actress who didn't have any acting talent. The Irene character in this stupid film was transformed into a black woman with unnatural and ugly black wig, the original Irene Kennedy should be older and a mother-like past middle aged white woman. Wrong casting jobs again and again ruined the images of great characters created in the popular novels, "Jack Reacher" by Lee Child ruined by Tom Cruise, "Harry Bosch" by Michael Connelly ridiculed by a horrible cast in a TV series. The white doctor in the novel, "Mountain between Us", was played by a black actor. Right now, Hollywood just wanted to do anything politically right, so they always stereotyped a black man or woman to be chief, asst. director, deputy chief, police chief or commissioner and so on, always put them in higher ranking positions. White people are trying so hard to redeem themselves by promoting the blacks no matter what, to show their open-minded fairness without any racial discrimination. So we have seen so many white characters now were often abused by the black ones. Many many TV commercials showing you white and black so happily married, best friends, best buddies in the class, best caring neighbors....white church-goers going to black believers' churches....It's just so hilariously ridiculous, because in reality, these scenes we saw so regularly often on the screen, in your neighborhood or in your schools are so rare.
When Mitch in this stupid film was tested by his instructor who showed him a video of his girl friend-fiancée was shot and killed on the beach, this film just deteriorated from bad to worse, man. How could it possible? Everybody was running for his life, there was still a camera stably focused on his love been killed? Such stupid scene could only appeared in bad movies, just like what I've seen in "Hickok 2017" couple of days ago, the preacher wrote a letter that never got the chance to mail to his brother before he was killed and burnt to death with his church was mysteriously and miraculously appeared later in the hands of a woman...
Jesus, the screenplay writer of "American Assassin" did it again! Now, it's video recording during a massacre on the beach.
If you say it's Bad, then you don't how really bad means, man
Gee, I saw four guys, four writers wrote this screenplay, at first I thought it would be good since there were four guys sat together to patch up all the illogical holes for each other. But unfortunately, they all turned out to be morons and certified by this lousy movie.
The reverend/preacher wrote a letter to his brother in the church, but before he got the chance to send it out, not by email or priority mail or express mail or registered mail, he was killed and then burnt to death with the church, including the desk he wrote that letter, which he put inside when a barmaid came to him seeking for help.
Funny thing is later when his veteran brother came to town seeking him out, all he could find was a burn-down church site. Miraculously, the woman who took him to his brother's burial site took out that letter his preacher brother never got the chance to mail to him. The whole church was gone, the preacher brother was burnt to death, might just some ashes left later for burial, everything was burnt and gone, yet the un-mailed letter miraculously survived.
Lousy movie with bad screenplay, bad directing, bad acting, bad....nothing is good. Don't even think about watching it, just don't bother, man.
YOU THINK I AM THAT STUPID LIKE YOU FOUR GUYS, THE DIRECTOR AND THE WHOLE PRODUCTION GROUP?!!! Jesus.....
La mort de Louis XIV (2016)
A King's Death
actually is no different from any common people, no matter how many subjects surrounded His Royal Highness's deathbed. You cursed someone you hated so much with harsh words like: "I wish you die alone and nobody will give a Fxxk!" Well, practically and realistically speaking, everybody indeed die alone; your parents, your wife, your husband, your kids, your friends won't join you and die with you, no matter how they love you or hate you; and these people aforementioned, would also die alone one by one. When a plane or car crashed, a ship sank, a building on fire and collapsed like the twin tower of World Trade Center, an earthquake cracked up the mountain slop and crashing down on a village on the foothill, a whole village wiped out instantly; people died in great number at the same time in a mass death toll, even so everybody still died alone, in group, large or small, but every one of them still died alone. After hundreds of people eating the same food on the hot-cold counter-top in a buffet restaurant, when they take dump at home or elsewhere afterward, the stinking smell would be in some degree almost the same, to some degree, nobody can be separated and distinguished differently, and you cannot claim that yours got some independent unique odor.
Dying is always a lonely process no matter what. And for this film, all you should do is to focus on the cinematography, the lighting, the make- up, the costumes and the score(soundtrack) and the acting of all the participating actors. "Eight Million Ways to Die in L.A." still meant that you are the only person to die there, and die alone.
24 Hours to Live (2017)
Terrible to sit through watching a very bad film
The screenplay sucks big time, the dialog fills contrite, the acting awkward, Ethan Hawk acted quite awkward from the very beginning like a B movie actor. The way he could use some device to cancel a passenger flight is even ridiculous. The guy could fly all over the world and landed himself to meet the Chinese woman was even more ridiculous. Then he suddenly became a pick-up artist to move in to her and successfully invited her to dinner. Jesus, what a charming man.
I guess this is another film invested by some Chinese rich guys, otherwise the screenplay and the director would not have turned out so bad and so lame. I couldn't hold my interest to keep watching this lousy film over twenty minutes since the plot, the scenarios, the dialog and acting just so badly mixed up into a stinking crap, qualified to directly release to B movie DVD rentals in supermarkets. For me, even paying a dollar for the rental is kinda expensive.
