All Time Top 250± Favorite Movies & Film Series (Chronological Listing of All Films Rated 9/10 & 10/10)

by LCW-Movies | created - 01 Feb 2011 | updated - 1 week ago | Public

Link to my focused companion list titled All Time Top 100 Favorite Movies & Film Series - which begins with my #1 all-time favorite film, & continues on to #100 (& a little beyond). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------[2] [3]<-------------- personal "shortcut" hyperlinks --------------->[1] [2] [3]-------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** WHAT IS MY "ALL TIME TOP 250± FAVORITE MOVIES & FILM SERIES" LIST? **

This "All Time Top 250± Favorite Movies & Film Series" list includes every title I have rated as either a 9 or a 10 out of a possible 10 (9/10 & 10/10). These films are listed here in chronological order of their release, beginning with a 1919 silent film, and ending with films released within the past year or so.

Over the past half century I have seen about ±3,900 theatrically released, non-documentary, feature length films. Of these, I have given a 9/10 or 10/10 rating to about 335 or so films, broken down as follows: • ±3.5% = 10/10 rating • ±5.5% = 9/10 rating ============================= • ±9.0% rated 9/10 or 10/10 (all of these films are included in this list)

Most of the ±3,900 films are sound pictures in english, but they also include the following: • ±225 or so (±6.2%) = silent movies (only a few are included in this list) • ±350 or so (±8.5%) = foreign language films (only a few are included in this list)

When I find it applicable, I will give a rating to an entire film series, and the same rating to each film comprising the film series (i.e. 'The Godfather trilogy, 'Harry Potter' film series, 'Jason Bourne' film series, 'Up Documentary' film series). When applicable films are grouped together into a film series, the number of films/film series included in this list is approximately 250. Based on my own preferences, some film series are broken up to show each title individually within the list (i.e. Godfather, Three Colors trilogy) - with all films in the series listed in a note for each individual film. Otherwise, film series are designated with only a single list entry corresponding (usually) to the first film of the series - with all of the additional films listed within a note for that first movie (i.e. 'Beach Party' film series, 'Harry Potter' film series).

With the exception of a few titles addressed below, all titles within this list are theatrically released, feature length narrative films. However, the following TV Movies, TV Mini-Series, and Documentaries are films of such a high caliber and/or films I have fallen in love with - criteria which compel me to include them in this list because it doesn't feel right to exclude them on a technicality: ------------------------------------------------------------------- • Mandela and de Klerk (1997 TV Movie) ------------------------------------------------------------------- • Rich Man, Poor Man (1976 TV Mini-Series) • Roots (1977 TV Mini-Series) • Dekalog (1989 TV Mini-Series) • From the Earth to the Moon (1998 TV Mini-Series) • John Adams (2008 TV Mini-Series) ------------------------------------------------------------------- • The Up Series (1964-present Documentaries) • A Brief History of Time (1991 Documentary) • What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? (2004 Documentary) • Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010 Documentary) • To Be Takei (2014 Documentary) • Life Itself (2014 Documentary) ------------------------------------------------------------------- It is important to note that my ratings are based on how much I 'love' the movie & thus do not necessarily include films which I might consider the 'greatest' movies or the 'best' movies I have seen because I don't necessarily want to see something like 'Schindler's List' over & over again. This also means there are numerous guilty pleasures listed which I unapologetically admit to loving and watching repeatedly. An explanation of how I rate movies, & why I group films into film series, is provided within a lengthy footnote at the end of this list.

Current "Honorable Mention" 8/10 titles which are on the verge of possibly being promoted to a 9/10 and added to this list, and current 9/10 titles on the verge of possibly being demoted to an 8/10 and dropped from the list, are included in a footnote at the end of this list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ At the very end of this list - after the last film listed at the bottom of page 3 - are the following write ups: • MY LIFE AS A CINEPHILEGREAT MOVIE LISTS I HAVE COMPLETED / AM WORKING ONHOW I RATE MOVIES - NOTES, CRITERIA & STATISTICS ...(a) the criteria I use to rate movies ...(b) an explanation of why I group films into film series ...(c) bell curve graphical distribution of my cumulative ratings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CURRENT DISTRIBUTION OVER 3 PAGES #001-100 = 1919-1988 (69 years) #101-200 = 1988-2003 (15 years) #201-291 = 2003-2019 (16 years) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
