Solid, fast paced B-thriller with winking sense of humor, acting ridiculously good. Keeps you guessing, doesn't insult your intelligence.

satirical psychological horror Christian Bale+ (Patrick Bateman) Justin Theroux+ (Timothy hooked), Josh Lucas* (Craig), Reese Witherspoon+ (fiancé), Jared Leto* (Paul Allen main victim- top 500)

  • Me: Re-watched 2019. Infinitely quotable, nihilistic yuppie compulsively murders & obsesses on returning videotapes & obtaining dinner reservations. Flaunting your business card around this guy is Russian roulette. Bale is BRILLIANT, the murder scene dressed in a clear plastic raincoat, his awkward silly little dance, accompanied by a dissertation of "Hip to Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News is cinematic magic.”
  • NY Times "a mean and lean horror comedy classic"

Me: Very well done, the tension palatable, the acting superb. Honestly couldn't wait for it to end though, extremely graphic & violent, so difficult to watch..."

It's about the moment, in the middle of a firefight, where nothing matters but the people next to you. Scott captures the incredibly complex shootouts, geography, tactics & large ensemble cast with a deftness that can only be admired, and somehow makes the chaotic Black Hawk Down seem easy to follow. It's not the most insightful war movie ever made, but it's one of the most thrilling.

Espionage, Drama, Suspense ensemble cast Leonardo DiCaprio+ (CIA field) Russell Crowe+ (Hoffman CIA Chief) Mark Strong+ (Hani head Jordanian Intelligence) Oscar Isaac+ (Bassam small part) Director: Ridley Scott+ great (Alien, Gladiator)

Me: The acting by the 3 leads earned this 9 stars. Mark Strong the standout "a marvel of exotic suavity & cool insinuation". Crowe gained 50 pounds for his part the remorselessly logical CIA operative. DiCaprio solid as always totally believable as the CIA on the ground. Great clashing dynamics between DiCaprio & Crowe. Not tons of action, just enough – reminded me of Bond films. Nice love interest, realistic portrayal of a Muslim woman's difficulties in dating a Westerner. Great film"

Canadian / Action / Crime / Comedy Colm Feore, Patrick Huard

ME: "Your off the suit-case!" There were a few good lines, such a great premise, started out well then went downhill about 1/2 way through. Soundtrack absolutely sucked. There's a sequel

2 Canadian cops from Ontario & Quebec try to put aside their differences & work together to stop a serial killer.Worth seeing for the delightful banter between Feore & Bouchard. Manages to work well as both light entertainment & running commentary on the culture clash between the English & French Canadas. Great cast & a good story.

TRUE: British historical Biography, Drama, blockbuster Cate Blanchett+ (Q Elizabeth) Clive Owen+ (Sir Walter Raleigh) Laurence Fox (Sir Christopher Hatton) Rhys Ifans* (Robert Reston cute)

  • ME: Worth watching alone for Blanchett's superb performance & the costumes / sets. Memorable scene, Blanchett looking like Joan of Arc rallying the troups, Owen's tales of loving / fearing the seas, and his 1st sighting of America. Me: I've been spoiled by superhero film's like "Guardian's Of The Galaxy" & "Hancock" - I was looking for a similar humorous touch. This is worth watching, Perlman was very good & I discovered Rupert Evans in it - really enjoyed his nice guy roll. Overall just fell short of expectations.

Ron Perlman is perfect as the cigar-puffing, wisecracking, kitten-loving demon who covertly battles supernatural monsters. A fun watch mainly because of him. The action is well done and the story is great, but he makes the character (a demon raised by "the good guys") just amazingly human, with his wry sense of humor.

Even when Bateman is scolding he's gentle: "Did you shove a man's head up another man's ass? Were going to circle back to that..." ________________________________________ Entertaining, a unique take on the superhero thing The dynamic between sullen Smith & sincere Bateman may be the best thing in this Peter Berg's film, but it's a tough call because the whole popcorn fest is flat-out fantastic.

Director: Edgar Wright | Stars: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy

Votes: 424,406 | Gross: $23.64M

Black Comedy/ buddy-cop parody Simon Pegg * (Sgt Nick Angel) Nick Frost * (Chubby Constable) Rory McCann* (Mike Lurch)

Me: 2nd ½ turned it around, great adrenaline rush action ending. Fun seeing Rory McCann (The Hound from Game of Thrones) Very British humour, tons of fun.”

  • A mixture of Bond Movie & slapstick Satirizes US action films, loved reference to the scene in Point Break where Keanu Reeves fires his gun into the sky in anger. The irony is that it takes place in the serenely beautiful English countryside. Delves deeply into the conscious social mannerisms of the English, and parodies the timid insular English village life.
  • Nick Frost is a great second banana, the punchline to Pegg's straight line, funny in a direct, adolescent way.
  • Simon Pegg is a work of comic genius, a man of invincible confidence & drive, a workaholic, a zealot & an action hero stereotype.
  • Also a high paced action film
  • If you liked the likes of Shaun of the Dead, you'll love this, same team.
PLOT: A British super-cop is sent to a sleepy town with the lowest crime rate in the country. So why, he wonders, are there so many dead bodies.

Marvel Superhero's Eric Bana+ (The Hulk) Sam Elliott* (Ross) Nick Nolte* (dad) Josh Lucas* (Talbot cute) Director: Ang Lee Me: watched right before "The Incredible Hulk".to compare. Decent, could have used some levity, Bana was good, Nolte who I normally like overacted, annoying. Worth watching for the fantastic desert scene where the Hulk is being attacked.

  • The best comic book adaptation I've seen so far with an excellent cast and top notch special effects...
Don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

Hitman - Assassin, Film Noir, Revenge, Black-comedy

Josh Hartnett+(Slevin), Bruce Willis +, Lucy Liu+, Stanley Tucci, Morgan Freeman +, Ben Kingsley.

ME: "Kansas City Shuffel" says it all, fair warning, the plot IS convoluted, rewind is your friend, it's worth it. I figured it out which is 1/2 the fun. Discovered Josh Hartnett in this, great haircut.

Set in NY plot focuses on the paths of Slevin Kelevra (Hartnett) & Lindsey (Liu). Two feuding crime lords known as The Boss (Freeman) & The Rabbi (Kingsley) & a mysterious hit-man known as Mr. Goodkat (Willis).

Witty, fast fasted, stylishly interesting. RT Trying too hard to be clever in a Pulp Fiction kind of way, succumbs to a convoluted plot.
