My All Time Favorite Action Films

by diego_cuevs21 | created - 20 Jan 2013 | updated - 1 month ago | Public

Out of all the ideas, a bad action film can go a long way of being something fun. There are some action films that become some better than others but the reason why action films become more entertaining and much more enjoyable ways to view it by video games, t.v. shows, and films. To me action films are much more fun than any other genres out there now because when you watch a Michael Bay film all you go to watch is the action not the bad comedy but I really love good bad and very mediocre action films and it is fantastic. The list is based on what I think are the best and the top ten are my top ten. Along with the rest it is in order.

1. The Raid 2 (2014)

R | 150 min | Action, Crime, Thriller

71 Metascore

Only a short time after the first raid, Rama goes undercover with the thugs of Jakarta and plans to bring down the syndicate and uncover the corruption within his police force.

Director: Gareth Evans | Stars: Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara

Votes: 106,146 | Gross: $2.63M

I have to say that I didn't grow up with Jackie Chan, or Stallone, or any of those action stars in the 70, 80, and 90 so when I look back at those movies I can say they can't even hold a candle to what The Raid brought to the table. Because I can't think of any other action movie where the excitement from a fight leaves a screen and gives you some adrenaline throughout the whole fight. You will never get tired of the action because the movie keeps pumping a new style of it to ensure that this is something that is a game changer. And it has. This is my favorite and in my opinion the best action film ever made. Now yes it does have to do with my age and I didn't grow up with those other action films. Gareth Evans is big part in that by bringing his style in how we should see fight scenes and even how to build the action scenes that you will never get tired of watching the fights. That is why this film is at the top of the pyramid of how to make an action film.

2. Die Hard (1988)

R | 132 min | Action, Thriller

72 Metascore

Director: John McTiernan | Stars: Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Bonnie Bedelia, Reginald VelJohnson

Votes: 729,992 | Gross: $83.01M

To this day many people including myself will look at Die Hard as a real action film that inspired a crazy amount of other modern like action films today. And some will also say that it is just a regular two hour action flick. So what if nothing passes the surface at least you have a really good central performance from the best action actor living today and have still have some logic behind it. As much as it is unrealistic at times the film never felt boring. And that is what makes Die Hard a classic. But some want more and I can't blame them but a film like this deserves to be awesome and it is.

3. The Raid: Redemption (2011)

R | 101 min | Action, Thriller

Votes: 178,384 | Gross: $4.11M

Speaking of Die Hard rip offs gone right well here it is. Sure nothing is beyond the surface and it will never mean anything beyond real life. But to me I really have to ask myself two simple questions to ask heading into an action film: is it high adrenaline, where you can go out yourself and beat the living crap out of someone while intense music is playing? And is it interesting enough to care for at least one character? Well by the spot you can the answer and one final demand do not look away from this blistering realistic bad ass action film you will ever see in your whole entire life.

Votes: 583,308 | Gross: $227.47M

Realistic gets used not that much lately when action films come to play. But thanks to Damon and the incredible Greengrass shaky cam it brings all the enjoyment to watch. A real film that a little bit more than kick to its flare. Scene after scene tense movement after perfection a film that does not give up and neither should you. Great film overall and no one can put a smile on face quite like Damon.

7. District 9 (2009)

Director: Neill Blomkamp | Stars: Sharlto Copley, David James, Jason Cope, Nathalie Boltt

Votes: 610,056 | Gross: $115.65M

Science fiction and action go swell together. So that is why District 9 is that film to fit that expectation of what it takes for a director like Neill Blomkamp to keep everything as exciting a film like this can really be. And never before in my life have I seen such great action put to use quite like District 9 when it first came out. It is more than a knockout it is an electric shock that will get your blood racing to see how much a film like this can go from 0 to 100 in one take.

Votes: 44,140

Why are John Woo films so great? Well because the lengths he goes for a good action scene. The long takes the blood splatters head shots blood galore. And really an all out extreme balls to the wall film where it never leaves you it shakes you to action movie heaven.

9. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Votes: 795,645 | Gross: $154.06M

The years have been kind to us and once in a while we get a film that elevates it self to a new level. And Fury Road is one of those movies that action movies that come out after this will not even come close to the achievements that this film has made. So you can't even compare this film to any other I do t even think it is on the same playing field as the other Mad Mad films that came before it. This movie is the pure definition of doing an action movie that with the right amount of action and story enough to keep it going that you will never feel bored.

Votes: 30,468 | Gross: $6.06M

Way far from anyone to remember how great and spot on this modern update of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (yes I am sticking to that) is to with great dark humor brutal and rememable action scenes with more than just a replay value. It is far from dull. And having it in my collection makes the Friday nights fun filled from start to finish.

Votes: 296,141 | Gross: $134.07M

The Rock is an absolute action blast of Michael Bay heaven that matches every humor, each line to "winners go home and *beep* the prom queen" to my favorite ROCKET MAN. holy crap was N.C. Was over the top fun Ed Harris is great as a villain with a heart at the end, and of course Sean mother Fu$king Connery is the Shizzz. Love every minute of it. Totally one of my favs.

Brutal, intense, and action packed. With a great story, believable characters and the most like able protagonist you will ever see. That is why Matt Damon is the man and never before been more best cast and better. That is why to me Elysium is a better film and action film than District 9.

Director: Quentin Tarantino | Stars: Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen

Votes: 923,832 | Gross: $70.10M

Could just be not only one of the greatest action film, and some do say it is the best revenge flick ever made. It's great fun filled with lines for actors who can easily tell a story that springs a great and over the top fight scenes. That created the way some PG-13 action films just can't match any of the bloody realism that only a director like Q.T. And man does he raise the bar only his vision created action film of the decade.

15. Minority Report (2002)

Science fiction action films are great because they range from the usual gun to gun shoot outs, and hand to hand combat sequences. And Minority Report delivers that. With a scene involving Tom call him when the world ends Cruise gets a 360 ray type gun that blasts his enemies and jumps to building car to building car it is more than fun. It is a ride that shouldn't be missed.

Director: Jeong-beom Lee | Stars: Won Bin, Sae-ron Kim, Tae-hoon Kim, Hee-won Kim

Votes: 56,261 | Gross: $0.01M

Is it better than Taken, to be honest yes it is better than Taken. But it is longer, more violent, more extreme, and not so much of a world wide story like Taken being in Europe. It is however the same one man army we use to see and no matter what is on screen we love it. And this is no exception until that gripping and most of all touching ending. That makes this a fun as can be action film with just the right amount of blood and violence to be an action film people should see.

Harvey Keitel is fantastic. Juliette Lewis hotter than ever. Quentin Tarantino uh... at least he can hold a gun. But everyone knows it that it is Mr. Cool himself George Clooney. Owning scene a after scene becoming one of the greatest antiheroes in cinema ever. Love the vampire aspect don't care what people say it is a bloody riot no matter what. And still to this day it is Robert Rodriguez best film to date.

We continue with pure evidence that science fiction action upholds more than the usual straight forward action flicks, with it being so crazy and over the top insanity action that is happening on screen. Thanks to Bale. Gosh dang it is intense with it being smart fast paced and the best gosh dang action sequences that is inventive to the science fiction genre as many reviews will back me up and many critics won't.
