Realistic 12th Doctor Candidates

It's Peter Capaldi ladies and gentlemen!

Some people in the comment section point out that the Doctor can be anyone and the also rightfully point out that this list is as ethnically and sexual diverse as a Slayer concert (sorry female Slayer fans). And there right, completely right.

However, this being a realistic list of doctor candidates, it is safe to say it would be a enormous gamble for the BBC to make the Doctor woman. A gamble they normally would not take with a succesfull show like this. It is a shame, but that's how this society works unfortunately. Changing the Doctors race is somewhat more likely. However the black British who have the capacity to play the Doctor are either to famous (Harewood, Elba, Oyelowo and especially Ejiofor) or literally to big (imagine Anozie standing next to Clara).

1. Peter Capaldi

Actor | Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi was born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Nancy (Soutar) and Gerald John Capaldi. His parents owned an ice cream business. He is of Italian (from his paternal grandfather), Scottish, and Irish descent. Capaldi attended drama classes and was accepted into the Glasgow School of Art. After ...

How the f could I have forgotten him. Brilliant actor, and I'm not just talking about his brilliant performance as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It and In The Loop (for which he deserved an oscar nomination). Local Hero, Skins, Torchwood. Althouh he mostly plays villains, he is perfect as the Doctor. He has a big emotional range, a very unsettling sense of humour (even without the cursewords), can be frightning, has a crazy stare and can deliver a darker and more serious doctor than his predecessors. After two more likeable doctors, the serie will go old-skool with a more mature and (i think) darker doctor. Also, kudos for the BBC ffor taking this bet. It's safe to say Capaldi will deliver as the Doctor, but it would have been far easier for the DWteam to pick a younger and more dynamic Doctor to hold on to the new found audience.

2. Robert Carlyle

Actor | The Full Monty

Robert Carlyle was born in Maryhill, Glasgow, Scotland, to Elizabeth, a bus company employee, and Joseph Carlyle, a painter and decorator. He was raised by his father after his mother left him when he was four. At the age of 21, after reading Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," he enrolled in acting ...

Why: Is a great and acclaimed actor (just watch Trainspotting), able to play strange and otherworldly characters (apparently brilliant in Once upon A Time, also play a eccentric yet convincing Hitler), has been mentioned as a candidate before

Why Not: Maybe to famous, i think he still committed to 'Once Upon A Time'

VERDICT: It's a bit of a stretch to call Carlyle old, but he would certainly contrast with the very young Smith. Would be nice

3. Gregg Chillin

Actor | A Discovery of Witches

Gregg Chillin was born in 1988 in the UK as Gregg Chilingirian. He is an actor and writer, known for A Discovery of Witches (2018), Being Human (2008) and A Good Year (2006).

Why: Has a very eccentric face and face expression (loving the eyes, just google him), would be the first doctor able to pull of a beard, shines as Zoroaster in Da Vinci's demons, A non-caucasian doctor would be a nice and the fact nobody knows what ethnicity he is makes him even cooler, wears a bow-tie on his IMDB profile picture, hasn't really made a name as of yet

Why Not: A non white doctor is a pretty big revolution, he's even younger than Matt Smith at the time of his debut, has mostly played, attached to Da Vinci's Demons

VERDICT: It would be a very big gamble, but i think Chillin would be able to pull it off.

4. Paul Kaye

Actor | Game of Thrones

Why: Very very Funny, great actor, a bit older than Matt smith, has a lot of experience playing hedonic and somewhat strange characters, has an instant likability and great smile, GINGER,

Why Not: Perhaps a bit to rough and rock and roll for Doctor Who, maybe still attached to Game of Thrones, doens't have the charm of Tennant or Smith

VERDICT: Paul Kaye would be the funniest doctor since ever, but I think he's to punky and rough to appeal to the mass audience (which is a shame)

5. Matthew Goode

Actor | Stoker

Matthew William Goode (born 3 April 1978) is an English actor. His films include Chasing Liberty (2004), Match Point (2005), Imagine Me and You (2006), Brideshead Revisited (2008), Watchmen (2009), A Single Man (2009), Leap Year (2010), Stoker (2013) and The Imitation Game (2014). Goode also ...

Why: Charming as hell, suave, his eyes are brilliant, has experience in action movies, otherwordly, the deep voice, seasoned actor both in Hollywood and London

Why Not: Perhaps to famous, but really why not?

VERDICT: I would love to see him play The Doctor, the best candidate on this list as of yet

Aneurin Barnard was born on May 8, 1987 in Ogwr, Mid Glamorgan, Wales. He is an actor, known for Dunkirk (2017), The Goldfinch (2019) and Cilla (2014).

WHY: Nobody knows him outside the actors world but this kid's a genius, otherworldy, unoccupied at the moment, Being a Welshman he would finally legitimize the fact Doctor Who is produced by BBC Wales.

WHY NOT: Too young perhaps, not ginger

VERDICT: A very peculiar option, but I do think he's way to young.