Even the "Global Warming" issue is true, but
this guy is just using this subject and topic to make himself richer and more famous. After his first film won him an Oscar, his bank account has increased beyond any average American could fathom. I think using this trendy topic to enrich himself and afford him and his wife, a two-member family, live in an over 10,000 sq.ft mansion, is just one of the evidences to expose him as a typical shameless opportunist among other similar smart entrepreneurs who could foresee and predict what's the next business opportunity to make more dineros for years to come.
I didn't see any new input in this so-called sequel, only found this guy appeared in a lot of paying shows to repeat, to reiterate what he had already talked, discussed and written, a more simple-minded bore-you-to-death well-known dried up crap, merely with more crafty film editing and subtle soundtrack. There's nothing new in this film, only showed us an older, fatter, more puffy and bloated white guy who obviously has been affected by the unhealthy global warming and climate change. The only way to avoid his further deterioration is to better stay indoor of his 10,000 plus sq.ft. mansion with 24/7 climate controls.
I've forced myself to sit through watching this deadbeat documentary and have found out nothing new at all. What a phony and a totally unnecessary pointless sequel only with his repetitive complaints of his unfair presidential election loss to that idiotic clown (by the way, similar presidential election outcome repeated in our latest president election; Democratic Party and most of the American voters never learned). If you are smart enough and not certified stupid like me, forget about this pointless film. Don't even bother to rent it in order not to add more dollars to this guy's bank account.
Xia dao lian meng (2017)
How could it be possible......?!
For a bunch of Chinese thieves going abroad to France did a heist? Are you serious? How the Chinese movie makers would have dreamed up with such stupid and pretentious scenarios? Again, I can not but have to point out that the Chinese people nowadays are just so obsessed to everything NOT Chinese but WESTERN COUNTRIES in the WESTERN WORLD. Since when the Chinese started to drink red wine or white wine as their daily common drinks instead of oolong or green tea? Since when your wedding ceremonies got to be held in a foreign country or on a popular foreign island and, well, your bride-to-be or wife-to-be would consider you a loser or don't-love-her-enough if you don't marry her in a western church in an E.U. country? Why your bride's wedding gown must be in white, why her garland in her hands must be red, yellow or pink roses, the music got to be that specific segment from a western opera? Why the Chinese honeymooners got to go abroad so the newly wedded couple would not feel ashamed to enjoy if their new marriages starting in their own country?
This pretentious film fell into the similar pretentiousness with no- limit budget, they moved their background localities scenes to France. Don't you guys know that a bunch of Chinese who would stand out like sore thumbs in Europe even they were just tourists albeit a bunch of Chinese YO-YOs committing a heist, a serious crime?
Since the budget was unlimited, so they signed up a bunch of the French actors playing detective or whoever they might have to be, making them chase after those Chinese who without any logistic difficulties, equipped with high tech devices, exotic cars and motorcycles....whatever they could throw into the scenes.
Based upon what I have mentioned above at the outset, Chinese thieves, like most of the Chinese who are getting married, are not interested in stealing from any Chinese city; they are not interested to rob a bank in China, or try to do a heist on their Chinese national museum, instead, they move abroad, to play cat-and-mouse game with the French cops. Yeah, right. The stupidity simply couldn't stop right here.
When the rich Chinese women started buying COACH purses, it soon became a national MUST-HAVE to most of the other Chinese women, maid servant, waitresses, street peddlers, teachers, cleaning women....every woman in China wanted to own a COACH purse or bag, and sooner than later, no rich Chinese woman would dare to shoulder a COACH bag around, they moved up to HERMES; then the COACH brand was totally ruined in China, even the women in lower class don't want it no more.
I have to warn the Chinese movie makers not to ridicule yourselves putting a bunch of the Chinese actors/characters to do anything in foreign countries, legal or illegal, romantic or whatever, just don't do it with a foreign background, because it'd just look false, phony and pretentious. "Let Caesar has what belongs to him and let the Romans have theirs", so better stay in China and likewise, do the crimes in China. The E.U. countries already got their own immigrants and refugees problems, they don't want a bunch of Chinese criminals to further mess up their infrastructure or their livelihood.
What happens in China, stay in China; better spending your easily earned Renminbi in China, making your movies in China; there's absolutely nothing wrong to be a Chinese or drinking tea instead of red wine. Homeless Americans all speaking American English, your kids don't have to register into the international schools in China to learn English.
Ray Donovan: Mister Lucky (2017)
This drama series has become more and more wild and crazy
It seems that the screenplay writers couldn't control the developments of this series scenarios and plots, so the storyline just got weird and weirder and spinning out of control. Lot of nudity and fornication scenes other than the brutal killings and murders. It's so weird to keep watching this series since SE01EP01, these characters indeed have been well developed yet not in a better way but worse. Everybody in this series suffered big loss and simply couldn't get out of the jam. The three generations of the Donovans are so pathetically hopeless, always in a huge mess. Sometimes it just gave me a over-the-top ridiculousness and highly impossible to be convinced that what these characters are facing on a day to day basis are nothing but an overly dramatized farce. It still hold your interest to watch episode after episode but more and more, you also need patience to sit tight for those overly twisted stories full of drugs, murders, killings, manipulations and whatever you might not guess they would be thrown into this series.
